Anything that has the word "chunk" in it

Now that is interesting. I also have UC and yes,I invariably flare after the flu shot. I assume it's because the shot makes your immune system more active which is the last thing we need - the meds I'm on are designed to suppress my immune system. I still get the shot because - I have found to my cost - a dose of flu also…

I've been wondering about that- it's bad then ?

Definitely try whey protein isolate - I've switched to that and now have very few problems  Edit : at first I thought it was still causing problems but think it just took my gut a while to calm down. No problems now.

OK,thank you. I'm thinking I probably will need to invest in a rack at some point!
-
Interesting! Would you say the program you mention is better than strong lifts? As I've just started SL but,as I'm doing it at home with no rack ,I've had to adapt some of the moves so I can do them with dumbbells. I do the deadlift with a barbell but don't feel safe using it with the other moves without a rack .

I am always over on fats and protein and under on carbs. As said above,it's fine as long as your energy levels are ok and there is no medical reason to keep fat low.

My advice would be to take it slowly so you don't panic and get tempted to drop again. As for eating when you're not hungry, try calorie dense foods like nut butters which won't fill you up,or drink your calories. You are very underweight - could you get some support and advice from a doctor or dietician?
-
Losing water weight should do it. I have to have regular colonoscopies which involve eating a low residue diet for 3 days and drinking only clear fluids for 24 hours as well as taking a preparation that cleans you out. Not suggesting anything as drastic, obviously! But I always drop at least one dress size though it quickly…

This is entirely anecdotal. I have a glass of wine or two most nights. I'm trying to gain weight so I don't worry too much about the calories but I do log it. Recently I had to cut out alcohol for 2 weeks as I was on antibiotics. I was taking in the same amount of calories as before but I lost weight during that period. It…

I've never eaten squid (because I can't stand the thought of it) and so far I've not had cancer. Therefore squid causes cancer.

Yeah - I find it harder in the summer too,and I'm by the sea so....seagulls! It's reassuring to know I'm not a freak. I've been looking up stuff about insomnia but to me,this isn't classic insomnia as I've no problem falling asleep.
-
Lol - I am retired too but can't shake the feeling that it's wrong to go back to bed! Thank you- I will try it x

This is definition of addiction taken from the American Society of Addiction: "Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry." People can be addicted to behaviours (eg gambling)as well as substances. So eating *could *be included in that. Personally I think the word…

Thanks. The lights outside our bathroom are pretty bright so I'll try dimming them .

To get back on topic....This ^^^^^

Also I don't get the people saying,I've never had the shot and I've never had the flu.
-
Yes,I've read that too. Last night I surpassed myself by waking at 4.30 after three and a half hours sleep - and I'd avoided napping in the day in the hope that I'd sleep longer at night. I'm officially at my wits end and planning to see the doctor this week!
-
You could just do bodyweight squats?
-
I found I have to eat a fair bit more than is suggested by mfp. And if you're an active nursing mother you probably need more than that. Try upping it by 250-300 and see if that makes a difference.
-
Ps and I'd suggest the unflavoured kind as flavoured ones might contain sweeteners which can cause digestive issues in some people.
-
I had issues with whey protein powder and switched to the isolate which is much better. It depends on your level of sensitivity;some people can't tolerate even small amounts.
-
Thanks. There are days when I think I'm too tired to work out but I do it anyway - I don't know how much it affects it as I've nothing to compare it with. Thanks and it helps that I'm not the only one and to know you're progressing.
-
Have a look at the "most helpful posts "at the top of this forum which will give you ideas about calorie dense foods and lifting programmes. Are you weighing and logging your food and exercise?
-
Great attitude ,and thank you - you've made me feel better about it! Like you I'm OK on 6 hours (on 5 hours I am tired but not so tired that I can't work out) I've reset my calorie goal so it's around 100 lower. I'm near my goal anyway so it won't hurt to slow down a little. I'm also reassured ,after doing a bit of…

My understanding is that although it contains amino acids,it's not a " complete" protein. Still ,if the op can't tolerate lactose based shakes then gelatin is probably a good substitute
-
It's been happening since I started gaining. I do sometimes nap during the day but it's counterproductive because if I nap,I just sleep less at night. I'm concerned about the long term effects but not sure what to do about it- I can't force myself to sleep!
-
I don't think gelatin has protein in it but I could be wrong. Quinoa is a source of protein and generally ok for people with wheat intolerance. Are you able to eat nuts? And you can buy soya based yoghurt,or lactose free yoghurt, though it's not cheap!
-
So,last night I tried just delaying my bedtime. Went to bed at midnight and still only slept 5 hours but waking at 5.30 is a hell of a lot better than 3.30. I'd still like to know though;does getting less sleep affect muscle growth? As everything I've read, including on here, suggests that getting 7-8 hours sleep is crucial…

Fair enough!
