There's HUGE gains in going down with more than you can take back up. There's a term for it that I can't think of right off hand, but you'll get to higher weights a lot faster by having assistance going up then taking it down on your own with a weight higher than you can lift versus just repeatedly lifting your max. Keep…

That's awesome! Welcome back! Are you just looking to lose the weight, or do you have other goals?
-
Good for you! You never do it if you don't challenge yourself. You'll get it next time!

It is a good tool for a variety of different diet and fitness objectives and approaches. What are you working on?

Welcome Kelly! There are several different accountability groups under the Motivation and Support category. I really like the features that the MFP app has for tracking food and exercise. Using that and finding a few people with common goals makes a big difference in making consistent progress in your fitness journey. What…

Welcome! The tracking makes a huge difference in tracking your progress. What are your fitness goals?

The book recommends that protein intake be limited to 10-15% of the dietary calories. Again, I don't necessarily agree with that number or the specifics of the author, but I take it into consideration in planning my own dietary goals.

As I mentioned in my original post, I don't embrace all of the recommendations of that particular book, but it provides some points that are worth considering in a balanced consideration of the question at hand. Several people have suggested that there are absolutely no adverse consequences of eating an unlimited quantity…

So opposing view points are unwelcome?
-
Not to argue, but there is some evidence to support an opposing viewpoint. If you're interested, I recommend a book called the China Study. The author suggests that excess protein intake can increase your levels of free radicals (if I remember correctly) and contribute to a variety of diseases. I don't buy into everything…

I really love this thread. I think sometimes people get so wrapped up in looking good that they don't really push their limits. I just about passed out last week working out with my trainer. It was really embarrassing lying on the floor trying not to throw up. When I went back today I was tempted for a minute to take it…

Social distancing. Seriously though, I think that there are two things that make a big difference for me. The first is just finding something that I really enjoy doing that totally takes my mind off of food. When I'm out hiking in the mountains I have to remind myself to eat or I'll go all day without a proper meal. The…

I heard a really great comment about this idea last weekend. Someone mentioned that even though you may have highs and lows from day to day and even moment to moment, progress is steadily, constantly learning. A lot of times I think it's hard to recognize progress in ourselves. That's why it's so good to have a…

That's how I feel about peaches. There's like one week of the year when they're perfectly amazing, and other than that they're all mealy and flavorless.

Red hair.

That is challenging you get food allergies dialed in. I always feel better all around when I'm eating right. I had a long road trip last weekend where I just ate like crap and my body was sore for days afterwards. I'm sure part of the problem was being in the car all day, but I think poor eating took its toll.

That's awesome that you're devoting yourself to making a positive change Kendra. I don't know your situation, but 7 pounds is a pretty small gain for a year of quarantine. You should be able to burn that off in short order. What are you hoping to be confident in?

We are the product of the five people we spend the most time with. I think sometimes we aren't intentional enough about those influences, but it's awesome that you recognize that and try to uplift others. Rock on!

I'm with you Niner. I love to hunt, and I find that if I'm not in shape it really limits my ability to enjoy the sport. I want to keep doing it for as long as I'm able, and pushing myself to do things that are just outside my comfort zone really helps keep me in that sweet spot. Thanks for sharing.

I'm a big fan of Tony Robbins, and he talks about what a powerful motivator fear can be. I think that concern can get you on the right path, but it might not keep you there. For example, what will keep you motivated when you don't have that concern any more? By the way, you're a beautiful woman, and I can guarantee that…

That is addictive! I tend to work out to support my diet as well, but I'm getting better about finding a balance. I find that when I'm fit I naturally want to eat better.

I do enjoy seeing the pounds come off. As for the fashion, I'll have to work on that one a bit. With my clothes fitting a bit more loosely, I'm about due for a wardrobe update!

Good company is a great motivator! Anyone in particular?

Flying, hiking, archery, hunting, traveling, and reading. Just recently taking up scuba diving and trying my hand at welding.

Welcome Becky! It's a great community and MFP has some outstanding tools. What are your fitness goals? What's driving you?

Always a good coach to have in your corner.

I think that what's important isn't doing something short term that's just going to burn fat and build muscle without being sustainable. Balance your diet and limit your calories to get down to your ideal weight sustainably. Your body will take a while to find an equilibrium, but it knows what it needs and will adapt. To…

I like pistol squats and split squat jumps. Booyah!

Great art Luke! The first time I went to a trainer at the gym, I told him that I was there because I wanted my wife to sigh whenever I took off my shirt. Maybe I should have told her that was the expectation.
