Weight training preserves muscle, but doesn't necessarily burn a lot of calories. Aerobic exercise burns more calories but is not muscle-preserving. Both are recommended for fitness and health, and can contribute to the total calories expended daily, but neither is required for weight loss.
Greene doesnt…

He acknowledges that in the book. It looks like my synopsis didnt do his book justice. The point he is making is that aerobic exercise 5-7 days a week revs up your metabolism so that you burn more calories throughout the day than you normally would. This, coupled with eating only when hungry and stopping when you are full,…

I am not an Oprah fan either but I wouldn't dismiss Greene's book because of their association. He was her trainer around 15-20 years ago. She got incredibly fit because of him. She is in her 60s now and I'm sure it's not easy maintaining that kind of a strict exercise/eating lifestyle for 20 years consistently without…

@Stacyines not really. Just basic stuff like couscous, omelettes, Kraft macaroni, stirfry.
-
@Treehugger_88 do you mean you buy frozen veggies for stir frying? Fresh ones would take hours to wash, peel and cut.
-
@Alatariel75 do you mean ready-made mashed potatoes? I remember my mom used to make it from scratch and it definitely wasnt quick and east.
-
Thanks. This has all been really insightful.
-
Do you have a picture? It's hard to picture that @kaizaku
-
I guess I was hoping the calories would be burned away in the pan!!! Lol @cwolfman13
-
@cnbbnc Thanks! Is humidity good for salad? I always adjust my fridge's fruits and veggies shelf on "low humidity."
-
@lorrpb You are absolutely right. I haven't allowed much of a margin for error and all calorie counts are estimates. This is so wise! Thank you.

@ugofatcat Open. Critique away. :)

I'm going to cry. I already eat just barely satisfying my stomach. Reducing more means taking away flavour (oil, sugar, cheese) or reducing more volume, and at this point, I feel like I am living on the basics. This is verr bad news indeed... :(

@s_carson Should we be recalculating calorie goals after 7lbs?
-
Not sure what type of cooking you have been exposed to, but I would be surprised if you tried and didn't like vegetables prepared in a Mediterranean way. Look up Armenian/Turkish/Lebanese veggie recipes on Pinterest and see if they appeal. As far as British/Canadian/American cooking goes, I agree that the food is bland and…

260 and i usually eat back 100

I love MFP and the community here too! I always recommend it to my friends.

@kshama2001 My period is due tomorrow. You're right, i do lose weight the week after my period, but I thought going over my calorie budget would result in weight gain (or at least plateau) regardless. The only explanation I can think of is I overestimated the calories in my binges? ie a fried Mandarin egg roll and breaded…

Hi all - yes i am weighing my meals and logging calories. Also eating back half of exercise calories. Period started today so will see what scale says next Tuesday. I weigh myself weekly only. Thx to all.
-
@daniip_la But over a three week period? Doesn't water weight come and go for a maximum of a few days?
-
Yes! I am so thankful for being enlightened to the fact that it's all about calories in, calories out and the whole scale thing is soooo helpful. It doesn't take much food to go over your daily requirements, thereby getting fat, and it does seem difficult cutting back calories to lose weight. It's just science/math.…

Just saw this. Ok, so I think we ALL naturally like fatening foods. That's why the food industry makes billions of dollars and McDonalds is so rich!!! But just because you like something, it doesnt mean you cant live without it or learn to like something else as a replacement. I stopped consuming colas 20 years ago. To me,…

Hi JDB, For 5'5, 4,500 calories is a crazy amount of calories! You must be living the good life and indulging in every kind of high-fat, high-flavour, high-calorie food for all three meals!! If you search my name, you'll see I posted two weeks ago about how impossible it is going to be to go from my usual 2,000-2,300…
-
Congrats! I weigh 180 lbs too. How many calories are you consuming? My weight hasn't budged yet.
-
I actually feel maintaining was easier. The reward was fitting into clothes nicely and being able to say proudly "I am 150 lbs" versus 180 ashamedly. I must have maintained for a few years before my life priorities changed and tracking my weight was no longer important. That's when my weight creeped up from 150 to 180 lbs…

It's because I get hungry. Perhaps blood sugar drops ? Not sure. But it goes away as soon as I eat, especially with a sweet snack like cereal.

The reason for the odd entries is that I'm having difficulty finding the right serving sizes in the app, so sometimes I have to get creative. For example, yesterday for the life of me, I could not find a shepherd salad measured in anything other than grams. I needed to know how many calories in two cups but MFP does not…

I've been off the weight loss/management wagon for a few years now, but am I seriously only supposed to be eating half a cup of oatmeal for breakfast? Are 40 cherry tomatoes a diet no-no? I am going to have to see where I can scrape off a few calories from each meal, but this is really worrisome as I am hardly overeating…

Hi everyone, Thank you for your support. I really like this app and had high hopes for it. It's so much better than WW and it's free - best part. My diary is now public. Am I really messing up my eating? I think my measurements are accurate. (Please don't look at yesterday's meals though. It was a special day out and I ate…
