I tried the fasting on my own after hearing all the raves and benefits from others (who swear by it). I also did research online and only saw positive opinions/experiences so I decided to give it a go. It did not work out in my favor.

I have epilepsy. I tried water fasting twice and both times, my blood sugar dropped to 24 and 37 before the 24 hour mark, followed by hypoglycemic seizures...

I lost over 50 pounds and got to a low weight by intuitive eating. Irony is when I joined MFP and began logging, I re-gained a lot. Am debating on leaving lol.

I can't fast. Last time I did a fast, my blood sugar tanked to 24. And the time before that was 37. I fainted. Both fasts were less than a day.

I gained muscle (I get DEXA scans by the way). In 2013, I started at 187 pounds and 43% body fat. After crash dieting (no exercise), I was 121 pounds and 27% body fat by 2015. I also have epilepsy by the way. I began heavy lifting and switched to a diet higher in protein/fat and lower in carbs while cycling my calories…

I'm on a keto diet. I have epilepsy. My seizures have reduced.
-
I've never heard of those. See, this is why I'm losing hope in the medical field.

I feel better when I take tablespoons of coconut oil. Idk how to explain it. My cramps are minimized and less gas.
-
What do you mean another? Can you please explain? This is a support forum too, no?

PS- the symptoms my doctor found so far were stomach ulcers (endoscopy), impacted stool (scan), bacteria overgrowth in the small intestine (hydrogen breath test), and gastroparesis (emptying test). But she basically said these are all symptoms to something else. Neither her or the other doctors have found out the main…

What do you think is the solution to malabsorption?
-
Thanks! I actually never knew that's what it really meant :)
-
I dont see a problem with it. My protein in take ranges from 140-180 per day. Protein has the highest TEF and provides lots of satiety so I view it as a benefit, especially when cutting.

Does she have undiagnosed thyroid problem that may be causing her confusion?
-
My TDEE is 1600-3000+. My daily calories are different. They range from 700-3,000. I don't see a point in forcing myself to eat the same number of calories daily. That's going against my body's natural appetite fluctuation. I use weekly calories.

I'm 5'6 and was 125 in 2016, was a size 0, and tested 18-19% body fat. I relied on public transportation, had to carry heavy bags all the way home after shopping for groceries, walked to and from college campus, biked to work, had a heavy college backpack, and ate a high protein diet. So I think that all had something to…

I lost most weight during high carb vegan. Actually was bordering underweight at 115 and 5'6. It did nothing for my seizures though. In fact, they were at their highest. Keto is kinda opposite for me. Over the past couple years, I've slowly gained a fraction of the weight I lost (am a healthy/regular weight now) but am…

For anyone who says Keto is not sustainable. Well, that's your problem. Yes, I agree that keto can be difficult. But you need to ask yourself if the pros will outweigh the cons. If not, just stick to your own way of eating. I have epilepsy and ever since keto, my seizures have reduced dramatically. I don't care how…

Have you considered volume eating? As in low calorie foods but lots of it? It may give a similar feeling without weight gain (unless you suffer from Crohn's or Gastroparesis in which I do not recommend volume eating).
-
That's great! Can I add you?
-
None lol

Keto is currently helping my epilepsy and digestive issues. My seizures have reduced and my bloating, cramps, chronic constipation, etc are gone. Interestingly, in the process, there was a week where I ate nothing but 24 tablespoons of coconut oil every day. The higher fat keto is originally aimed for neurological…

Fast Tract Diet (medical gut-friendly diet, although it can be modified as low carb/keto if you wish).

I can't eat what I want and lose weight, unfortunately. Too many digestive issues. If/when I eat the wrong thing, it "accumulates" and my stomach swells and I'll rapidly gain weight (that wont leave until my bowels are completely cleared)...
-
Well it depends on the reason for their denial. My stepmother was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a long time ago and ate more than a grown man yet continued rapidly losing weight (until she got put on meds). I don't blame her for being confused and skeptical back then. And then there's my case (rare digestive condition) in…
-
Yes, I skip meals. But that's because I'm never hungry for breakfast or lunch lol. Just dinner.
-
Possibly. I know when my digestive issues used to be very bad, I would literally look 5 months pregnant after eating certain foods and rapidly gained 15-20 pounds (all which I lost in a matter of only 2 days when my GI doctor gave me a suprep). I was eventually diagnosed with colonic inertia and gastroparesis. Fiber is not…

I don't like oatmeal. It makes me bloat.
-
Then what point is the article trying to make?
-
I disagree. I've gotten a few DEXA scans and lost a lot of my weight and body fat without much exercise, heavy breathing, let alone sweating (I personally hate sweating).
