Yes... See your PT! No one here can properly advise you on how best to attack this. A PT will see the connections that others won't. It is probably about more than that lat, and adjacent muscles might be brought in if it can't be worked optimally. Best of luck!

So not a morning person, but feel so good after morning workout. My routine: Start coffee and find the carb I'll eat. Drink glass of water. Drink coffee and eat a small carb to fuel the workout: a banana or a corn tortilla with a thin schmear of refried beans. (Unless I'm training for a half, and my mileage is going to be…

Go for it! Remember that people who train for longer races never actually run the entire distance during their training. You're there! Get yourself a good playlist to listen to with a steady, slowish song to start so you don't go out too fast (I am very fond of "Africa" by Toto). Belly breathe (this kicks in your…

Your body and your mind need a day off. Very well run *** recent*** studies show conclusively that a rest day is essential to top performance. It allows your muscles a full day to repair. People who do not take a rest day a week may be very fit and very strong, but they rarely find out what their bodies are truly capable…

Get thee to a physical therapist! Please do not take advice here (except for that advising you to get professional assessment). It is a great way to aggravate what's already hurting, or injure yourself when you may not yet actually have an injury. A PT will be able to assess exactly why you are having pain--it could have…

First: get fitted for some good, new shoes. Go to a small, local running store, not a big box like Dick's. just be prepared to spend the money. It will save your joints in the end. Your feet and your shoes are the foundation that you are working with so make sure they are taken care of very well. Now, I was a runner as a…

OMG! I know exactly what you mean. One thing that I find helps me a lot, is to chop the vegetables in a salad really small and fine instead of leaving them all big and blousy. When they're chopped fine you get more in a serving so you have to eat what seems like less. Psychologically that helps a lot! Other than that… I…

Popcorn. Popcorn. Popcorn. When using it to make a sauce, it's especially spectacular if you toast it in the bottom of the pan just until it starts to smell good. Then start up the sauce. Throw in sliced, sautéed mushrooms. OMG. Also a great replacement for salt if you are watching your sodium.

If you want to cross check, try Spark People.

I have not had this surgery, but I would suggest you ask your surgeon about deep water walking. It may not be stable enough, but if it's approved, you'll get great benefit. It feels like you aren't doing anything, but it is a great workout. Good luck with your recovery.

1. Write down your goals 2. Figure out how you want to get there (torture, reasonably but challenged, slowly and gently) 3. Google "sports massage." I know that doesn't seem to make sense, but sports massage therapists see the havoc wrought on athletes by themselves and by their trainers. Call 4 or 5 and ask their advise…

I agree that Stanton's program may by a bit much for a first timer. Maybe at least take a look at Galloway. Stanton took his cues from Galloway, but Galloway is far more humane. He wants you to love running. His website might be worth a look see. Can you allow yourself to make your first goal simply to ***complete*** a…

You can enter "gardening" but the calorie burn they alledge is for cyborgs. Not sure what kind of gardening they are referring to! It looks like a lot of sites run 300-350 per hour for lawn mowing. Check out Spark People because you can put in your weight as well as activity and time.

PT! They will give you the very best program for you. Mine just gave me an amazingly effective squat that is completely the opposite of all other squats I've been taught-- including by her over the years we've been together. And she taught me very gentle but effective core exercises that are not standard planks, crunches,…

Weak VM veteran here! My PT taught me two great weight machine exercises to strengthen the VM. You can also do this by jiggering with Therabands. On the leg extension machine, be sure you are pointing your toes outward rather than straight forward. This helps isolate the VM. Then, on the leg curl machine, point your toes…

I'm 5'6". I just shared a pic with some friends of me bolting down the track at age 15. I weighed 125-ish. Big-boned, squatty-legged, thin as a rail, and no breasts to speak of. I was on swim team all year round and added track on top in the spring, volleyball in the fall. Plus biking and running around. I was that weight…

Oh for heaven's sake! Log it as an egg. As often as you get one of these, it hardly matters in the scheme of things. (But don't tell my girls I said that. They might go on strike due to my lack of wonder).

Irksome! But, it could've been the hardware. Recently, my teenage son was unable to run in a 5k we'd both signed up for. I thought maybe this would be my chance to "beat" him for once. So I pinned my race bib (with Chip timer ) on my front, and folded up his and put it in the pouch in my back. Ha-ha! I would beat him by…

Looks like a great way to make you end up hating running. Also, real honest-to-god scientific studies show that about 2/3 of people who take up running will not lose weight, even CICO. I'm one of them. I keep running anyway!
-
Oh my God! I know exactly what you were talking about. The best advice I ever got, was to make an appointment with a physical therapist once a year for a tuneup. Ask around at places like small running shops – – not places like Dick's--to see if they have any recommendations. It's important to find a physical therapist who…

I grew up on a meaty diet, and became an ovo-lacto vegetarian for ten years during which I worked heavy blue collar work. I did a good job of being a healthy vegetarian: getting all the nutrients, etc. Then I met a hunter, and elk blackstrap was the end of that nonsense! I've gone back and forth a few times, but I really…

Love my 5 pounder! BTW--after having it for years it started going nuts the other day flashing random numbers even when not being touched. New batts didn't help. A search of the internet showed that if I would pop off the top, remove the two screws holding a silver dealie down underneath there, and vacuum it out, it would…

Agave syrup, though it has a good glycemic index, has much higher levels of fructose than even high fructose corn syrup--perfect for developing more fat! The excitement over it years ago has been replaced with the scientific knowledge that it is actually worse for us in the long run. Run away!

I totally get exactly what you're saying. Binging and sugar addiction. Yes, I believe it's an addiction. I had very good luck getting off sugar using a book called "I Quit Sugar." As with any book about dietary change, it has its pros and cons. But, for the most part she has a lot of really good information and help. It's…

Heck yeah! And without eating anything that isn't actually food--like artificial sweeteners or protein powders or other such nonsense.

Zero. Uncertain of the appeal. Not that I won't eat way weird junk food, but I never even wanted one as a kid.

I love my OXO Good Grips 5 lb. scale with pull out display. You can do oz. or gm, it has a tare weight function. You can pick one up at Bed Bath and Beyond for $30. I've had mine for over 3 years, and not a bit of trouble with it. I use it a lot.

LOL! I haven't been a size 2 since I was 2! I was athletic or did blue collar work most of my under-35 years. But because I am made from good, solid, peasant stock, even "skinny," I've never been skinny. I've got big bones, and shoulders like a linebacker. I'd love to be a not-one-ounce-of-fat-on-me 125 again, and do that…

It doesn't have a taste. As pp mentioned, it is popular with celiacs as a binder in gf breads. Many of us, however, who are truly gluten intolerant, or gluten sensitive, find even small amounts can trigger gut reactions--usually a case of the squats. More recipes are using psyllium husks instead. Thank you for mentioning…
