No, actually, I'm quite healthy--and happy on Keto/LCHF. I started cutting carbs because I had arthritis pains, which went away because of my new way of eating. I will never go back to a carb diet.

"If I knew that I'd actually lose weight, it might be worth it, but the stress from all of the counting and the self hatred and depression every time that I step on the scale and see a gain instead of a loss are really taking their toll." What you say here really breaks my heart because I can relate so much! If it helps at…

I agree with lodro. On LCHF, when you're in ketosis, what you eat is more important than exercise for losing weight. Despite what we've been told for decades, exercising is not the key. Exercise is good for us, yes, but to lose weight it's the distribution of calories and what we're eating that'll lead to long term…

Hi! I just joined this LCHF/Keto group (see link below) which seems great. (I made the mistake of joining in another conversation yesterday where I am being attacked by wolves (haha) because I expressed my enthusiasm for keto dieting.) The closed group is more supportive:…

We burn both fat eaten and stored, actually. But ok. There are more experts out there on Keto than Taubes who agree. It's not a new concept.

haha  Yes, sometimes I think it might be best if I just acted surprised when people ask me about my weight loss: "What?! Really? I've lost weight? Why, thank you."

Congrats on your success! I think's it's SO odd that people find it acceptable to bluntly blurt out things about our appearance no matter what. For years (literally, 10 years!), a coworker of mine told me I looked "tired" almost daily...and expressed that he was saying it only because he was "so concerned" until one day I…

I love keto too! When I started eating this way 2 yrs ago I didn't even have a name for it. I stopped eating sugar to help early arthritis symptoms in my hands and it worked! Then I noticed my clothes were getting too big----bonus!! :) I didn't get on the scale for months (too discouraging) but was shocked when I did----…

I don't really ban anything except bad oils and processed foods. After 2 yrs on keto, I don't want much of anything that's sugary or starchy anymore. ..plus it makes me achey when I eat it now. :(

Ok, thanks.

I agree, real food is best. The convenience, processed junk is awful. Shows that yes, calories count but not just any calories. Glad he's doing great now.

I've read a lot on the subject and will be happy to look up your suggestions too. Thx.

Sorry I didn'tmean to say I don't support calorie counting. I support all who struggle w/ weight as I do. My original post was meant kindly not being mean or dissing anyone. ☺ I just joined MFP yesterday and though my share could help someone--not all.

Ok--happy for you! Awesome.

Ok--happy for all who reach their goals regardless of how they get there. Just thought this might be a supportive, open minded group--a community--of people... a place to share our knowledge, personal experience and enthusiasm. Have a great day.

There's so much more to LCHF than calories in/out, though. Yes, it helps reduce calories because you don't feel hungry on lchf/keto once you're in ketosis. Without the insulin surges caused by carbs, your body burns its stored fat for fuel...so you end up losing lots more body fat (inches) than on a calorie counting diet…

YES! LCHF (emphasis on high fat) absolutely does work...AND it's the healthiest way to eat because it suppresses the insulin surges caused by carbs. LCHF eating heals the body and nourishes the brain. It gets our bodies to burn stored fat for fuel, which leads to inches lost gradually. I highly recommend that you read Why…

Started 2 yrs ago to see if the arthritis pain in my hands would go away and it worked! The weight loss was a bonus. I lost 34 lbs in about 6 months without ANY hunger or carb cravings. I literally NEVER get hungry eating this way but have tons of energy. Now I'm working on trying to burn those last 10 lbs of fat... which…

I've been following a keto diet for about 2 years. I lost 34 lbs in about 6 months and maintained it. I also feel so much healthier overall on keto. Now I'm using MFP to help me lose my last 10 lbs or so. I'm hoping MFP will assist me in paying closer attention to my macros. Any tips that you have for me would be much…
