  • Easier day today as I finished up the rock wall/garden. Wasn't too bad. Got out early, zero digging (all the plants are planted). Just positioning rocks for around 90 minutes.
  • LOL, short game is everything in golf!! But at least it's more enjoyable if you're also not looking constantly for balls in among the cactus, sticker bushes and rattlers!
  • Only thing I've done in the last couple of days is go to the chiropractor a couple times for the neck pain and finally felt good enough to golf last night. With a cart, 9 holes isn't a ton of walking, but maybe a couple of miles or so. Was hitting it fairly well on my drives, so all the rowing/lifting is helping something.…
  • I actually walked away without a scratch and so did he. He hit my back right quarter panel. I was going to Law School the next month and planning to drive that car to Oregon from Ohio. I was young and naive and the insurer said they wouldn't fix the car until I signed a waiver since I wasn't showing any signs of injury. I…
  • Did 6K on the rower and then 25 more on the LateralX yesterday. Neck was starting to hurt in the AM. By last night, it was killing me. This tends to happen from time to time. I got hit in an auto accident like 35 years ago. T-Boned going 60 MPH. Ironically, had stayed the night over at a buddies house after we drank too…
  • With yesterday being Mother's Day, my wife invited company (some good friends) and I skipped the normal cardio and worked on our rock wall garden again for around 2 1/2 hours. With making dinner -- I'm the cook at home -- and having to help clean the house, that's all I did. It was a pretty solid workout but I was on my…
  • Don't ever worry about that. If you go back through the thread, most of us have shared our stories. I literally couldn't walk for nearly two years and started back with just a few hundred meter walks. Or a few revolutions on a Stationary Bike. After like 2 or 3 years of rehab (for my knee), I got to where I could jog --…
  • Ha, I had a very similar workout today. 10 X 100m on the rower w/ one minute rest (just much longer recovery!). It was my Indoor Rowing club's CTC (cross team challenge). Only in name -- yours was much harder! Kind of a fun one -- not too taxing or brutal. Just more of a measure of strength. I started too slow (1:40 on…
  • @Djproulx -- those are great tricks and good advice! Today's cardio was ridiculously easy. Just 30 minutes on the LateralX and then 30 more on the Assault Bike. Only broke out of warmup HR a few times (like above 117 for me). Wanted to have an easy day for golf tonight so I'm not too exhausted and I have a hard day…
  • Back around 10 years ago, not too long after I originally lost the weight, I wanted to get more into swimming. I never could get the breathing timing down -- but with that said, getting the breathing calm is what helps you understand your form better. I cheated and used those Finis swim snorkels. Helps you to concentrate…
  • Just a nice and easy 6K on the rower and then 20 more minutes on the LateralX (lateral elliptical). Total of around 55 total minutes. Wanted to keep it all below 70% of max but got to 72% on the rower. Not too bad though, all felt easy. Avg HR was 63% of max, right around where I like to be on easier days.
  • Was a bit sore still today from doing the garden but found out this month's indoor rowing club event is a Half Marathon on the rower. I've only done two of them in the past, so I better be getting in some longer, harder sessions. No real plan for any good time, just finish it. My best HM is like a 2:19 pace. I won't come…
  • @AnnPT77 -- You have to be close now with OTW rowing! Hang in there another few weeks! I'm like that with my offseason Golf League now. Look forward to it all year. I know that's an important part of your social circle.
