Dani, what has, and is, helping me most on MFP is reading success stories and taking the tips from them that I feel will work best for me. It can be so overwhelming sometimes. Day by day, week by week, and month by month, your progress and successes will motivate and inspire you to keep going. There may be bad days, but…

I love the white chocolate raspberry Quest bars. Wal Mart carries a few flavors of Quest bars now, and they are a bit cheaper there.

Those little mini's (if they are the unwrapped ones) are only about 15 calories each. Work it into your daily calories if you can, and move on.
-
My favorite snacks are Turkey Jerky, Weight Watchers string cheese, and raw walnuts.
-
As others have said, cook your own food from scratch. Cook extra and divide it up into single serving portions and freeze for other meals. Packaged foods and restaurant food usually has added sodium and sugar.

Broccoli and cabbage family veggies are the ones that people complain about most where I work. They grilled steaks today at work. It is still cold here so they grilled in the garage, but it seeped into the building and has smelled like grilled steak since 11:30 this morning.

I am older (65) and growing up, my parents always had potato chips, popcorn, and hard candy (lemon drops or starlight peppermint) in the house. We did sit down to dinner every evening as a family and had home cooked meals. My parents went out to dinner about once per month, but never took us kids along. We never had pop in…

Agreed. But, not down the middle of the lane just to make a point that we have to share the road, this happens all the time where I live. And there is no reason to ride 2 or more bikes abreast when sharing the road with vehicles that are moving 55mph (or faster) without getting over in the lane (single file) to allow the…

I love it. I use in in recipes that call for rice and substitute it. It is so nutty, chewy and good! I make it like the OP suggested all the time. It is good hot, cold and plain. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Anything goes. yayamom3, if your grocery store has Bob's Red Mill products, look for it in that section. You can…

Yes. Everyday. I fit it into my calories, and plan for it.

I have no issue sharing the roadways with pedestrians, bikers etc. When driving, and there is not oncoming traffic, I will move over to give more room, and I appreciate when pedestrians and bikers do the same. Courtesy is a two way street, and while I do not bike, I do walk, on roads that have a 55 mph speed limit, and I…

Mash it up and put it on a piece of toast with a sliced hard boiled egg on top. Few drops of hot sauce.

Just curious tiny_clanger, how does it make you more likely to be in an accident wearing a helmet? I am not trying to be a jerk about this, I would really like to be educated about your reasoning for this. I realize that there may be a vision issue with certain types of helmets, but the design of them has greatly improved…
-
It is probably a good idea to have a helmet on. A lot of unforeseen things could happen even trail riding. Flat tire, stick in the spokes, deer, or other animal jumping out. Accidents happen.

Nothing really, just stay within calorie budget, and portion size. I don't eat much fast food anymore. Once in a while Subway Veggie delite with no cheese, so I guess fast food is what I have cut, but mostly because of high sodium in fast food.

Down 2.3 in a week is very good! Congratulations!

It may not be true for you, but it is true for me. I am eating whatever I want, in moderation, and have lost 27 pounds in 79 days. Because for whatever reason, people can not eat certain foods without eating too much, doesn't mean others can not eat whatever they want in moderation, and successfully lose weight. It IS all…

Could you point out where OP thinks CICO is "garbage advice"? Because I did not read that. People don't want to eat 1 slice of pizza, or a 1/4 of a plate of Loco Rice, or 7 chili cheese fries. They want to have a meal. If you eat the "right amount" of junk food to stay within your calorie limits, you're going to be…
-
And all I am saying is that IT ISN'T THE SAME FOR EVERYONE. And it isn't "garbage advice", which the OP is claiming, it is how people lose weight, eating less calories than their bodies burn.
-
No, of course it isn't, and I think that is the point of most of the responses. You can call it what you want, but losing weight is really just about eating less calories than your body burns. How you arrive at a calorie deficit is up to each of us, no matter how we get there, or what we call it. There is not "right" or…
-
You can do this! One day at a time. You are worth it! A lot of people will be cheering for each success!

You look pretty, and pretty smart to me with your helmet, OP. A close friend did the same thing (header over handlebars). Had the helmet on, which cracked when his head connected with the concrete curb. That was 4 years ago, and he is doing just fine because of wearing a helmet. A very important reminder for us all, and…

Distract yourself. Drink water. Go for a short walk. Read a book. Keep low calorie veggies prepped and on hand.
-
People can, and do, eat all foods in moderation, and lose weight. Because you, and others, may not be able to eat this way, doesn't mean that other people can not be successful. Your "advice isn't helpful in practice", for everyone. For me, it is better learning to eat in moderation and portion control, preparing myself…

Eat less calories than you burn to lose weight. How you choose to get there is up to each of us. The source is a pretty reputable publication, not The National Enquirer. No one can deny that being a normal weight is a lot healthier than being overweight. Being physically active is important for overall health, but not…

It all comes down to parenting, which many are reluctant to do. An 11 year old, very thin boy, who is reluctant to eat has issues coming from somewhere. Two parents that admitted having eating disorders. Where do you think at least part of the problem lies?
-
Well, for a lot of people, being fat may be considered an eating disorder too. And it is never ok to bully, for any reason. The OP does have a meeting scheduled with the principal and teacher. What I would be interested in finding out is whether she is going to seek professional help for her son. There is more to this than…

If it fits in your calories, go for it. Eggs are good for you!

LOL, you are not serious, right? I guess everything is relative and you are not in the US
