As an alternative to throwing oversized clothes in the trash, if they're in ok condition maybe donate them to a local charity? Over the past 6 months or so, I've sent about 40 lbs of clothes to one of the charities here. Cleared out all my closets, got rid of anything too big, or too not-my-style-anymore.

IMHO there's nothing wrong with a little obsession, unless / until it starts to negatively affect your life. I would call myself obsessed with getting in shape. If I wasn't obsessed, I would likely have quit / given up months ago. I wouldn't have done my cardio workouts the past 405 days in a row, or checked in here and…

That's fantastic progress @pitbullmamaliz! You look great!

Congrats on the size 2 @CRZYFTM! I have a couple wins to share this morning! On my morning walk today and it hit me that I've gone the past couple weeks without needing pain killers when I go to bed. I've got arthritis in my lower back, which I believe was caused when I was 18 and I broke my back skydiving. I wasn't…

I tried something new today - I made a steak tartare. I've never had it before but I saw them make it on a cooking show and it looked pretty good. It's sort of akin to a tuna salad or a chicken salad, but with lean, raw beef. I used a lean beef tenderloin, diced it up to 1/4" pieces, and mixed with some olive oil mayo,…

Well done! That's a wonderful improvement in such a short time!

Thanks for all that info, @cstehansen! I had figured that the "31 cal / pound of body fat / day" was just an average and it might be higher for folks who are already very fat-adapted. As far as why my fast came apart on the 7th day, if it wasn't due to overtaxing my fat-burning metabolism, my #2 theory was electrolyte…

@Liadin123 Congrats on making it to day 5! That's something to be proud of! Did you look at the calculator on this web page? http://blog.2keto.com/why-fasting-is-easier-for-some-people/ Depending on your total weight / body fat percentage, maybe you need to 'supplement' the fast with a few grams of fat each day, to ensure…

@Liadin123 since ending the fast, my weekly weigh-ins have been +6, -11, +1, -6. So no, I don't believe I've had any weight regain. Crossing my fingers that it stays this way. FWIW I don't think I was retaining water during the fast, it was once I started eating again that the water all came on at once. I saw it referred…

Some folks can smell the acetone in their breath (or have a friend or loved one tell them...) or sometimes you can smell the acetoacetate in your urine. You can buy ketostix at the pharmacy and dip those in urine, they will detect the presence of acetoacetate. This is not always effective, for some (many?) people they…

I'm glad to hear that they do teach nutrition. I'm still not clear on how my cousin wouldn't 'grasp' that there's carbs in bread and potato salad though. Maybe it wasn't a requisite when she went through school. Or maybe it was long enough ago that she's forgotten.
-
MFP says you can eat back all your excercise calories, then it divides that out into your macros according to whatever your percentages are. I ignore that, myself. If you've paid for premium you can turn that 'feature' off.
-
It's on for $1.99 on Amazon.ca as well.
-
Ugh sorry you have to put up with that on an ongoing basis! One of my cousins is a nurse but clearly there's nothing about nutrition taught in nursing school. Last month my mum and I were visiting and my cousin surprised us with lunch. I'd already eaten, and she was offering everything high-carb, so I politely declined and…

I make a batch of low-carb bbq sauce almost every week. I start with home-made bone broth, but it can be made with store-bought broth as well. If you use purchased broth you need to add some xanthan gum to thicken it; bone broth thickens fine on its own. (Note the serving size is huge - this estimate is based on 8 servings…

Your body is adjusting. It can take a couple weeks for your body to make the shift from burning glucose to burning fat. Give it time. Alternatively, make sure you're not eating too many calories. LCHF has a lot of benefits but it's not magic. Some folks overdo the 'HF' part and that can slow down weight loss. In the…

I don't have any keto advice for you, I'm one of the lucky ones I guess who hasn't had any trouble going keto. I seem to be able to reach ketosis at a higher carb level too, like 30, 40, maybe even 50g and I'm still there. Have you tested for ketones at all? If not, you might already be hitting ketosis at a higher carb…

Thanks for the comments everyone! It was a blast! Unfortunately that photo probably captures the very moment I caught whatever virus I'm fighting now lol. The downside to being dunked in the same dirty water as 5000 other people. Less of a NSV but I'm not letting a cold stop me, even if it does slow me down a little bit.
-
On Saturday I had another 'adventure', something I'm scoring as an NSV because a year ago, before going LCHF, before doing daily cardio, I could never have done this. I never would have dreamed of doing something like this. My sister and I went to Wasaga Beach (on Georgian Bay) and did a fun-run / obstacle course called…

It looks like this is your first week on low carb / keto? Your diary only goes back 7 days. If so, then I wouldn't be too worried at this stage. It's not uncommon to lose this much in the first week. IIRC I lost 7 lbs in my first week. It is almost certainly primarily water in the initial week or so, and the loss will slow…

So, one week after I had the big shock on the scale, the bloating is gone, the extra water weight is gone, and I had a heck of a woosh -- though I am sure the majority of that was the water I was retaining last week. Last Sunday I was up 6 pounds and freaking out about it. This morning I am down 11 pounds and feeling silly…

I used mg because I mean milligrams. 3000 to 5000 milligrams is 3 to 5 grams.
-
I'm not an expert, but I'd say your prootein numbers look great to me. Sodium on the other hand does look a little low. They say you want to be between 3000 and 5000 mg of sodium every day. How's your water intake? You're getting enough to make sure you aren't dehydrated? FWIW I went through several days of feeling really…

Yeah, Phinney seemed more worried about refeeding syndrome. Fung mentions that a little, like 3 pages I think in his fasting book, but he claims it's almost never an issue for his patients, who are typically overweight or obese. He does say it's more of a concern for those who are already malnourished, underweight. Fung…

Thanks for sharing that @kpk54. It's funny, assuming he was referencing Dr. Fung, there's two doctors, both citing studies and references, and both giving opposite opinions on the subject. I've read Phinney & Voleks books, Art and Science of Low Carb Living and Low Carb Performance, as well as Fung's Obesity Code and…

My ankles aren't as swollen today but my weight is still higher than it was before I started the fast. I've been doing some reading and apparently post-fast edema is not common but it does happen. Something about the body becoming more sensitive to salt during the fast, then when you start eating and taking in salt…

Wow, congratulations!

Thanks @canadjineh! The ironic thing was I felt fantastic all weekend, just the unexpected gain on the scale really threw me. Cognative dissonance between feeling physically great while trying to figure out how a 6 lb gain was even possible. I noticed last night that my legs were really swollen, so I'm positive it's all…

I've had a pretty good July in most ways. I stretched myself and my limits with some different challenges, mental and physical, pushed myself work-out wise on the bike, and completed a full year of daily cardio. The only metric that came up short for me was weight. After a bunch of downs and an up, my net loss is only 2…

Aaaaagh I'm so upset and confused! My weekly weigh-in this morning, I'm up 6 pounds?! That's 2 pounds heavier than before I even started the fast. What the heck is going on? Could it be water? It has to be water I think? I haven't gone over my calorie goal at all, so I can't have eaten that much 'extra' food when I haven't…
