One hour of Steady State today including 20 minutes or light rowing. Was nice, but had to cover the handles with socks as the handles have turned into goo from the AZ heat this Summer. Finished with LateralX and AD Pro (Assault Bike). All from 65% to 70% max HR. Back holding up for now. Been doing a lot more Superman Yoga…

Out of curiosity, do you know if Tart Cherry, CBD Oil or some of the other more natural pain relievers (PEA, for instance) have the same ability to block gains. I know in the cardio world a few years ago, Vit E and Vit C combined, were all the rage because they found they protected your lungs from inflammation. But that…

@mtaratoot - stay safe. We went through that all of June but it mostly stayed on the mountain away from the homes. It's very bad this year, especially in CA, WA and OR. I hope you get lots of rain soon. Your governor called it a "once in a generation" event. Unfortunately, these events are what climate scientists have been…

Just weather alone makes a huge difference. I left Cincinnati, where in 3 of the last five years they've had over 60 inches of rain and likely less than 100 sunny days. Now, I'm Southern AZ with 9 or 10 months of great weather, not three like in Cincinnati. When it rains 26 of 30 days, you tend to eat a LOT more out of…

Speaking of unpopular foods -- pickled beets, done right, are amazing.

I agree with @PAPYRUS3 's assessment. I grew up in that family where most of our "veggies" were starches. My family members were terrible cooks unless it was fattening comfort food. I remember as a kid getting loads of kale from a farm family friend at church and I ate most of it -- boiled with nothing but salt. Kale…

Agree. I never used to think all that highly of the FODMAP diet, probably because I didn't fully understand it and (I think) most didn't apply it correctly. It eliminates most bread and dairy, along with many other things and it can be difficult to follow. I also know that colostrum helps tremendously. My wife went gluten…

I live in So AZ as well. I have my rower out on the deck and just got a Weider Total Gym knockoff ($150 on sale at Wally World). I'll likely put that out on the deck as well and workout outside. When it gets "cold" here in AZ (it can get down close to 30 for lows), I put on my old Ohio Winter runner gear and workout in the…

I'll be 56 in around 6 weeks and I deal with this stuff a lot. But I always do as much intensity as my body will handle. Some years, it's great, others not so great. My back, like yours, has been challenging for around a year and a half. So I thought I could just keep powering through the same stuff and it hasn't worked…

@AnnPT77 - that sounds pretty exciting! Glad it worked out and you were able to pull them all in safely! Did 20 minutes of slow rowing machine today along with 10 of my LateralX and 15 on the Assault Bike. Only 45 minutes total work. My rowing handle seems to have melted with all the heat. Nasty sticky no matter what I do.…

I like resistance bands a lot, but I also wouldn't get ones with grommets (metal loops). They can be seriously dangerous. I like the ones like @SnifterPug shows above. There are also ones that have handled with 3 holes for different bands. Like this one -- safe and very affordable. For getting started, these would be good.…

Might be because it's not widely reported (yet) what the issue is. A NYT story (I think) did report what you're saying, that it's spinal cord inflammation. I'm not sure why folks disagree. Nothing in your statement offended me. Some folks are very optimistic about the vaccines and some (I think) at this point are on the…

My wife makes a carrot cake with pineapple, coconut and a ridiculous amount of cream cheese frosting and it's the bomb. Best icing if you've ever had it -- Royal Frosting. Totally different than Buttercream Frosting. So, so good. Edit, scratch that (got my frostings confused). It's actually called Marshmallow Frosting.…

Pretty much the same thing, or at least extremely similar.

Well now I've met two that love it, you and my Mom years ago. It's healthy for you, for sure.

Little Debbies. My Mom would pack one if we had them. "Gooseliver" as well (and often because it was cheap and we didn't have a lot of money). Would drown that crap in mustard to be able to swallow it down. Braunschweiger was the technical name. If you've never had it, be thankful.…

Out of curiosity, do you normally follow Keto? You can tell me to mind my own business. I'm OK with that and I don't mean to pry, but if you are trying to follow Keto and cheat, that's perfectly understandable. I could never follow such a restrictive diet. Could that possibly be part of the reason for the secret eating?…

Yeah, I have a lot of indoor rowing buddies in the UK and some of them waited six months to get their rower from Concept2. But, think about it. Why is there such a long wait for Concept2s, while you can get a WaterRower very soon? WaterRowers are prettier, though.

Speaking of Herd Stupidity, oops, I mean Herd Immunity, German study on cell phone data just came out related to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/sturgis-motorcycle-rally-in-south-dakota-in-august-linked-to-more-than-250000-coronavirus-cases-study-finds-2020-09-08?siteid=yhoof2

But what your friend is saying is ludicrous.

Maybe, but the science is hardly sound on that. The only issue that might affect it is the amount of Round-Up, which does have antibiotic properties to it, on the microbiome -- which does directly influence weight. I try to eat organic grains/beans and stay away from vegetable oils. I also don't eat a lot of ready…

Bluelight exposure hours before bed can wreak havoc on your sleep. I have a bluelight filter on all electronics and stay off the computer for a few hours before bed. Research is finding the retina in your eyes has a LOT to do with sex hormones. Electronic devices are killing us. I also have an app called SnoreLab that…

I still use my bags to take the groceries home. Though you have to bag it yourself, I ask if the bagger can unload my groceries and it works out great. We just exchange sides. I have mesh produce bags, though, that aren't allowed (for the produce department). They'll let you use your own bags to take groceries home but…

You might be right Lynn, but this article is related to what I was talking about with the T Cells. I'm hoping that this is accurate and, at least to me, it's one of the most optimistic things I've read about Covid-19. https://www.sacbee.com/news/coronavirus/article245092810.html?ocid=uxbndlbing

I do believe that. I don't think we'll ever reach over 1M dead and I pray I'm right about that. The most encouraging news I've heard is that no matter what antibodies we have, once we've been exposed, our T Cells know how to handle this better, lasting way longer than antibodies. It's not that I think a vaccine can't be…

There's a meme going around from Science Doesn't Care what you Think on FB. It's hysterical. It says that only 1% of those killed by dinosaurs was actually only killed by dinosaurs (those eaten totally in one bite). Most died along with detached heads and total loss of bodily fluids, so reopen the park!! But you are right.…

There's a startup company that I track because I've done some recruiting in the algae space. They take started by taking toxic algae out of lakes and making the foam insoles. Now they are up to making entire shoes from toxic algae. Taking things out of lakes that harm the fish and using it for something constructive. I…

That's fantastic. I'm very happy for you!! More of the same for me. Harder Friday intervals. Put on my back up HRM and it works, so that's a huge plus. 6 X 5 minutes hard w/ 2 minute active rests. Also did 100 pushups this AM as well.

I think it's human nature to just slack off sometimes. I'm better about it now with diet but I work from home and work on 100% commission. When something goes wrong one day, I recognize, in myself, that it can be a slippery slope for a day or two. You have one "failure" and it can compound into several days of slacking…

Heard the new projections this morning that now most models are saying over 400K dead by the first of the year. Honestly, that sounds about right. That's why I said it wouldn't surprise me if we reached Herd Immunity before we had a vaccine proven to work. I can't see 1M dying, but I can certainly see the Fall/Winter being…
