  • I was just pricing a Foreman grill on Amazon and am seriously considering it.
  • lol, I was already coming up with different poaching liquids. I always have wine, garlic, and a ridiculous collection of herbs and spices. Getting creative with combinations will be fun. Commercial stock isn't really in my toolbelt for reasons of sodium and general disappointing flavor, and I don't think I'm ready to start…
  • Thanks for your help everyone! I do think I'm going to obtain a grill pan, since I was wanting one even in vegetarian mode, and I'm going to experiment with poaching the chicken. I think if it's not a rolling boil it shouldn't get too tough.
  • Roasted makes a lot of sense to me, and it's what I do when I'm doing food prep for multiple days, but it's too slow for a weekday dinner for me. I've never even used my crockpot because I am a spontaneous cook. I'm already pushing my patience by planning two meals a day ahead of time, I don't think I could handle all…
  • I have been skeptical about boiling, steaming, and microwave options because there's no opportunity for Maillard, but I could probably be convinced. How is the flavor when they're boiled?
  • I can't have a real grill but I have been considering a grill pan for my stove for a while. That's a good idea!
  • I'm doing my C25K on a treadmill! For me, it's easier than road running, but I'm okay with that--for now. I'm working on building stamina right now, and being able to set a predetermined pace is a huge help for me because no matter how slow I try to go, I always end up speeding up. Eventually I'll have to work on that, but…
  • Starting weight: 281.6 lbs (04 Feb 2017) Current weight: 226.0 lbs (12 Jul 2017) Total loss: 55.6 lbs Loss last week: 4.4 lbs (A week ago today had a spike in weight, so this isn't really that meaningful.) Goal loss rate: 1 lb per week (MFP kcal goal is set to 2 lbs per week) Next milestone: 75 lbs lost (25 Nov 2017…
  • I run in Lem's Primal II, and I adore them. There's enough sole to protect me from unexpected rocks, but little enough cushioning that I can feel the road. I did very little running before I switched to minimal shoes, so I didn't have a very steep learning curve. I understand that runners transitioning from traditional…
  • Frozen bagels are unknown to me. Are they fresh bagels that people freeze for storage, or are they a frozen product?
  • I go for 5 days without concern assuming it's packaged properly and reheated thoroughly, but I have been accused of having an iron stomach. I definitely go longer than most.
  • I didn't interpret either of your comments as snarky, but I certainly wondered why you posted the same opinion twice two weeks apart.
  • Thanks for asking! Today will be my third W4D1, but yes, it is getting easier. Good thing I'm not in a hurry; I have a little under seven months before my deadline of running 5k without walk breaks. I think even I will be able to do that! EDIT: The deadline is February 2 2018, which will be the one-year anniversary of the…
  • I reeeally want to try the jackfruit pulled 'pork' everyone's been going on about for the last year or two. It looks phenomenal.
  • Recipes are overrated. Keep your fridge and pantry stocked with ingredients you like, and make whatever sounds good when it's time for lunch!
  • Nobody's put it in yet, that means you get to do it yourself so that from now on whoever scans that barcode doesn't have to! Happens all the time when you use new, imported, or small-batch products. It's not hard and only takes a minute. That's how MFP's database got so huge!
  • A fluctuation of less than three pounds in two days is not cause for concern, especially considering you used different scales. This is water and the contents of your gi system. And, likely, the scales themselves. Don't worry, you're fine.
  • What are your faves? Any subgenres you're partial to?
  • It's a problem, but it's hardly unique to queer men. This is just a slightly different flavor of the same toxic body-image issue that plagues the rest of society. And it's not going anywhere without a huge cultural shift. I'm beginning to see small signs, but until the "traditionally attractive" crowd gets on board, it…
  • I responded in the blog post with the two things I do to try to counteract those feelings, though it's hardly anything new or groundbreaking. I do think it's important to remember that the closer one is to their goal weight, the slower and/or more difficult the weight loss goes. So a slowdown is probable, but it is also a…
  • Sometimes I prelog meals that I have made ahead of time, which would be my breakfasts and lunches for workdays. Dinners and days off are unplanned, so that wouldn't work for me.
  • I'm new to running, but all the research I've done indicates that you should work on either speed or endurance, but not both at the same time. So, as the others have said, slow down for now to work on your endurance. Once you have it where you want it, you can speed up gradually.
  • I managed to do both 5 minute intervals of W4 for the first time! I did extend the walking intervals a little, but I did the running bit as written, so I'm just going to repeat W4 until I get it as written 3 times in a row.
  • You can lose weight just fine while eating whatever the heck you want, as long as you're not exceeding your calorie goal. Nutrition is a whole other ballgame, of course, but just for weight loss? Pizza and ice cream and beer and whatever strikes your fancy! I've lost almost 60 pounds so far, and haven't cut a single thing…
  • I was tested with both a buffet for lunch and dinner at my mother's house yesterday, and I didn't overeat at either! I don't actually know many calories I ate, but I feel great about my choices and restraint. Major NSV for me.
  • Nice. Thanks, everyone! I had a feeling this was a case of incorrect assumptions on my part.
  • If I'm in my calorie goal, then it's a win, regardless of whether I ate the most nutritional food possible. Occasionally I'll let myself have a 'cheat' or 'splurge' day where I either don't track calories or don't work to stay under calorie goal. But you know what? Even on splurge days, I eat less and better than I did…
  • During the week, I go after work. Usually ends up being about 5:00 or 6:00 PM. On Sunday I usually go in the late morning or midday. The gym is usually pretty quiet then, it's very nice.
  • In my opinion, it's important to find physical activities that you do enjoy. When I started trying to lose weight, I did it with diet only. That's the most important thing, obviously, but then I started adding walks just to burn some calories to earn some more food. I started feeling much better after I added some activity…
