I'm not surprised you're met with resistance. Who likes to be told how to eat and live in their own home? You do what you need to do (save the calories from the day before or train them off later), and let them do what they want to. They may change when they're good and ready, or they may not.

If you enjoy walking why don't you just do more of what you like? Don't just walk for one mile but do 5.

Do you mean NSV? Non-scale victory as far as I know... such as a reduction in waist size or better resting heart rate or a new 5k PB... basically any success that's not to do with the scale.
