I knew someone was going to say something like that. The thing is, if we were designed to eat in excess whenever there's an abundance of food, the majority of people in the developing countries that don't actively and constantly restrict their intake would be overweight and would continue to gain weight. I assume you live…

Many of my friends are like that. They are barely interested in food and only think about it when they get hungry. I'm so jealous! I'm almost obsessed with food and think about it most of the time. It's depressing. If I could somehow find a way to not be so fixated on it! All the extra time and headspace I would get and…

Yeah, it's really exhausting sometimes to be honest. I feel like I can never relax. Like, I can't just grab an apple without thinking and eat it when I'm hungry. I should take out my scale, weight it, make sure it fits into my goal, then log the number before I forget. It sort of takes the enjoyment out of eating the…

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah, I know that many people are literally miserable without BC. Part of why I was prescribed BC was very painful periods and I know they will come back. But it sounds like there weren't as bad as yours. It's been a year since I've been thinking of going off of it. At some point I just…

Yeah I had pretty painful periods before I went on the pill so I'm not looking forward to get that back and possibly even being worse the first months... Now that you've mentioned it, I do sort of feel foggy a lot and I often wondered if that's how everyone feels or if it's just me. I didn't know it could be cause by the…

Thanks you for your replies! It is so reassuring to hear that now everyone gets those side affects! I was beginning to have an impression that 80-90% of people develop acne and lose hair from what I've heard from friends or read online. And that weight gain is super common. But you are right people who experienced no…

Hmm, this is interesting. I often notice myself having difficulty exercising or feeling overall lethargic, but I've been attributing it to my hormones, or BC, because I was convinced that with a deficit that small, it's not possible that it can affect my energy levels that much. But you're the second person I see on this…

I'm currently trying to slightly lower the amount of exercise I do to see how it will affect my hunger levels. I've been at my current activity level (moderate to high) for a very long time and I'm thinking I may not realize that the calories I earn from it are less than what is necessary to satisfy the increase in hunger…

Yeah, I'm often wondering if my level of hunger is "normal". Especially on those bottomless pit days. I'm considering trying to go off the pill to see if it changes anything. If it doesn't then yes, you're right, I might need to reassess my goal weight.
-
No, no, thanks for advice. I was just tired of hearing the same eat-more-protein/fat/fiber-drink-water type of advice. But you said a few things that got me thinking. If I assume that my activity level will be the same at goal weight I am eating at or slightly under my goal weight maintenance most days. But the question is…

Yeah, that's kind of what I've been doing. I'm using my fitbit to estimate my TDEE every day (and I know it's estimates are accurate because I've tracking my weight on two spreadsheets for several months) and I have no choice but to track religiously. This way I end up having a 0.5-1.5lb net loss a month. But like the…

Actually, there are several official medical websites that list artificial sweeteners as bladder irritants that can make you pee more. The person you're referring to said artificial sweeteners cannot make you produce more urine in themselves. He didn't say they can't irrate your bladder, which can in turn decrease the…

I have a fitbit Charge 2 (so it has a HR monitor function) and I tracked my intake/TDEE/weight on 2 different spreadsheets for 4 months and my fitbit's TDEE estimates are spot-on! But I use "TDEE - intake" method to track my deficit, it just seems clearer to me. I can't seem to sync my fitbit to mfp anyway. Mfp always…

I drink right up before going to bed. I drink quite a lot in general. It's a habit I developed in part while losing weight - every time I felt hungry I would drink something - carbonated water or tea etc. Also drinking a lot with meals helps to feel full faster. And now I'm so used to it that I feel thirsty if I don't.…

Hmm, this is interesting. Waking up more than once to pee at night is actually considered as a condition called nocturia and from what I what I've read about it, it's not really treatable. It can only be slightly improved by drinking less in the evening and training the bladder to hold more urine by gradually extending the…

Thanks for your input and for the tips. I was actually considering starting doing pelvic floor strengthening exercises. And I should try adding potassium salt and more regular salt to my diet to see if it helps.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I don't understand whey you got woo'd for simply saying you think you noticed a connection between something. Like, yeah I get that pseudo-science hate around artificial sweeteners that is so prevent in public discourse these days is annoying but saying that you notice that some…

Thanks for taking your time for such a detailed answer. I am annoyed by the whole artificial sweetener hate based on nothing except for "they are chemicalz". This is why I've been using them to sweetened pretty much everything for years. I understand that logically it doesn't make much sense that they could cause in…

So nobody else besides OP has issues with frequent urination due to artificial sweeteners? For years I've struggled with frequent urination, and especially at night it's an issue (I wake up 2-4 times to pee at night), but doctors says I'm fine. So I was just attributing it to drinking a lot in general and thinking it's…

I'm losing slightly less than 2 pounds per month. It requires a lot of patience and the margin of error is much smaller than with faster loss. And one can easily undo weeks of progress in a day or 2 (which I already did couple of times and it's incredibly frustrating). But I can't sustain a bigger deficit for long. I end…

I tried having a huge lunch that day, with like 3 burger patties, so lots of fat and lots of protein, but it still doesn't do the trick. Lately I've been overeating by 1000(!) calories EVERY day of this crazy hunger streak so 200 extra calories for a week won't save me. I'm thinking I just need to suffer through it. The…

I use them because like you I can't afford my own and I leave in a big city. They are quite heavy and not very comfortable as others have stated (though I imagine it depends a lot of the bike service you choose), but still it's a fun and new way to get some exercise in while also getting to see more of the city you leave…

If there's a chance you see this, I have a question: did you really mean low thyroid? I thought increased appetite was a symptom of hyperthyroidism, not hypothyroidism. Or am I mistaken?

Hey, I know this over 3 years old, but I am suffering from the same problem and I've been searching for similar topics and I stumbled upon this one and to be honest, it's as if I have written every word! So if there's a chance you may see this I was just wondering if you have found a solution? Because it seems to be…

Yeah, I'm actually starting to think that maybe the best way to deal with this hunger is to just "starve it out" so to speak. Because if I still feel hungry after eating an entire fridge and if I still spend all of my energy and focus on resisting the desire to keep eating, what's the point? I may as well stick to my…

I feel like I could have written this, OP. In fact I stumbled upon this post because I was searching for posts on this topic. The only difference is that I'm not sure the periods of unsatiable hunger are cycle-related or not, because 1). I take oral contraceptives and am not supposed to have a menstrual cycle in the normal…

Thanks that's very helpful!

I'm having the exact same problem with my fitbit. It logs a ridiculously high number of calories as exercise. I have no idea how to fix it though. I just use the TDEE method (track my TDEE using my fitbit, subtract my MFP-calculated intake and get my deficit), but it would be nice to be able to synk them properly to see…
-
Yes, this is odd. Those numbers matching exactly is just a coincidence. Yesterday, I ate 2054, burned 2454 according to fitbit. Exactly 400 deficit. So 150cals under the goal deficit of 250cal. But MFP says I should have eaten 983 calories more instead of 150 cals more. 833 cal difference between my and MFP calculations.…

Thank you both so much for taking your time to explain all of it. I have a better understanding of how the adjustments are made now. But I still have the same problem. I doubled checked everything and mfp goal is set to lose 0.5lb per week. I changed my activity to active, though people say it doesn't really matter in the…
