  • Rice. Holy crap. Now I know how I packed on the pounds after my celiac diagnosis.
  • I switched to diet, and I still have that (since it mixes well with rum  ) but at work they have a Bevi that dispenses flavored plain or sparkling water, and now I am hooked on seltzer.
  • Yeah, I knew I had native ancestry on my mom's side, but it turned out there was some significant contribution from my dad's side, as well. Also I have less Neanderthal than much of the rest of the population? Still not sure how accurate that is, when I first joined they originally told me I had MORE Neanderthal than most…
  • 23andMe runs your DNA through a bunch of microarrays looking for Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) and other markers, and checks those against a database of known markers and the stuff they are correlated with. I mainly did it for ancestry information, which was pretty neat. They also have a ton of surveys if you want…
  • Tried conch, didn't care for it much. Best thing might have been this Szechuan fish soup in Shanghai. Man, that was tasty...just frustrating because I was hungry and I couldn't just chow down because the fish was FULL of bones.
  • Because I found out my mother was talking behind my back about how chunky I'd gotten and it pissed me off!
  • 41 with two daughters, ages 12 and 11. I work but in the mornings before getting the kids off to school, I try to squeeze in some exercise -- cardio 3x a week and weights 2-3x a week. I also walk to the train station and in the afternoons, I walk from work back to the train station in the city to catch my train home. I can…
  • Yeah, I definitely got lucky with the diagnosis and with the very first antidepressant I was given, a very low dose of Prozac which worked immediately and well. But I'm very aware that for many people, they have to try lots of different medications to find the right one. Some folks never do, sadly. There's just so much we…
  • Handful of nuts or trail mix. Apple with almond butter. String cheese. Sometimes I'll just have a glass of lowfat milk.
  • I didn't either. I was working out every day and I just became more and more depressed. I was also spending longer and longer in the bathroom. Finally my husband begged me to see my doctor. I went on antidepressants, which helped, but I was also diagnosed with celiac disease, which was something of a surprise. Three and a…
  • I love white wine and I love rum, but with only 1200 calories in a day...sorry but I love food more, lol. Trying to keep my consumption low and maybe just on the weekend.
  • Same. It's actually pretty easy if you just quit eating at 8pm and then skip breakfast the next morning. By the time you get to lunch at noon, it's been 16 hours.
  • The gluten-free ones suck, unfortunately, so I don't eat Girl Scout cookies anymore.
  • Bit of a long shot and I am no expert, but...do you have any food intolerances? Could it be possible that inflammation is playing a role here? Have you tried an allergist or doing a food elimination?
  • Yes! I bought two pairs of Chaps pants in size 4P. One pair fit like they were made for me, the other pair I couldn't even button! I bought a pair from Levi's online according to their size chart after taking my measurements, and though they were preshrunk, they were HUGE and I had to send them back! I am just about ready…
  • I'm in a pretty similar boat as you, I think. I never worried much about my weight in the past -- seemed like I could eat whatever and I pretty much stayed the same size. Then I discovered I had celiac disease. Three years later, I'm much healthier from that, but I'm definitely fatter. I'm trying to get ahead of it before…
