It just feels like I'm going to be jumped karate kid style :D

I'd have to disagree and say it correlates more to peak physical maturity, especially for men that seem to top out in their mid 20s. Peak knowledge and skillset might be a different thing entirely, but raw performance definitely correlates to stage of life. After men hit 30 we slowly lose speed and strength. We can lift…

A friend invited me to come try it out. I liked it, and stayed.

25. This is a young man's game. I'm just there for fun and fulfillment.

Good choice.

Core an apple and stuff the middle with anything you want (sugar free syrup, some almonds, peaches, whatever, literally anything), then put it in foil and toss it in the oven.

At my school if they can behave long enough and do their best they get the belt. We have unfortunately low standards for the kids. For the adults too sometimes. The school I go to, you literally get out what you put in, because if you don't put in, no one will force you.

We've done so many warm up combinations I couldn't even begin to list them all out lol. My instructor likes to do a lot of line drills. An example might be: Sprint to the other side and back a few times Chamber leg a few times Round house a couple times axe/stretch kick a couple times Jump kick in the middle Then finish…

Last Wednesday I was the only one who showed up for adult class, so I got to work on advanced techniques that are more appropriate for my belt level. Made me happy, and gives me new things to try when sparring. We went over: body body body body head combos Lead leg head kicks Spin hook head kicks Lead leg hook head kicks…

It's a challenge, and each lead instructor I know tackles it a bit differently. One thing that bothers me greatly is when it's not enough curriculum and more just busy work and fun. The kids are there because they NEED the structure usually.

Milestone. Once I hit black belt that's when I get access to the special training classes and fight in the more serious divisions.

i hate the mirrors.... I don't wanna see my stomach jiggling like jelly when I do forms. Very demotivating LOL

This was awesome. Towards the end I feel like you really stepped it up and started using her head like a punching bag :) Very long fight, you did great! It wasn't clear who won though. Did you take it?

I never heard the term Fartleks before, interesting. Read up on it and it sounds like most HIIT sprinting protocols. Thanks!

People who don't spar or fight don't realize the incredible amount of energy it takes. Boxers who go 12 rounds are incredible. Sparring will wipe out your full day's energy in 2 minutes when the adrenaline is pumping.

I only had one match. The wait was ridiculously long they were FOUR hours behind schedule. I sparred against another red belt who was 2" taller and 10 years younger, but we spent so much time waiting that we became friends. First round was very close, 10-8 his favor, second round I lost at 22-17 My classmates and…

Absolutely this too!

NYC has some of the best and most varied ethnic foods on the planet. That's probably the biggest aspect I miss too. Every time I go down there for recreation it turns into a food tour.

Well yeah, NYC is one of the only places with real white castles! I grew up in NYC so it is like "home" to get sick off little square burgers

Try sports massage, make sure you're drinking plenty of water, and getting a good balance of salt and potassium. For me it's my hamstrings and traps that always lock up like that.

Large open mat. Heavy bag stations that can be lowered from the ceiling. Lots of targets and training gear, stadium seating for the parents, proper changing rooms, and a starbucks :)
-
And I'm just over here like, "Let's go to white castle after the tournament"

I hope I can get better pics (or video) this time around!!! Hopefully there will be enough people there that someone will record on their phone. Turns out this is turning into a big deal, and our grand master is even going to come down. I have this feeling I'll be eating korean food for dinner afterwards.

I just found out today, that yes, I will have head kicks in my division. There's also going to be a whole slew of us going down. Both glad and nervous that head kicks are opened up in my division. It's a good thing because I'm tall and extremely flexible, but slow. And the competition in NYC can get a bit fierce. Hopefully…

Sounds weird but I feel like a month is too short for most of my goals, especially as they related to tae kwon do. I need to improve my form when roundhousing to the head. I need to make sure I'm hitting with my heel when doing thrusting kicks. I need to get better at spinning and making sure I'm on the ball of my foot. I…

I love teaching too, but much prefer teaching computer science and math lol.

I'm trying pretty hard to stay a student and I'm not even at black belt yet. Fortunately helping and teaching has the side effect of reinforcing your own skills. It's also a huge honor to be respected enough that you are trusted to help pass down knowledge. The past few weeks in particular I've done a huge amount of…

Interestingly enough, I've always been able to do a full split. I don't know why. I've had times in the past I've stretched growing up, but never consistently or strongly. Seems to be pretty rare for us adults to be able to do.

We end class by giving stripes to each student, going over the upcoming schedule, and paying respect. For the kids they also receive extra stripes for completing tasks at home that their parents sign off on.

Not a lot of youngin's seem to use MFP in general. They're too busying on their snapgrams and facespaces
