Have lots of pre-planned snacks ready, and don’t try to be perfect. Remember that even though it feels like life with a baby should be back to predictable/normal, it really isn’t. I’m not sure when family life becomes completely predictable again, and my youngest is 6 years old! I still get thrown for a loop and my plan…

What are your stats (height, current weight, goal weight)? Sixteen pounds in less than 7 weeks is pretty fast, though many people lose extra the first couple of weeks from water. Chances are that you’ve set a deficit that’s too aggressive to be sustainable long term. You might need a smaller deficit in order to stick with…

Wow, did you also have a parent who worked for IBM? We had a pc jr, because ibm practically gave them away to employees after they bombed.

Well done to everyone with their successes! I’ve taken another break because this winter has really kicked my asthmatic butt. Even when I haven’t felt sick I’ve needed my fast-acting inhaler.

I just decided that I’m fine with going slowly. I’ve got my deficit set to .5 pound/week (about .25kg). I was miserable at a 500 calorie deficit, and I’d much rather take twice as long and not be miserable.

I weigh daily and use a weight trending app that gives me a moving average number and a graph of today’s moving average vs 30 days earlier. I try not to get hung up on whether I’m on goal any particular day (or week, even).

I have sympathy for what you’re going through-it’s hard to watch someone you care about harm themselves, but especially if there have recently been issues between you and your MiL, she’s going to take anything you say as sour grapes or you trying to sabotage her. If she’s just started, maybe take solace that she’s likely…

Uh, mfp doesn’t dictate what ads you see. Your browsing history does. Or you have malware.

Well done!

When I was 7 my parents took in a 2 year old foster kid. The first dinner he ate with us I was bored and poked holes in my (disposable, empty) water cup. Like the lazy kid I was, I left it on the table after dinner. My mother thought it belonged to my foster brother and refilled it for him. He was so excited when he ran to…

What can I say? I was just the right angsty teen age when the series came out.

I retain water at ovulation and lose the water weight just before my period starts. That’s why I have my Happy Scale app set to compare my moving average weight from 30 days prior instead of the default 1 week.
-
My people! I’ve lost 48 pounds over the past 2 years. Every time I decide to try for a steeper deficit, I end up stressing about food constantly and binge after a few weeks.

Definitely talk to your pulmonologist to develop an action plan. You don’t have to exercise to lose weight, and losing weight may help your asthma symptoms by itself.
-
Ah. I meant your base activity level-sedentary, lightly active, etc. I thought I was sedentary, but I’m actually lightly active and would be undereaing if I set my level to sedentary and didn’t eat back exercise calories. That said, if you’re not losing weight and feeling hungry and tired, it may be that the food you’re…

Me! I took a very long maintenance break this fall, and decided I was going to jump back in at a 500 calorie deficit for 8 weeks. I spent the first week constantly hungry, grumpy, and thinking about food, even with plenty of the vegetables and fruits I love filling my stomach. I went back to the 250 calorie deficit that…

Well done! W2d3 down. I had to trick myself into it by telling myself I only had to walk, not run.
-
My class was canceled so I went after my meeting. My weather app promised the rain would hold off for an hour. I was laughing my *kitten* off as I texted my husband a selfie of me running soaking wet.
-
That’s great! I finished week 1. I have to figure out when I can run tomorrow-I forgot how packed my day is. I’ll make it work, even if it’s running in place at home between my class and kid pickup.

Thanks all! Despite being labeled firm, this Costco stuff is actually more what I would consider medium and very crumbly. I’m going to try it as a ground beef replacement in chilli. Annoyingly, because it’s so crumbly I won’t be able to cut it up for the little one’s lunch-with the way he treats his lunchbox, it would be…

I don’t stay away from carbs, but one easy to pack lunch is a spinach salad with chicken breast, sunflower seeds for crunch, and I usually add orange slices, apple slices, or dried cranberries, but you can skip those. I have a separate small container with a lazy balsamic vinaigrette (balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, and…

Definitely talk with a cardiologist if you haven’t already. My mother has had PAD since her 50’s. The number one thing her cardiologist recommended (for her, YMMV, this is not medical advice!) is to increase her walking in order to build subsidiary blood vessels around the blocked vessel. My mom isn’t listening to her…

W1d2 down, in the wet!

Well done-that feeling is so wonderful! I'm re-starting the C25k. I finished it last summer, and kept up with running for a few months, but stopped running in late fall when I got sick and things got hectic. W1D1 down!
-
Another vote for Couch to 5k! After trying and giving up 3 or 4 times, I finally finished C25K last year. What was most helpful to me was joining the C25K group here and slowing way down (seriously, I can walk faster than I jog). I'm re-doing the C25K this year because I stopped running when I got sick and life got hectic,…

I have hypothyroidism, and when my synthroid dose is correct I lose weight as predicted by MFP. If you haven’t been tested for a while, especially if you’ve gained a significant amount of weight since the last time you were tested, or are having symptoms, it’s a good idea to see your doctor to check your levels. Losing or…

If we evolved to eat one low-carb meal per day, why do the fastest growing humans, newborns, eat high sugar, low protein meals up to 12 times per day?

Tofu cauliflower curry and tofu stir fries are favorites here-I particularly like those because it’s easy to adjust flavors to each person’s taste. Burritos with refried beans are good and easy. And my family’s favorite lazy vegetarian dinner is rotini with garbanzo beans.

I’m pretty sure I was never extreme, but I’m cutting back right now and trying to find my caffeine happy place. Too much caffeine in the morning makes me crash in the afternoon, and any after about 1p makes me sleep poorly. Right now I have an espresso when I wake up and a bottle or can of Coke Zero with lunch. I was up to…

Saying yes when my 5 year old asks me to play lava monster or my 11 year old asks me to play tag, biking to pick up my 5 year old from school, biking to the grocery store and Walgreens when what I need will fit in my saddle bag.
