  • Congrats on being back in the game! I know you didn't let it slow you down too, too much, but that's good to hear there soon won't be any limitations.
  • Did around 70 minutes of cardio yesterday -- mostly treadmill @ an incline, but then some Assault Bike to end. Today was lifting in the AM followed by a 30 minute row for distance, restricted to 20 SPM (strokes per minute). My one at the beginning of the month was like 6500 meters. This was over 6600, so nice improvement…
  • I started lifting at around 45ish. IMHO, too many make weight lifting too complex. Just start out really slow, get someone to help you with form, even if it's just a couple of trainer sessions. I'm 58 now and I've moved from lifting 3X a week down to 2X per week, but I do a pretty rigorous workout when I lift (and do a lot…
  • Welcome back to the dark side! I know you did it in your youth a lot. Sometimes, it's way different when you have to versus when you have a choice and enjoy it. Today it was like 32 outside in Tucson (we had two inches of snow on the ground yesterday!). So just did a simple interval set -- 5 minutes as hard as…
  • Did lifting this AM and then did an interval workout at lunch (inside). 5 minutes, as hard as sustainable, with one minute recoveries (five repetitions).
  • Did 2.5 mile treadmill walk yesterday at 15% incline. Then the wife wanted to go for a walk on the local bike trail. Only did a mile or so more.
  • Was slated to do a hard row today, but it was wind gusting to like 40 MPH outside, though the temps were perfect. Just changed it and did a simpler 5 minute/1 minute recover X 6 reps. Started on the treadmill (2 intervals), then the LateralX (2 intervals), ending on the Assault Bike. Enjoyed it, as much as you can enjoy a…
  • I've been doing a lot of the same as you. One pleasant surprise, at least for me with my bum right knee, is that walking down my flight of stairs in the AM is getting easier. I have no issues walking up stairs, but walking down in the AM (at least when I first wake up) is super challenging for me. I believe all the…
  • Easier hour of cardio. Treadmill (15% incline, worked up to around 2.6 MPH) and then 30 minutes Assault Bike. All from around 60% to 70% max HR. Never really felt like I was pushing it.
  • One hour of easier cardio. Half on the treadmill and the other half on the LateralX.
  • Yesterday (Sunday) was 70 minutes of easy steady state cardio. Today was an AM lift during work breaks and I did my monthly rowing challenge at lunch. It was row 3 minutes, one recovery, 2:30, one recovery, repeat (taking off 30 seconds each interval) down to 1 minute. Ended up at exactly 2500 meters/2:00 pace.
  • Just around 55 minutes of easy cardio. 30 on the treadmill and 25 on the LateralX. Nothing hard.
  • That's been one of my favorite cardio workouts lately -- walking on the treadmill @ an incline. I can't run anymore, but I've been enjoying it. I'm fortunate to have accumulated a lot of different cardio equipment. I bought the treadmill for my wife and daughter, but have been using it a lot lately. I did 30 minutes on the…
  • @Djproulx - I'm sorry to hear this. I hope they can get you straightened back out quickly! Did supersets this AM and then a harder interval row at lunch (on the deck, finally had some decent weather, not too cold or rainy!). Did 4 X 2K with 3 minute recoveries. Averaged around 2:13, so slowly getting some of the lost…
  • You will adjust. If you don't, within around two months, something is off. My wife reacted to the chemicals in the pool from water aerobics and got really sick (public indoor pools have, typically, around fifty gallons in chemicals similar to Agent Orange. It's toxic stuff). Some people don't react to it. My wife was…
  • Had my "hard interval" day scheduled yesterday and have been feeling a bit draggy. Wanted to do something hard but not brutal. It was cold outside (low 40s), so I decided not to row on the deck and do it all inside instead. Did 8 minute intervals w/ one recovery. I'm trying to get more comfortable doing longer endurance…
  • Easy hour of cardio today on the treadmill, elliptical and Assault Bike. Nothing strenuous.
  • I hope they get it worked out for you soon, Ann! I guess, on the bright side, it's Winter and you can't be out on the water anyway right now! Same for you, @Djproulx! At least you both are able to do something. Inspirational that you two adapt and move on. I had to do that with running to rowing. I've had to adapt this…
  • Just a couple of quick updates -- Sunday was a long, slow cardio day. Working back up to 90 minutes on Sunday. Did around 75 yesterday. Today was lifting (supersets) in the AM, then a hard interval row. At least that was the original plan. It was like high 20s/low 30s today outside in Tucson. I did one set of 2K on the…
  • Did a harder rowing interval today at lunch on the deck. 4 X 2K with 3 minute recoveries. HRM was wonky again, saying my HR was shooting up to 210 (it wasn't). Not a great time average, around 2:16 pace, but just happy I finished it. Tonight is lifting at the gym.
  • Therabrand is the brand. Flexbar is what you want. If you to to Amazon and look up Tennis Elbow and Flexbar, you'll find them. And also check out YouTube videos as well. I keep a "medium" Flexbar on my desk during the day. This is just one of many, many videos on it. At around 1:50, he shows the same Therabar I have and…
  • I reread your comments above. Having a hormone panel by a Functional doc would be, I think, very helpful for you. What I learned when my wife had Fibromyalgia is that most Functional docs look to see if your Cortisol levels in the AM are in the basement. I expected hers to be elevated. It wasn't. It was so low it wasn't…
  • I workout six days a week (seven if you count walking my dogs and walking another 2 to 3 miles on Saturday). I also got a RSV, the flu and a stomach virus. Not the sickest I've been in a decade (like you), but it was brutal. My wife also got 3 things this Winter, a lot of people have! When I workout too hard, I tend to get…
  • @nossmf -- I'd still look into that Theraband Flexbar. With regular use, they will put that elbow pain in check. My elbow was killing me last golf season and using these things like four or five times a day had me out of pain in no time. Tons of YouTube videos on them. It's not a brace, it's a way you can do home PT and…
  • Today was lift in the AM (supersets) and then a hard row at lunch, except it was nasty today outside, so instead of the row, I did 12 X 4 minute intervals, one minute recovery -- first six on the LateralX and last 6 on the Assault Bike. To make it more tolerable, I play a HR game with it -- trying to match or increase my…
  • If you have a Play It Again Sports in your area, I'd check that out too. They also always seem to carry high quality new equipment at affordable prices.
  • Did a 4 X 1K yesterday on the rowing machine. I had to do a Timed Test on one this month, so I made the first one my timed test and went nearly all out. Not fast, barely under 4 minutes (low 3:50s), but that's done for the month! The next 3 would have been impossible for me, so I did them unstrapped @20 SPM. Jumped up to…
  • Likely because my weird golf swing, I get that bad during golf season. There are these rubber stick things that work fantastic for reducing pain. You twist them and they work the nerves/muscles leading to your forearm and it really helps your elbow pain. It's called a Theraband Flex Bar. All kinds of videos on it on…
  • An hour of easier cardio today on treadmill and elliptical, all between 60% and 65% max, so just hard enough to feel and easy enough to recover from yesterday.
  • Have to do a 10K rowing machine timed piece for my indoor rowing club this month. I can't even tell you the last time I've done a 10K between two viral infections and a bad trigger finger, so I was dreading this. Finished one yesterday, really slow for me (2:20 pace), but HR average was 80% max and hit 90% plus for the…
