  • I seem to start every year (for the past 6-8) at "my heaviest ever". The cycle was getting regular. Start the new year at an all-time high, lose during the year, but start to put it back on during the holidays. Then an all-new high at new years. I am so sick to death of it. In September, something kicked me in the pants.…
  • How much are you trying to lose?
  • This kinda sounds like an Alanis Morisette song...
  • This. OP - You're not going to find whatever it is you are looking for here. I'd even hazard to say, it'll make things worse.
  • I track my calories weekly and I found it works better for me. I naturally have days I eat higher and days I eat lower, depending on what I have going on. It was too stressful to manage daily. As @toxikon said, get your weekly calorie amount and stay within that.
  • Everything you eat should be weighed/measured and logged. You can gain weight eating "healthy". All calories count.
  • Okay, wow. I've got to say this is one of the BEST threads I've read in along time. Way to go MFPers!! This is such an uplifting conversation! I kinda feel like a proud parent!! OP - SO glad you've seen the light!! You've got an awesome path ahead, with support here when you need it. Stick with it, good or bad.…
  • How long since you last lost weight?
  • You gotta do you though. YOU have to want to get back on track. No one can do that for you. You can find support, help, and advice on this site, but the work is on you. It's not easy and a lot of us here have gone through the struggles of getting started. I started January 1st this year and it sure wasn't easy. But I was…
  • Finished C25K a couple weeks back and now I'm on to longer runs and some interval training. For me, it was amazing. I went from sucking wind jogging 90 seconds straight to running 32 minutes straight (currently) and feeling good at the end. I highly recommend it. Others have mentioned to go slow. That's important. The…
  • You can't spot reduce where the fat is lost. To lose around the waist, you need to lose overall. It'll come off where your body is genetically dispositioned. Some people lose at the waist faster (that's me), some hips/thighs (totally not me), some in the upper body.
  • Cut off a leg? 4 pounds in a week is impossible unless you do things that are highly NOT recommended. Tough love part is, should have started a few months ago. Best of luck though.
  • That "position" though is the calorie deficit needed for weight loss. So, if you can eat 2000 calories a day to maintain and want to lose a pound a week, you eat 1500 per day. That's your MFP goal. If you exercise for 500 calories, netting you 1000 calories, eating another 500 gets you back to that 1500 daily target to…
  • How have you done this week eating-wise? Were you a little under some days? I look at my calories on a weekly basis. If I want to have a couple beers, I might eat 100 calories under for a couple few days to bank for the occasion. Can't deprive yourself for this to work long term, so go out and enjoy the atmosphere and the…

  • MFP is designed for you to eat back your exercise calories. Your goal is 1530, yet you've only net eaten 891 after exercise. MFP method would say you need to eat 784 calories to get to your 1530 goal. Now, a couple things. How did the 784 calorie burn get calculated? Most methods are an overestimation. The general…
  • Getting older has made it harder for me to lose for sure. Are you really tight on your food logging? Using a scale for solids, cups/spoons for liquids? Many, many times people are eating more than they think, so they either don't lose (you found your maintenance!) or they gain. FWIW, as long as you create that calorie…
  • Calories eaten - calories burned. Did you log 784 calories in exercise?
  • This frightens me, yet I can't stop looking at it.
  • But who wore it better?
  • And there goes any focus I had at work for the rest of the day.....
  • Wait, if I changed it to something like this, then I might get lots of FR's I can ignore!!
  • How can I make my profile picture faker?
  • Gotta log or I'll not stay in check. Been doing it for years and years, so it's a regular thing for me now. As others have said, it takes some planning. It's the only way I've been successful to lose weight. But, with that being said, it's not a one size fits all. You gotta find what works best for you!
  • Isn't it awesome!?! I love to eat, not gonna lie! So to know that we can lose weight AND still eat a decent amount is so cool. And don't forget to eat those "fun" foods. Just factor them into your day! I'm having beers and likely nachos tonight. And I'll make it fit. Deprivation is where I have failed in the past. This is…
  • Yuuuup. Last place for me right now. Genetics are a lovely thing!
  • OP - How long did it take to lose the 9 pounds?
  • OP - For reference, I'm 5'4" with about 15 pounds to lose. I'm eating 1600-1800 calories a day and averaging about .5 to .75 pounds lost per week. (And most importantly I'm not starving! LOL!) I burn around 1700 calories on a lazier day and 2300 calories on an active day. Bumping up those calories some will help I think,…
  • Where's that Easy Mac thread?
  • Wow! This is almost exactly me too!! OP - If you think it's honestly a problem, then stopping it likely the way to go. But if it's the social aspect (like it is for me), that's a hard habit to break. I'm down to one or two moderate days a week now, but it took a lot of discipline to get there. I LOVE craft beers, but at…
