I was actually mentioning this to my husband the other day. I don't know if more people are taking up smoking or if the stigma attached to smoking is decreasing because of the increasing popularity of legalized marijuana and so they just don't hide it as much anymore.

There are quite a few good plant sources of protein without soy. If you're into protein powders, there's brown rice, pea, and hemp. I prefer 'meal-type' food and I'm lazy as *kitten* with cooking, so I go with this brand called Field Roast. I don't think any of their products use soy. They use vital wheat gluten for the…

Since you're a tad underweight, have you thought about gaining a few lbs? I was in a similar position once, but gaining 10 lbs caused me to look more proportionate because the weight went to my upper body. If you train with heavy weights and eat enough over your TDEE to gain about a lb a week, you'll start seeing good…

I won't bother getting concerned over one reading then. My daughter is surprisingly a big meat eater. Now me on the other hand...I am all about the 'carbalicious'. :p

This is a really eye-opening link. Makes it sound like practically if the wind blows, glucose can be swayed. :D Helps me see how insignificant one barely-above-normal glucose reading can be.

The doctor wasn't concerned, didn't even mention it to me when I asked if everything looked okay. It was only after the visit when I printed out the results for my own record keeping that I noticed 101 was considered above normal.

Spinach is very good in mushroom soup/broth.

Having doctors suggest a plant-based diet to patients and offering a choice of non-meat meals while in the hospital sounds perfectly reasonable. It's not like going plant-based means vegan or even vegetarian, just means making more plant food choices and less animal-based ones. And it's about time hospitals give patients a…

Where are you getting your information? I eat over 300g of carbs a day (some days over 400g) and am losing weight just fine.

I was a binger for decades (since childhood). My self-esteem was tied to my eating. Restrict and resist food=I am worthy. Binge and lack of control=I deserve to die. Then I got into weight lifting several months ago. The focus became on what my body could accomplish and how I needed to fuel it properly to see muscle…

I weigh usually every day, but only record it once a month. The one I record is the one that counts. The other weigh ins are just for curiosity's sake. The scale is a fun tool. I like finding out how certain foods and intakes affect my weight. Though if it ever becomes emotional, I'd stop weighing daily in a heartbeat.

I used to beat myself up mentally for 'slip ups'. I'd feel so defeated, I'd binge later on in the day because, hey, why not? I already 'blew it' for the day. Then I got into weight lifting. What a game changer. Instead of focusing on eating as little as possible and what I weighed on the scale, I now think in terms of…

Those people are either blind or jealous. You looked good in that picture. Definitely not too skinny. Not even close.

According to this article, a high HDL may not necessarily be a good thing. (Took me by surprise.)

How long did you stay at 1,700 calories a day? Increasing from such a low intake of 1,200 may cause a temporary increase in body weight, but it'll level off in a few weeks or so. Your body composition will be better off in the long run if you stick with that increase in calories while continuing a solid lifting program.

Curvy versus chunky, perhaps?

At the urging of family and friends, I saw a chiropractor regularly for several years (actually tried 3 because they were each "highly recommended"). None of them ever helped me. I really wanted to believe, especially when so many people around me are claiming all these miracle results. But all I got was lighter in the…

What would be the purpose for accepting one's excess fat? It makes no sense to actively join a cause that celebrates a health hazard, one that 99.9% of us certainly have the power to change. Imagine if drug addicts marched with signs like 'Every drug is a good drug' and 'My body sores are beautiful'. Health problems are…

Do what feels right for your body. Others may have opinions, but at the end of the day you're in charge of your own aesthetics. Plus, with so many overweight and obese people now, society's general view of weight has really been skewed (in the wrong direction!). I'm 5'4" and my goal is 110 lbs. I used to be that weight…

Another thought is that the junk food you were eating before could've had improperly labeled macros. I don't know if there are newer guidelines, but below is what I found on the FDA's website. Looks like packaged food can be labeled as having fewer calories than they actually have. Maybe you were actually eating more…

If this isn't a gimmick to sell diet pills, then here's some advice: slow down with the weight loss. Unless you have 200+ lbs to lose and your health is being majorly affected, you want quality loss, not quantity. Preserving muscle as much as possible will make things easier down the line.

Of course! At the same time, though, your son's teacher has a right to do what works best in her classroom. That is the reality of sending your child to school (whether public or private). She was not wrong to say that Pop Tarts are unhealthy. I hope she explained that they're unhealthy compared to x, y, z foods because…

American culture is weird. Only thing that should matter is the quality of the massage, not the gender of the person giving it. But if it was going to matter, you'd think people would pick the male over the female because of strength assumptions and getting a deeper massage.

Not vegan, but forever trying. If you're looking for a good "meaty" type recipe, you won't regret Russell Simmons' seitan BBQ ribs. I didn't even have canola oil on hand (just put a little extra bbq sauce on the bottom) or soy sauce (used tamari sauce instead) and it still came out good. Make sure you cook it long enough…

I occasionally do 2-week water fasts and don't even lose near that. I'm curious, are you taking diuretics?
-
The only thing you're guaranteed to lose with diet pills and fat burners is your money. Caffeinated coffee is supposed to suppress appetite and increased energy. Why not try drinking a cup or two of that instead?

3 hrs, 50 minutes.

Best wishes on your journey. I've gone vegan in the past but stopped because my husband and kids are big meat eaters and I got tired of them teasing me for my choices. I still eat mostly plants, but I need to recommit because my conscious doesn't feel right eating any amount of animal products. If you're seeking to get…

I'm not vegan, but eat a lot of plant foods. Beans (including soybeans) are my to-go for protein. They're cheap and can be used so many different ways. With the cold weather right now I've been making a big batch of bean and vegetable soup for the week. Every batch is a little different with ingredients, but usually offers…

Odd. I tried doing apple cider vinegar for weight loss before and it gave me heartburn. Oh and for anyone wondering, no, it didn't work for weight loss. Just made me feel sick to my stomach (but not sick enough to keep me from eating tasty foods, lol).
