I will usually eat some carbs before a workout, usually a fruit such as a banana or apple. This way I have some simple sugars in my system that can be broken down during my workout and turned into energy. Like a lot of people have said, it's more about total macronutrients, the meal timing is a personal preference.

Emphasis on planks. Planks are beautiful. Additionally, I would not recommend working your core exclusively. Could result from low blood circulation. Try stretching after to help get blood flowing throughout your body. If you're exercising outdoors or in cool temperatures, wear some warmer clothing and stretch as well.

Planks, twists, crunches, push ups, pull ups, dips, mountain climbers, leg raises, dorsal raises... Then do more planks.

I like to do excessive amounts of planks. Keep it HardCore.

All depends on your personal goals. If you feel you've achieved a flat stomach and you just want to tone up, do it. As long as you maintain a healthy diet and continue to work out regularly towards a defined goal (toning in your case), your body will maintain a healthy weight.

Life would be way too easy if there was a "healthiest diet". It all depends on your goals and whatever you consider to be "healthy".

Damn that's rough. I can't imagine how hard that is. However, like someone else said, after such a loss I agree that you're capable of anything. My inspiration is Eminem, who said "You can do anything you set your mind to".

Illegal? Usually not. Weird? Sure, if that bothers you than use a stair climber. I've often done cardio workouts running up and down the 5 story parking garage at my university. Did I get some weird looks? Yeah, but I didn't feel bad 'cause those people were using the elevator to get from floor 1 to floor 2.
