  • I've heard the same but I've also heard people say it's absolutely fine to make it a near 100% replacement as well. I guess the biggest concern is your stomach and other digestive muscles starting to atrophy if doing it long term. I'd still eat solids after trying it 24/7 for month to see what it's like.
  • I heard the same thing and was really unsure at first. I guess they had started using algal (spelling?) flour which caused a lot of poor reactions in many folks. They took it out and people have been fine since.
  • A serving would be a cup. I could get the cheapest frozen veggies that are just carrots, and green beans to save money but then it's the issue of adequate nutrition. The price would be just under a dollar for a cup of that stuff. I'm not eligible for assistance and with our regions food banks struggling to keep up with the…
  • For sure! I'll hopefully be getting some very soon after I get back from a business trip or maybe before than to see what it's like to take a break from Soylent for two weeks after a month of the stuff. I'd like to get it as quickly as possible to try this experiment! I think it's going to save me a lot of time and money…
  • Eggs are $6.36/dozen, chicken on sale is typically $5.99/lb, ground beef is $4.99/lb, frozen veggies are typically $3/serving size, rice is cheap and so is bread and pasta but I don't get all the nutrition I need eating such a limited nutrition diet. Eating like that costs me about $8-10 dollars a day to not quite make all…
  • I can eat the same things, day in, day out without much hassle.
  • Oh, heavens, I couldn't afford to eat like that. The biggest thing I cannot afford is meat and fruits and veggies (other than turnip, carrots, and potatoes for most meals). Soylent works out to be cheaper than buying food where I live.
  • I can see how this sort of thing would not work for everyone and have read reviews complaining of the same thing. The stuff would work in a pinch though if you didn't like eating breakfast or don't have time during lunch. There is a whole DIY community that tries to spice the drink up. I can eat the same thing day in, day…
  • I'm thinking about it actually. I need to save up the money to place an order as I was sick and missed some work but I'm thinking of starting sometime in April. I would like to have blood work done before starting the diet and blood work done a month in as well.
  • I'd like to make it as close to 100% as possible. I will probably drink soylent on days I work and on days off add things like fruit or veggies, or going out to eat once in a while. I may supplement with a vitamin as well if I'm not drinking the recommended 2000 cals a day as I am trying to lose weight.
  • Unfortunately, people are not FDA approved. ;P
  • Absolutely, may as well try jumping on board and getting use to it before that happens. ;P
  • I'm not a huge fan of soy either but I'm willing to give this a go. The potassium is insane!
  • I honestly understand this really well. I share meals with someone that eats junk or really well prepared food. I'm not a good cook yet so it's been *kitten* tough. Shop sales and don't experiment with meals until your comfortable with staple dishes because you may just end up wasting food.
  • So scary. If I developed an eating disorder like anorexia, they'd probably not even mind unless I was outside of a normal weight range.
  • I am so glad to hear all this. I've dealt with some really ignorant doctors about weight, diet, and nutrition. The latest was my doctor wanted me to lose 100 lbs in roughly two months. I've had other doctors applauding 500 or less calorie restriction diets I put myself through because "look at how much weight you lost,…
  • Start small. Potatoes are super cheap and you can do a lot more with them. Slice them and back them to replace fries. Just bake them plain and you've got yourself a lovely baked potato. A 5+lb bag of potatoes is less than $5 typically. Potatoes are not the best food, but it is a start and cheaper than ramen usually, more…
  • It is related. I don't feel very female but that is ultimately what my body is. I've noticed that the more active I am the less cold I feel but as soon as I stop moving I'm freezing again shortly after. At this point I'm going to bring it up with my doctor and see what he thinks.
  • Thanks everyone for the advice! I think I know what's wrong and I just need to get up and move. I don't feel cold all the time, at one job where I'm constantly moving I'm only chilled, at home where I work on art for hours on end while drinking cold water I'm freezing. Hypothyroidism doesn't help either, even while on…
  • I'm on average about 50 grams of fat. I had my thyroid checked this month. I have hypothyroidism but my levels are all fine.
  • I'm just using MFP's levels. Turns out I didn't know what my maintenance level was at all. I guess I need 2770 cals to maintain, and I'm currently eating at 1800 cals. That number has now gone down as my 12 lbs of weight loss was finally recognized. So I have a 1000cal deficit roughly. So back to feeling cold since…
  • I just calculated my deficit and it's between 200-300 calories a day. That isn't very large.
  • I hope so! I just haven't lost a lot yet so I'm a bit concerned.
  • I'm eating 1800 calories a day on average. That is enough of a deficit to lose 2 lbs a week which doesn't seem like a lot. I do have hypothyroid (treated and levels are fine) so that may play a part?
  • I should do that when it isn't so late. Thanks!
  • Just made an update on the post but here they are again! Stats: Age, 25 Female 7 days at 1800 cals a day, staying within macro's most days, lots of protein, some days too much sodium Moderate exercise (30 minutes walking, 3-4 days) 340 lbs start 327.6 lbs currently
  • Hey John! I should have definitely mentioned my past weight loss experiences as I have tons! All unsuccessful in the end, but I did gain knowledge along the way so it wasn't a complete fail. I've tried weight watchers when I was around 12 years old at the advice of my doctor. Lost 10 lbs in a couple of weeks than plateaued…
