soreness comes with beginning to run. make sure you warm up properly and go SLOW....your NOT aiming to do 5K in 30 minutes so go SLOW....barely above walking pace. any day you feel your too sore for running, jump on the elliptical

Elliptical is awesome to use, especially if your sore from running! Just make sure to turn the resistance up to a level where you have to make an effort

comments here and there from work colleagues and family

just go slow.....don't worry about speed at all. take long deep breaths to regulate breathing.....I take a big inhale through nose hold for a second or two then exhale slowly out of mouth.

I've struggled with anxiety most of my adult life and like you, hated the thought of joining a gym. Eventually I mustered up the courage and told myself to "man up"!! Its quite daunting when you first walk in but I PROMISE YOU after 20 - 30 mins your anxieties will be forgotten. Go for it!!

can't believe the difference 24 lbs makes.....well done you

Same thing happened to me! Google proper running form so that your not over striding, you have a good cadence and most importantly, your not going too fast. Warming up and cooling down is also essential
-
don't focus on how fast or slow your doing it, just concentrate on doing it. Go slower and repeat if you have to

I was 230 when I started running. Had a few injury's but they were my own fault......going too fast and overstriding. Just take your time, run and walk method works really well
-
watched Hacksaw Ridge yesterday.......superb film although a little slow to begin with.
-
chained to a desk here too! I do a 10 minute walk before work if the traffic isn't too bad and I'm early and also a 10 minute walk at lunch.

unfortunately there are major idiots in this world. try not to let these idiots get to you and maybe next time, stick a finger or 2 up at them
-
Yes I keep my strides really short.....in fact when I look at others on the treadmill, their legs are going much further out than mine. I always make a conscious effort with this so don't think stride is the issue. I also try and land mid to forefoot but hasn't made difference.
-
I'm in exactly the same position.....my legs (mainly front upper thigh) get so sore afterwards that I cant run again for maybe a week. I slowed right down to 4.6mph but didn't make a difference. Unfortunately there are no specialist running shops near me for gait analysis or proper shoes....maybe that's the cause?

just wanted to repeat what others are saying....slow down! I started running at 5.5mph and soon developed an injury which prevented me from running for a few months. I now run at around 4.7mph and managed several 5K's at this pace
-
awesome run. just make sure you don't go too fast. Keep the pace down and run for longer

walking and swimming
