  • I had a twitter one time, but I deleted it. Not a lot of my friends have a twitter. I use Facebook so as to connect with family and friends, and to also upload a whole album of photos. but only some of my friends check fb.... Lol. I also have to use Facebook for work stuff (boss uses group page for updates). I have snap…
  • Such a wonderful story. I'm very happy for you. It's people like you I admire! 6 years ago, I was a small teenager who lacked so much confidence, and I had ex-friends and family telling me I look pregnant. They said the same thing to my sister too. It hurt us, but we decided to make something out of it. So we took our…
  • Like everyone said, habit. My job (zumba and group fitness instructor) is very physically demanding. I just make sure I get plenty of sleep, rest in between hours, and eat a good amount of carbs and fats. I also stretch.... And massage my feet. Lol
  • I can't drink coffee since my stomach aches so badly from it (any kind of coffee, sadly). I drink my homemade fruit smoothies though! I did that today, and had just enough energy to teach my zumba class. :) I also have to drink plenty of water too. If I need an extra filler, probably a handful of cashew nuts.
  • Don't compare your diet with other people's because everybody has their own individualized goal. I'm on 1300 cal and to fill myself up, I consume nutriously dense food. More fruits, veggies, protein, fats, brown rice (if I remember to cook it ahead of time). You do whatever feels comfortable for you. You can always adjust…
  • I'm a group fitness trainer. I HIGHLY (VERY HIGHLY) recommend a combination of both so that way you don't lose muscle while losing fat. Yes, more muscle burns more calories. Don't neglect cardio though because cardio helps improve your performance in strength training as well as providing a whole lot of other benefits. I…
  • [Greek] yogurt, nuts of any kind or nut butters, fruits, eggs, [overnight] oatmeal, sometimes I go for a protein bar. Usually if I try to hit 500 cal, I would have my peanut butter overnight oats with a large banana, or yogurt topped with lots of fruits and nuts.
  • Fiber will always slow down the digestion and thereby helping with blood sugar spikes. But no matter, anything you eat will always spike your blood sugar (and that's normal). Just make sure you eat things in right amounts and it will be fine.
  • Oh man there are so many.... lol! funnel cake, ice cream, cream-filled churros, froyo, Chicago deep dish pizza, monster-sized burritos filled with other foods... one time I had a fat burrito with eggrolls, cajun fries, sausages, and whole lot more. It was so glorious. The list goes on. :D
  • Hi there! I'm a zumba instructor. :) Trainings may vary based on the ZES (zumba educational specialist) but basic outline of the training: 1) one hour zumba class 2) lecture: intro and format 3) do a drill where you come up with a cardio or toning move for Zumba. 4) learn merengue steps. Zes will teach one merengue song 5)…
  • You could do workouts that are short, but intense. For example, tabata works well for those who are busy bees. I know some tabata formats are about 7 min long, each comprising of certain moves that go on for X seconds and rest between for less than X seconds... It can be just as effective as a 45 min workout if you go all…
  • I'm not going to reiterate what everyone has already said for me LOL, but if you want to see physical changes through exercise, just remember to keep "confusing the muscles" and add challenges. You can do this by increasing the intensity (weight of something, more plyo, etc), increasing reps, etc. You need to make sure…
  • I have students in my group fitness classes who can't do burpees because lots of them had back surgeries and/or back pain. If you really want to do burpees, I suggest walking them out and completely eliminating the jump. On your way up, you could pop a squat like someone said above, or do light front kicks with the guard…
  • I love doing blogilates from youtube!!!! I've been following her for years. Most of her videos last between 3-10 min, but she does have videos that are 30 min long if you want a full workout straight away. She does both pilates, HIIT, cardio, and some warmups and stretches. She also has a free workout calendar every single…
  • You are absolutely NOT alone! When I first started my journey, I had no knowledge at all about dieting and exercise. From whatever I learned from pop culture and media, I expected to see results very quick if I did crazy cardio and avoided all sources of carbs. I was told by people that the weight scale determined how much…
  • Half serving size of mango. :P mango is my favorite fruit!
  • Usually around 6 pm! but a couple days a week I have to work at 6:30 pm, so I'll eat at 8 pm with my snack at 4 pm.
  • All sorts of smoothie variations (fruit only, fruit + veggies, whatever is left in the fridge pretty much LOL), smoothie BOWLS, yogurt with fruit and nuts, egg fritatas with veggies in them, whole wheat pita bread with peanut butter and banana (my favorite). I've seen some recipes on pinterest of people creating these…
  • I would say near 9 servings more or less. I just make sure I don't go too crazy with the fruits (even though I love them <3 ) like I did back then for juices and smoothies. It spiked my blood sugar level like crazy and my doctor freaked. Haha! Majority of the time I eat cooked veggies with my meats and carbs for lunch and…
  • I keep my snacks as simple as possible, so for example, 1) an apple 2) an orange 3) peanuts or cashews (but less than one serving if you want <100cals) 4) I guess a package of unsalted seaweed chips... they're not the most beneficial in terms of nutrition, but they're a filler-upper for 50 calories. 5) If I have it with…
  • I was shocked too when I first had to log it in AFTER eating it. lol. I'll have it when I have my "cheat meal" or if I'm out just to have fun at some party, but I definitely try to keep my mind off of eating it. :D Last week my parents actually ate some costco pizza, but I was the only person in the house who was eating…
  • Hi! I am a group fitness instructor who teaches with resistant bands at my local gym. :) Resistant bands are excellent! You can pretty much do your regular bodyweight exercises and then amp it up with the resistant bands. Adds way more intensity and therefore challenges your muscles. Alot of times I make students do all…
  • Have you been challenging your body with different exercises? Sometimes our bodies get used to whatever stresses you put on it so you have to constantly "confuse the muscles" to really bring results of some sort. As a group fitness teacher, I have to change things up every week for my students so that way they don't feel…
  • Love: Zumba and Pilates Like: any other group fitness formats (Eg: kickboxing, yoga, bootcamps). I like swimming too. Lifting is cool. Dislike: running. Ugh. I'll do it if someone is chasing me or if I have to go after food... otherwise I really don't like running.
  • Hello! I'm a zumba instructor. :) Yes, zumba is quite a bit of cardio, but depending on the teacher and their routines, zumba can help you tone up (mainly in the core if you really place that energy there). If you take other zumba formats like zumba toning for instance, you could benefit more with strength. Not trying to…
  • I feel you, girl. I get bloats AND cramps before my period, and the bloating lasts until my period ends. It sucks, but there's not much else you could do but drink water (which is what you're doing already) and eating well. Perhaps increasing potassium intake could help? Green tea could possibly help too. Avoid eating…