  • Did just an easy 6K today. Only thing really sore from yesterday's rock garden work was my hammies for some reason. I assume all the lifting/moving rocks and pick ax work. Finished the 6K with 20 minutes on the LateralX. All super easy stuff. Might work on the garden tonight. Just have to strategically place all of the…
  • Yardwork day for me. I typically row for an hour on Sunday (and lift) but we have an area of the backyard that was still a bit of an eyesore. When I had the landscapers quote the rest of the work, they said basically it was too labor intensive to be cost efficient. We have lot that's around 3 to 4 feet below grade from our…
  • Rerowed my CTC (cross team challenge) row for my online indoor rowing club again -- same row I failed miserably on last week. Finished it, not a great time -- absolutely died on the last two rounds. It was a pyramid rate row. Row 3 minutes times 5 with one minute rest. First one 27 SPM (strokes per minute), then 30, then…
  • No, especially based on last night. I just don't want to chase balls! Had some great shots and a few good drives, but couldn't put anything together -- really expected, though, to be honest without practice for seven months! It's just golf is a hell of a lot more fun when you're not constantly in the cactus. Too be honest,…
  • Did an 8K row at lunch. Nice and easy stuff. 2:26ish pace. HR all under 75% max. Golf this evening. First night of golf. Went for a swing evaluation on Sunday. Pro played college with Phil Mickelson. He said that I'm scared of my driver (he's right), I'm ridiculously strong for my age (my Iron MPH head speed was over 100…
  • Today was a 6K row, same DF as the other day and 10 degrees hotter. Avg. HR was 134. The other day it didn't get under 150, so way different. Did it at a 2:28.4 pace and capped it at 70% max, mostly under 65% max. Finished with 20 easy minutes on the LateralX -- all super easy there.
  • It was fairly hot Ann for this time of year, but not for Tucson. When I sat down, my HR was already in the 90s, which is really odd. It's usually in the 60s when I sit down. I just initially wrote it off to the HRM not catching the beat correctly, but the more I got into the row, all things were off. Heat will usually…
  • Did 55 really super easy minutes on the Assault Bike today. No HR issues -- everything seemed normal. Barely broke over 60% of max HR, which is right on track with the effort I put in (around 115 to 120 Watts for the entire ride). Nothing unusual and no spikes or erratic behavior. Hopefully yesterday was an anomaly and…
  • Didn't post yesterday as I had a bit of a scare. Did 6K on the rower (easy) and, at least I thought, my HRM was reading high the entire time. Typically, it takes 10 minutes to get my HR even over 120. I started at 100 and quickly went up to 140/150 and then was over 150 the entire row (close to 160 by the end). Out of an…
  • Me too! When I started my fitness journey, it wasn't fitness. It was rehab from a knee injury. Just learning to walk and spinning a stationary bike a few turns -- at my biggest! Today I did supersets in the AM and then was supposed to do a pretty challenging timed row -- 5 sets of 3 minute sprints/1 minute rest and…
  • 'Round an hour again today of Steady State work. 6K on the rower (at slightly under 2:25 pace) and then another half hour on the LateralX. Avg HR at 65% max and all under 72% max -- so a bit higher than I like it but overall controlled.
  • @AnnPT77 -- based on how we're heating up, you're not far off from rowing on the water. I think you've done incredibly well this Winter knowing it's not your cup of tea. Got out earlier today and did 10K on the rower out on the deck. Turf crew is coming later today and wanted to done, cleaned up and be done eating lunch…
  • Did some rowing machine sprints on the deck today. Wanted to at least get to 6 X 500m/1 rest. Did that and didn't have much left. Then, just since I couldn't do 8 in a row, did four more unstrapped. First real hard rowing interval workout in a few weeks, so not too unhappy. 1:58 average on the first six. Around 2:09…
  • That doesn't come as much of a surprise to me. You know I love to do rowing machine. I attended an online conference a few years ago when the Microbiome research was just coming to the forefront. There's a strong belief within the scientific community that diversity of the microbiome equates to better overall health. When…
  • Landscapers mostly done (still have to do the turf and one palm tree but the back isn't a nasty construction zone any longer! Yeah!). Got out the rower and rowed just 6K easy and then another 20 minutes on the Assault Bike. Missed yesterday with it being Easter. I'm the home chef so I didn't feel like rowing an hour before…
  • Got in a 50 minute or so steady state yesterday on the Assault Bike and today was intervals (normally on the rower) -- I split between LateralX and Assault Bike -- 5 minutes on, two off X seven sets. Got a really nice hard workout for not rowing. Landscapers are nearly done today except the artificial turf in the back so…
  • Just around 50 minutes on the LateralX today. Kept it all under 75% max.
