Did you recently change to "clean eating?" I assume that means more fruit, veggies, fiber rich foods. If so, remember it takes time for your gut microbiome to adjust to digesting and processing new foods, especially larger amounts of fiber. In general, it's best to make drastic changes slowly. If you went from few veggies…

Adjust you expectations if 1200 doesn't work for you. I am exponentially happier at 1600, so it works fine for me to lose a bit slower and not be focused on food every single waking minute. There's nothing worse than stressing to lose that 2 lbs per week you want and then gaining it all back because you're so hungry you…

If it were me, I wouldn't skip lunch, it will make me overeat dinner. And if you're drinking alcohol on the weekends with friends too, maybe drop that? I'd rather spend my calories on food. I second the obvious advice - protein that isn't fried, sauce on the side, steamed veggies and soups are great, sushi (if you can…

You can pick up nonfat instant milk powder in the baking aisle of large grocery stores. Use it like protein powder. It's less expensive, but also less protein, and harder to dissolve in some things. I used to add it to my oatmeal. But really, a good protein powder is worth the cost if you can budget for it - do research to…

Hi Sarah! Have you changed what you eat drastically? Or started exercising a lot? If you set your calories too low, reduced a macro too low (protein/fat/carbs) or are not eating back at least some of your exercise calories you may want to change that. Losing weight should not be tiring/stressful/painful.

"Failure is an event, not a person." - Zig Ziglar Failing at some objective just gives me a reason to try again, or try a different way. Also, spite is a great motivator for me. Tell me I'll never be able to do a thing and I'll do it just to spite you!

Do you feel the same way about glasses? Or would you rather total your car or hit a pedestrian when you can't see well enough to drive because you don't want to see an eye doc? You're damaging your health and happiness - if your thyroid levels are off you're probably miserable due to a variety of symptoms. Medication is…

Unless you have a medical condition like diabetes, there are no "good" or "bad" carbs. Some carbs do offer different benefits - fruits and vegetables often have fiber or micro-nutrients, chocolate cake improves my mood. Balance what you want to eat with what fits in your calories - I have a veggie rich salad with dinner…

You can do it! Yo-yoing people often try for fast or extreme weightloss, so if that's you, try to moderate your goals this time. Stick to smaller calorie deficits and slower weight loss while building permanent lifestyle and eating habit changes. It shouldn't be stressful/exhausting/painful to lose weight or get more fit.…

A digital food scale that weighs in grams is essential. As is weighing all solid food and accurately measuring calorie dense liquids. Finding accurate records in the database takes practice too. Even if your meds are balanced, you must also measure your food accurately.

My mother regularly led my grandmother through a variety of exercises like the ones on this site when she used a wheelchair. It's a place to start to at least get your activity level up a bit and improve flexibility. nhs.uk/Livewell/fitness/Pages/sitting-exercises-for-older-people.aspx There are sites for serious strength…

Any kind of movement is better than none. One of the Kinect fitness games is better than anything sedentary. If I could afford it I'd be tempted, just because I loathe exercising in public. Of course, you'd want to pair it with tracking your calories, a food scale, and probably some other exercise for variety as well.

Yeah, portion control is tough. I picked up an excellent pizza tonight, and when I got it home I immediately stuck most of it in the freezer so I can't eat more than I planned. Fortunately, unlike chain pizza, it reheats deliciously in the oven :) Occasional pizza dinners for a couple of weeks! Before, I would have eaten…

I'm sorry if I came off snarky! The perils of posting when tired, that wasn't my intention. I'm glad you've found an exercise system that helps with your stress.
-
Edit- don't stress too much about going over calories if logging is new. If it puts you over, maybe next time eat 4, stick a couple in the fridge and see if you're still hungry in ten or so minutes. Or go for a walk after dinner to offset one wing. Enjoy your dinner!

Estimating like that is bad for me, I come up with all kinds of reasons why something isn't "really" that many calories. You can do it either way, but if you do it often and your weight creeps up I'd quit trimming calorie values and see if it helps your results. Don't forget to add in the wing sauce, too :)

Yep! Rejoined a week or so ago. I'm taking the turtle route - slow and steady.

Today is always the best day to start. Good luck!

Congratulations on deciding to get back on track! I'm back on MFP myself after a couple of years off where I regained everything I lost. Pretty much everybody here has backslid at one point or another. Stepping on that lying scale and doing something about it is the important part. Slow progress is better than no progress.

Sorry you've had a rough year. My multiple-job student workers like this free ebook for cheap recipes and shopping tips: https://cookbooks.leannebrown.com/good-and-cheap.pdf For calories, make sure you're choosing the more calorie dense options - whole milk, full fat cheeses, less-lean meats (which are often cheaper -…

Well, Tabata was created by Professor Izumi Tabata for Olympic speed skaters and is in no way applicable or doable by the general population. Most people doing "Tabata" are doing some variety of HIIT or 20/10 intervals. Do you enjoy it? Are you sure you want to combine that with a stressful job? Wouldn't you rather do…

Congratulations on the wedding! You have plenty of time! If I were you I wouldn't try to set an arbitrary weight goal or lose too fast. Weddings are stressful enough, you don't want to go into one in bad health from crash dieting. Plus you don't want to pay to have a dress resized either way right before the wedding. I'm…

For social stuff, just try to plan lower calorie options before you go. Look at a menu for lower calorie entrees (it's not always salads!), have an appetizer instead of a meal, split an entree with a friend, go for lower calorie drinks if you drink alcohol. To help you track food, I strongly recommend you get a digital…

I keep my calorie limit high enough that I'm not tempted to binge. I'd rather lose weight slowly than keep dropping & regaining. I am also firmly in the "eat whatever you want within your calories" camp. Though I do make sure I get enough protein every day.

Maybe try one of the portable pedal exercisers? Do some research though to find a sturdy reliable one used for physical therapy. Like this: https://amazon.com/dp/B00W46YILA?psc=1 My mom has mobility issues (severe arthritis) and the senior center near her has a heated pool that is the only way she can really exercise. Some…

Is a flat stomach attainable? Sure if you remove a few internal organs. And never eat a full meal at a time. We're conditioned by extremely thin models to think flat=normal/ideal, when really, it's not. You can work on strength training and core exercises, but even with that you might have to lower body fat to unhealthy…

Sure, I just work it into my calories. Usually I only want dessert 3-4 times a week though. A handful of Trader Joe mini peanut butter cups, half a pint of halo top, a piece of baklava, a brownie, a few Thin Mints in cookie season (those I have to freeze to keep from eating them all at once).
