  • This is one of the most boldly honest posts I've seen here or anywhere. Thank you for sharing <3
  • This also happened to me. I started on Calorie Count and then moved here, but along the way I learned a ton of stuff without even trying. It becomes kind of a game for me, to balance everything out, meet my macros, make sure I get enough vitamins and minerals in there too. Even cooking is that way as well. What can I put…
  • My Dad had cholesterol issues into his 70's in spite of not being overweight and eating what, at the time, would have been considered a healthy diet. Some red meat, more poultry, some packaged foods, more traditional Canadian vegetables like carrots and corn, the odd fast food meal etc. He ended up on medication for the…
  • Which is essentially what I said. All commercial enterprises exist to make money so yes, some are driven to sell us as much cheap, sugar laden, sweet treats as possible. Their job isn't just to sell you what you want, but to create the want to begin with, through advertising, social media, hype, phony "news" articles and…
  • Better question. Is sarcasm usually beneficial or detrimental to a discussion thread?
  • I first did Stronglifts 5 or 6 years ago, in a calorie deficit, and lost around 15 lbs in a little over 4 months. I gained strength and looked great B) I also did a half hour or so on the treadmill after each lifting session. It can work for you, go for it!
  • What they said ^^^, because it works. B)
  • That could be because that's not stevia, it's maltodextrin first, stevia second ingredient. I'd give stevia another try, but this time look for a pure stevia extract. It'll likely be a little more expensive but a little goes a long, long, long way. Less than a teaspoon is equivalent to an entire cup of sugar. For those…
  • I'm sorry for your loss. My solution is canning and freezing. I make larger batches of soups and stews, usually 3-7 litres, and then can them in 500ml jars so they are available when I need them. Other stuff I freeze in individual or double servings, pre-measured and labeled. For example, I make up a batch of quinoa with a…
  • You're likely going to have to eat a good amount of animal proteins and/or protein powders to get to that protein goal on a consistent basis with those macros. Beans, quinoa and other plant based proteins help but they come with a lot of carbs as well which tends to push your macros out of balance or really limit what you…
  • I've tried skipping breakfast to do an intermittent fast a few times and I was fine but I'm not in weight loss mode so I never miss breakfast. I feel better eating 400-600 calories in the morning. Work can sometimes be physically and mentally exhausting and having that fuel in the tank gets me through to early afternoon at…
  • Have you tried this and how was it? I'm not in weight loss mode but I might try it just because I'm chill like that B) . I'd probably add a carrot in there to sweeten it up a bit.
  • Update on my post above ^^^. I was late getting to my workout today as usual on Monday and the two bars I had stashed in my lunchbox really came in handy B)
  • I've used this recipe or slight variations of it with success. https://plantbasedcookingshow.com/2016/07/10/salt-oil-sugar-gluten-free-vegan-brownies/
  • Today was workout day and I had a ton of calories left after dinner so I mounded up two of them with some Sylt Hjorntron from Ikea in between and 2 tbsp of maple syrup on top. Crazy good. Nice to have the cake part of the dessert lower in calories and high in protein so I can add more maple syrup!
  • Made them last night and tried a thin slice this morning. Very soft and a good peanut butter taste. I made a half batch and I'll cut it into 8 I think, which gives me 130 calories and 10g of protein. I used quinoa flour and a combination of pea and hemp protein and had to add some more cashew milk to get it the right…
  • They turned out pretty good. Had one for breakfast dessert. My version (2% yogurt and maple syrup) was 90 calories with 10g of protein. Very moist and soft, not much peanut butter taste so I'd probably leave that out and go for a bit more cocoa but overall a very nice alternative to cakes made with flour.
  • It's in the oven, Chocolate Peanut Butter version. I don't have chocolate syrup so I used pure maple syrup. It didn't seem liquid enough to me, maybe because I used a combination of pea and hemp protein (no whey on hand) so I thinned it out with about a half cup of cashew milk. I probably won't try it until tomorrow. I'll…
  • Looks good. I might just give that a spin today. Question. Is the frosting kind of sourish with only plain greek yogurt and the whey? Have you tried adding a bit of sweetener like stevia or something else?
  • This one is especially funny: Myth 7: Sugary foods are a food industry plot to get us hooked on cheap ingredients The idea that we are controlled by the food industry is as bad as the idea that we are controlled by sugar. Nobody is piling our shopping trolleys with sweet treats but us. Sure, it's a myth that the food…
  • That's not a recipe, it's a list of ingredients. What are you supposed to do with them?
  • 4-5 tbsp of which stevia? The white pure extract? Some other kind?
  • You didn't use the word "Cadbury" in your search did you? :D
  • I avoid most processed, packaged, prepared meal type foods as a rule which means I avoid all the artificial colours, flavours, additives, preservatives and unpronouncable chemical compounds contained in many packaged meals or dishes. I prefer my own cooking to slop made on an assembly line anyway. I don't eat soy at all…
  • When I was losing weight I weighed in every morning and it was remarkably consistent and predictable. Now that I'm on maintenance I don't weight myself on any regular basis but end up on the scale once a week or so just to let it know I'm still around.
  • I thought I might feel that way which is why I avoided counting calories until recently. Once I started counting it became a personal challenge for me to meet my calorie goals and feel satiated after and between meals. My focus switched to trying to be creative with my food choices rather than focusing on what I was…
  • This also works well for me. The nuts are a great example. I crush them up and have a couple of jars of them in the fridge at all times. Rather than eat a few almonds by themselves, I put them on desserts or on my morning cereal to enhance the flavour and texture of the whole bowl. Much more satisfying for me that way.
  • I like it simple when it comes to food. The biggest T-bone known to man, cooked over a wood fire to medium rare. My own home made, oven roasted, sweet potato fries. A couple of pounds of spanish onions, sauteed in grass fed butter. A side of butter drizzled, still crispy asparagus. For dessert, probably a big slice of 7…
  • Not sure how that's overstating it. If someone eats 150g of protein a day vs. say 75g protein per day on a high carb diet, that's a thermogenic effect of nearly 8 pounds lost in a year for making no calorie sacrifices at all. That's pretty significant to me.
  • Post of the year right there :D You could copy/paste this to a significant number of threads here at MFP and it would fit right in B)
