February 7th, 1 hour and 10 minutes on the cycle trainer. February 8th, 1 hour and 15 minutes on the cycle trainer. A good start on my 5 hours per week.

I didn't care for that lack of water resistance either, but would have been OK with it, had I not had other issues with the Surge. A good device overall though, I think I just had bad luck!

Been a lifetime cyclist, including a Cat 3 racer in the 70's and 80's (yep I am an old geezer) and have completed the Ironman triathlon 3 times. Currently I do about 5 hours of spin classes per week. Once the springtime arrives, I'll be out on the trails on the mountain bike. I gave up road riding 3 years ago when I hit…

I bought myself a Garmin VivoActive HR at the beginning of the year, after having problems with 2 FitBit Surge devices. So far I love it. I downloaded a hiking app to keep track of that activity, and I log my bike spin classes and treadmill work as well. Once the weather improves, I'll get into my trail running with it…

Yesterday was a good day exercise-wise, I had 1-1/2 hours of hiking up a local mountain and then a bike spin class in the evening. I have a doctor appointment later next week so hoping she will be happy with my progress since my last visit in December. The hardest part of all this has been battling the desire to get on the…

Thanks for starting the spreadsheet. I have joined and had been tracking my progress using my Garmin VivoActive. I know my goals and progress may seem aggressive, but I am OK with that. I am doing some pretty intense activity each day and my caloric intake has been in the vicinity of 1200 - 1400 per day. I am 68 years old…

My Vivoactive HR seems pretty accurate with calorie calculations, at least from what I have seen. Yesterday I did a 4+ mile hike that included over 1,200 feet of elevation gain. It took me about 1 hour and 40 minutes and the calorie burn came out at about 680. Seems reasonably close to me.

Congrats on the great progress and keep up the good work!

I had a FitBit Surge that quit working after about a month. I returned it and got another. That one lasted for about 8 months and then the menu button refused to work correctly. I could only bring up one activity. After this frustration, I wasn't about to go to round #3, so I've been using a Garmin VivoActive HR for the…

I was a competitive swimmer in high school, then a bicycle racer in the years after that. So it naturally fell that as I got older I should try getting into triathlons. The trouble is, I am a painfully slow runner and it is my least favorite event. I pushed myself through triathlons, starting with short ones, and over…

Follow what Obeg says above, he nails it on every point. And do your first race just for the enjoyment and the exercise, not the outcome. There is plenty of time to get competitive down the road. I just compete with myself and don't worry what others are doing in relation to me. Have fun and see how addicting it is. I love…

Honestly, I hike, bike and run and they make an app for each one, but I've always gotten away with picking one and using it for whatever activity you're into. If you do more than one thing, you just have to remember to set the type of activity before you start out. I haven't used the Map My Fitness app, but the cycling,…

I did my first Ironman at age 57. Next goal is to run up Mt Washington in NH. I completed this race in 1980, again in 2005 and now at age 68 I want to try it again. mtwashingtonautoroad.com/mount-washington-road-race

Excellent advice. This was how I broke up the Ironman into manageable segments. Get through the swim, split the bike into 2 loops, break up the marathon into 5 mile sections. Don't even think about the end goal until you are at least 75% of the way through. Enjoy the climb!

I had PF a couple of times, especially when I was training to do an Ironman. It just would not go away. I tried all of those exercises with rollers, golf balls, stretching etc and nothing worked. I finally bit the bullet and had a cortisone shot in my foot and within 2 weeks I was back to normal. Be aware that this is…

On my back. Waited until I was over 50 to get my first one, now I have over a dozen, all of pin-up girl images, mostly from the 1940's.
