On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I do the 30-minute circuit at Planet Fitness. What annoys me are the folks who come in and use the machines in the circuit room when there is a full gym out there with the same equipment. It's bad enough when they jump in for one set and leave, but as many mentioned by many, some folks camp…

I think it's safe to say we were all afraid of failing at one time or another. Thing is, so long as you keep trying, you're never failing. That said, I agree with vespiquenn. Make small changes, but also celebrate small victories. Set attainable goals. Yes, 140 is your ultimate goal, but how about increments? Or fitness…

I was having the same issue - they either flatten or give me a uniboob. BUT I just bought a couple Fila Sport Running bras on clearance at Kohl's only $12 each. They are AWESOME! I'm a 36D - 38C. I love thrift stores and Goodwill in particular, but I'd be leery of buying sports bras there. They lose elasticity and you may…

I notice I'm pretty hungry on Mondays which follow my long-run Sundays. I think it's because I burn so many calories on that run (usually around 1,300) that my body is still trying to make up for it even the next day. Maybe try for more protein and/or fiber to help you feel fuller longer. Keep plenty of veggies on hand.…

I lost 60 pounds in my early 40s and have maintained the loss for a couple years now. I don't know if it's harder or not (as I didn't try then), but it seems many who found it "easy" to lose weight in their younger days are back now doing it again. In fact, some for the third, fourth, fifth time. Maybe being easy isn't…

I've never felt like a natural runner either. I have a very short stride and efforts to change that all end badly. Now, when someone criticizes my running form, I ask if they'd like to join me on my long run Sundays (which are 10+ miles). That usually quiets them pretty quick. Also, due a childhood injury, breathing…

The same here. I remember when 12 or 13 minute miles were a struggle for me. Now, I consistently run 9:30 miles and some days I they feel like a struggle. Lately I've been hitting the high 8s and I definitely accuse my app of lying to me.

Do you have to choose one or the other? I run (usually outside) a few days a week and use an elliptical a couple days as well. It's nice to do both as sort of cross training. If buying and I could only get one, I think the treadmill because it is more flexible - run, walk, hills, fast, slow. The elliptical has levels and…

Meetup is a great place to find hiking/walking groups. I belong to two different hiking groups in the Raleigh/Durham area. Good luck on finding the right group for you - or, you can start your own.

I also went the biotin route - shampoo and a biotin supplement. Seems to help. Then, yesterday, my doc suggests I likely have hypothyroidism. Of course I do. I battled my weight for 40 years. I finally get it under control a couple years ago and develop hypothyroidism...

@qweck3 I also used water to help curb my appetite while I was losing. Even now a couple years into maintenance, I still try for 10 cups a day. Great advice.

I'm positive you can do this! But I agree with most - you need more calories. Scooby's calorie calculator is a good source for BMR and TDEE... http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

I read the thread AND her diary. I guess she could have discovered the allergy last week. Either way, my suggestion doesn't revolve around her eating eggs.

She has them in her diary already -- 3 April for lunch.

Mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, dry cereal, licorice, yogurt for sweets and popcorn, rice snacks, pickles and pretzel sticks dipped in hummus for savory. But, I agree with the indulge now and then suggestion as well.

Don't be ashamed. Many here have been where you are. Though you have quite a few food challenges, I see you do eat potatoes and eggs and chicken and vegetables. Those are all good choices that can be filling and at least here in the US are mostly affordable. Maybe adjust your goal to lose 1 pound a week until you work out…

I love food too much to give it up for two days. I would think any weight lost this way would be gained back pretty quick.

I am exactly the same weight today as I was when I joined the Air Force 27 years ago -- 138. But oh, what a ride it's been in between. :s I am 5'3.5 and very happy at the tippy top of my "normal" BMI range (24.1).

Hey all! I'm 46. I lost 50 pounds and have been maintaining about 2 years now. I am and always have been a big eater. Sometimes maintenance is way harder than losing.
-
Yay!! I've done the brown sugar straight from bag thing too. So, does that make us both weird? LOL

Cake - I second the love for buttercream icing. You can keep that whipped stuff. But mostly, I feel like I crave salt. Not really a particular food, but salt in general. Usually satisfied by pretzel sticks or saltine crackers.

Speed is a very subjective thing. I'm also 5'3" and outside of races, I do three runs a week. Twice for time (one hour) and once for distance (10 miles). When I started, I was lucky to make 15-minute miles, now I run consistently in the mid-9s. I didn't try to get faster, it just came over time. For me, this is MY pace. My…

THIS!! It seems so many get wrapped up in that one number that any variation sets them off. My weight can fluctuate 5 pounds in one day! I have a 5-pound maintenance range. Don't panic. It will be a process to see what works for you in maintenance just as it was to find what works for you when losing. Be willing to adjust…

Like everyone else, I have running shoes for running only. In fact, I have 2 pair which I rotate (One Asics, one Brooks at the moment). I run about 25 miles a week over 3 days. When those shoes are no longer suitable for running they become gym shoes for the elliptical and circuits I do a couple times a week or hiking…
-
I run for 60 minutes twice (sometimes three times) a week then for distance - 10 miles - once a week. I also cross train with elliptical and circuits three days a week.
-
I have mini marshmallows and mini chocolate chips (150-200 calories) almost every night.

No HYE been skydiving?

Well, I am surrounded by North Carolina State Troopers - they definitely get my vote!

I belong to Planet Fitness. I love it. For $10 a month, you can't beat it. If you are looking for a pool, daycare, big classes or free weights, you will have to look elsewhere. But, for cardio machines and weight machines and various circuits (mine has 30-minute step/machine circuit and a 12-minute ab circuits). For $20,…
