I love my job. I was working in an office doing commercial real estate appraisal and hating life, ironically about the same time as "Office Space" came out. I remember being in a bar with a good friend telling him how much I hated my job, and he casually mentioned that his brother was a firefighter. He suggested I try…

Reasonable, achievable goals are the way to go. Breaking them down with specific strategies makes it easier, I think. 5 pound in a month is a really good month...if all you wanted to do is lose 22 then you're well on your way! congrats!

http://www.active.com/running/articles/shin-splints-here-s-10-tips-for-staying-pain-free I found the best cure for mine was to stop running altogether and walk on an incline on the treadmill. Then as i felt better I would start doing 10 minute intervals on the treadmill...1 minute walk, 9 minute run for an hour. The next…

Have you considered going to a podiatrist or a physical therapist to have them analyze your walking gait?

you rock! Awesome job, keep it up!

When I go to the gym to lift weights specifically, it's almost always alone because I don't want to feel like I have to worry about anyone else's schedule. But I have been going to a lot of group fitness classes where the peer support and environment is really motivating and the camaraderie makes it a better and more fun…

For the last few days it's been shoveling snow as we've gathered about 30" in three days. Usually it's hockey, running, and mountain biking. I'm in a gym-averse phase now.

Yes. I tore my achilles twice and don't have much flexion on the right side, so using a 45 pound plate elevates my heel up enough to get a good knee bend that I otherwise wouldn't have.

Great work!! Very inspirational :)

I use a schosche "rhythm" monitor hooked up to the "icardio' app, which used to be digifit. The monitor is worn on an armband on my forearm, and I wear it to run, bike, and play hockey and haven't had it slide out of place. The only downside is you have to be within 100' of your phone to track it, so I leave it on the…

3 days is a pretty short time period to be asymptomatic; many professional athletes are out several weeks if not more after a serious concussion. Don't be discouraged if it's only been a few days. It's way better to error on the side of caution when you're dealing with developing brains and bodies. You should also be aware…

If you eat a calorie surplus above your TDEE, you will gain weight, regardless of what type of foods you are eating ("clean" or not). Do you believe otherwise?
I think if you trade crap foods for clean eats you will lose weight even if your net calories stay the same every day.
-
Setting aside whatever "clean meats" are, I happen to agree that it's good to be concerned about WHAT you eat. That -- plus wanting a reasonably accurate TDEE number when I'm logging -- is one of the big reasons I like to log my veg somewhat accurately (if I have to estimate a cup or whatever I do, but usually I'm chopping…

Okay, but that is false. If you eat clean meats and veggies and you're in an energy balance, you will not lose. If you eat them in a surplus, you will gain. Period.
If I understand what you are saying correctly, you are telling me that if I eat clean protein and veggies and the caloric intake is exactly what I…

I get where you're coming from...the old "3500 calories to lose a pound" thing that is beaten into our heads. I didn't believe it either until I lost 30 pounds in 2 months after undergoing a bunch of surgeries that had me basically sedentary for two years. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but try it. Pics don't tell…
