  • Eh, without more info about daily living, I really wouldn't venture to guess a student's daily activity level. I've personally run the gamut in activity level during my undergraduate and graduate years. Based on the OP's observation that she was maintaining on 1800 calories a day in Dec, it's likely that she's adding a few…
  • Also, before Christmas when you were maintaining your lower weight on 1800 calories a day...Was your activity level similar then or were you doing more exercise then? If similar, then now you can probably lose 1 pound a week eating about 1300 calories a day and 1/2 pound a week eating about 1550 calories a day. If you were…
  • Basically, you have two options: (1) You could put sedentary and then log the calories burned during your daily walk and eat those back (ranging from eating some of the calories to all of them). (2) You can put lightly active and not log the calories burned during your daily walk. MFP is designed to be used like the first…
  • I worked at Starbucks for years so have burnt out on their drinks. Back in the day though, I recall liking a tall latte with 1 pump white mocha and 1 pump cinnamon dolce. For fraps, I liked java chip with 1 scoop vanilla bean powder. Neither of these are low calorie! ;) The latte is slightly lower calorie than it would…
  • I would like to kidnap you, please.
  • Yeah, and that wasn't even the whole head! I was nice this time and shared a little. More often than not, I eat the whole thing myself.
  • cauliflower (735 grams) ~ 7 servings sweetened dried cherries (10 g) ~ 1/3 of a serving a couple bites of a kale/chard/white bean dish that I prepared for tomorrow
  • I was trying to get my veg on earlier and was prepping some celery sticks. As I tore off the stalks, a fat spider crawled out of the bunch. #traumatized #whygodwhy
  • I don’t think of it as binge eating, but when I’m hungry at night my go-to is usually a big serving of veg with a little fat. The other night I was hungry, so I ate 4 servings of seasoned green beans with a little butter. I actually really love veg so I find that an enjoyable way to eat but I’m sure it sounds like hell to…
  • I’m a little shorter than you. For me, at 118 I’m a full C cup and in the low 100’s I’m a small B. It’s funny how our body has its own rules for where it loses weight. Stomach is first for me and breasts are last. I stay a C cup until around 107 pounds but lower than that and my breasts deflate. Such a dramatic change in…
  • The first product is talking about 100 grams of uncooked pasta. For the second product, when they’re saying 100 grams, they’re not referring to 100 grams of dry pasta that you then cook according to package instructions. They’re referring to 100 grams of pasta that’s already been cooked. Dry pasta about doubles as it cooks…
  • I think you’re smart to be paying attention to which method feels more freeing for you, if that feeling makes calorie counting more sustainable for you long term. People often talk about losing weight in a way that you can sustain forever. If meticulously counting calories for the rest of your life (or even the rest of…
  • I remember back when my brother lost over 100 pounds about 15 years ago. Sometimes I’d be with him when people asked what he’d done to lose the weight. He’d always answer, “Diet and exercise.” So many people looked disappointed and said, “Oh,” as if his answer smelled bad. I was so naive before that. I really hadn’t…
  • I’m confused as to why it being 2 cups makes you second guess the serving size you consumed? What’s making you think it should’ve been only 1 cup? Sounds to me like you ate approximately 1 serving, so about 200 calories. :) ETA: So I googled and saw that a serving of cooked pasta is often estimated as 1 cup. That can vary…
  • (I’d like to apologize to myself for using the phrase “lean muscle” since that’s one of my pet peeves. :D I just meant muscle!)
  • It always makes me think of Gremlins.
  • 2 pounds a month is really good, especially as a female with not much to lose. Going slow and steady also means it’s more likely that a higher percentage of that loss is fat (rather than lean muscle). That’s great for both appearance and health. I know the pace can get frustrating but the truth is you’re doing really well!
  • My brother lost over 100 pounds 15 years ago by counting calories but he didn’t use a food scale. He’s a had a few minor regains since then (20 pounds a couple times and 40 pounds once). He took that weight off w/o a food scale too. I’ve actually not (knowingly) known anyone who’s lost weight using a food scale. It’s a…
  • My brother was just raving about these to me earlier. He said it's really good and also filling. He likes it with a banana sliced in.
  • Over the course of the day, I typically spend anywhere from 50 - 300+ calories on added fats (usually olive oil and/or Kerrygold butter mmm). When I'm losing, I have a pitiful calorie salary (in the 1300's) but the oil calories (and fat calories in general) are worth it for me bc I enjoy what they add to food (flavor and…
  • I enjoy this combo too. :) I also include black pepper.
  • Mmm, I'm a fan of goldfish and cheez its too. Have you tried Cabot's snack sized sharp cheddar cheese? They're a good sub for salty and cheesy snack foods like that imo. https://www.cabotcheese.coop/seriously-sharp-cheddar-cheese-serious-snacking I usually pair it with a small serving of nuts for some crunch or with fruit.
  • I ate a pescatarian diet for 6 years. I ate fish maybe three or four times a week then. My favorite way to cook white fish was to oil it up, season it, and top with about 1 or 2 T of breadcrumbs. (I use panko now.) I’d then drizzle more olive oil on the breadcrumbs (or top it with some butter, but you could skip that since…
  • Making a veg-heavy soup you like is an easy and convenient way to get a good mix in your diet each day.
  • I eat large servings of veg. My typical “serving” of veg is 2-4 times the standard serving size. I don’t usually eat a large variety in one day though, but I do get a good variety over time. To cut back on waste, I started buying less of a variety of fresh produce each shopping trip to make sure that I used up what I did…
  • Sorry, I should've noted that at the bolded activity level, if I upped my calories to around 2,000-2,200, I probably would've landed between 115 and 120 pounds. I never tested it out bc my appetite held pretty steady, even with the increased activity. I'd have to make a deliberate effort to average a higher calorie level.…
  • This kale/chard/white bean thing that I made for lunch yesterday. I served it over pasta. It was tasty yesterday but even better today! I'm definitely making that again.
  • Well, I would. :) I get the little cheeseburger (27g protein) and with the toppings I use, it's in the 600's. I often eat that calorie-level for dinner even when my calories are restricted for weight loss, so I don't consider it that high and it's a good amount of protein. "Healthy," which I'd define as a nutrient-rich…
  • Mmm, that sounds good. How do you make that?
  • Breakfast: Homemade cheeseburger. (French press coffee with milk while preparing burger.) Lunch: Fage cherry yogurt with sliced almonds. Dinner: Pasta with kale, chard, and white beans with EVOO and parmesan cheese. I might add a fried egg on top.
