@CMorning99 re: not feeling right in the area of your late appendix: since having my ovary removed I have had weird sensations in that area of my gut - pretty sure it’s lingering nerve damage. They do have to cut their way in somehow. Hopefully no scissors in there!

Well, I’m still here, but given that the earliest appointment with a cardio they would give me is the 22nd and that I don’t know what is causing my tachycardia I don’t know what I’ll be doing. Goal is to somehow stay fit and earn enough calories to eat food over the holidays, while not dropping dead because that would be a…

Oops posted in the wrong challenge, sorry guys! Good luck to you!

Primary can’t see me either, and in any case wouldn’t be helpful. Same for urgent care. Urgent care is simply not qualified to treat anything with a complex history like lupus. They do the bare minimum and it doesn’t go well. They don’t have the equipment and can only do what’s already been done, which isn’t what’s needed.…

So, still having heart problems (constant pain and discomfort, volatile heart rate) which I still think are myocarditis based on what that has felt like in the past. Which is as good as it gets since the cardio office won’t give me an appointment until the 22nd of December. I’m considering going and standing in the parking…

I can see how the fibro and arthritis would start the ball rolling on the rest of the problems - pain and fatigue makes it so hard to exercise, and being sedentary raises lipids, bp, and the risk of diabetes. Sorry you are dealing with all this! I have lupus as well as diabetes and some experience exercising through…

No luck getting an appointment today - stayed on the phone for over an hour twice and couldn’t even get through to the office. It’s possible they were closed for the holiday although their website says they were open today.

Ran a very cautious mile Saturday night while keeping a close eye on my heart rate, and it seemed normal. Hoping to make an appointment Monday but not hopeful it will be soon, since I have recent experience with scheduling appointments at our local cardio clinic and it took my husband something like two weeks to get in,…

I looked it up and that is a very unusual deer! Not only is melanism rare in deer, in the photos I could find, none of the melanistic deer had a white throat, they were all solid black. So I was wondering if it was darker without being actually black, but all the darker colored deer I could find had lost the throat marking…

Pork loin is definitely an underrated low-cal star! One pork loin roasted in the oven can become sandwiches, steaks, and stir-fry for a week! I like to do a whole one then use it in different meals.

Yep, if Omicron is more transmissible but milder, it could be a blessing. Praying!

So happy Bear is home! I wonder whether some well-intentioned person “adopted” him then saw the flyer. Does he have a collar with a tag? I’m not sure contacting anyone would help with the hospital - the local and National news is already full of articles about how overloaded and burned out the health professionals are, and…

Trying to adjust to non-running calories until I can get a cardio appointment for the unexplained tachycardia, doing okay so far. I did run 1 mile tonight keeping my eye closely on my heart rate but I’m afraid to try anything too stressful. Thanksgiving was okay since it’s just us and my mom who is also diabetic, so she…

If you assume a 1% fatality rate, 777,000 deaths means roughly 78 million Americans have had Covid, which is what, about 23%? If you assume Covid is less fatal than that, it means even more people have had it.

Oops, sorry this was a brain fart! Yes, South Africa.

Re: black squirrels. I remember the first time I saw a black one, I was visiting my aunt in Ontario, and it was sitting right outside my window. I thought I was losing my mind and went and got my cousin, shouting, “There’s a black squirrel outside!” He was like, “And?” All of their squirrels are black. It seems to be…

That was yesterday’s news - today’s says that the new variant has taken over 75% of new South American cases in a week and is well on it’s way to being 100% in short order. Unless there’s been a mistake made, it looks super transmissible. And there are four cases in HK in fully vaxxed people. I think the only reason I’m…

Not dead yet! Haven’t run since I’m unable to get an appointment until the holiday weekend is over but I did a lifting workout and my heart rate stayed normal.

Re: cranberry sauce - I make my own since it usually has sugar added, just put some cranberries in a shallow pan with enough water to cover, on high heat, until they burst. Then squash them with the spatula, add a little lemon juice, vanilla extract, and cinnamon, stir until it turns into jam. For people avoiding carbs…

Yesterday’s run was not good. Heart rate spiked to 209 and I ended up in the ER. Had to walk three miles back to the car after stopping running. Probably related to my lupus flare since that’s what it has done in the past. I have been afraid this would happen ever since I started running but have been lucky so far. In the…

Growing up in the theater I was surrounded by gay people my whole life - my godfather is gay, we used to joke that he was my fairy godfather. His coming out story is super sad. Everyone close to him knew besides his family and he was essentially married to the same man for years, but his mother was extremely homophobic, so…

Curious why you want to avoid the heart valve surgery? My father had it (his heart valves were damaged by malaria) and while open heart surgery is not a picnic he recovered full function and lived another 10 years to die of unrelated causes. Are there downsides I’m not aware of? Yes, hypos are low bg episodes. The thing to…

Lucky break for me! My beloved altra timps were put away dirty after last year’s winter trail series and had dry rot when I got them out this year. They are holding together but it’s a matter of time before they disintegrate. And reviews of the new timps say they changed everything I used to like about them. So I was…

I’m a diabetic so I can’t afford to overindulge even on holidays - my blood glucose doesn’t care what day it is! I used to really stress over holidays because everything my family eats has carbs. I’m starting to get a grip on things though. My plan looks like this: First - I don’t stress too much over calories. I eat at…

Got out late, 5k in my dodgy neighborhood plus a little walk. We tried a different path for our walk but forgot the sidewalk ends over there so ended up walking the shoulder next to the railroad for half a mile with rush hour traffic in our faces. Ugh! I could write a book about why this is a terrible city for runners. On…

I agree. I have my notifications set to notify me of new posts in threads I have posted in, and there’s no way to opt out once you have posted without changing notifications for every thread. So I avoid posting in “fun” type threads which can have dozens of inane, one-word replies a day, because I know that once in, I will…

I wasn’t meaning to be unsympathetic, the differences between countries just amazes me. I have a German friend who heard I lived in Tennessee and wondered why I just didn’t pop over to Nashville - a four hour drive - to hear music all the time. The same friend was amazed that no one uses public transportation here because…

Thanks so much! The calibration seems to have fixed it! I didn’t know that was a thing.

BTW my Strava is still being super weird compared to my husband’s- calling miles extremely fast. And this time I think I know why. Top is my husband’s data with first mile highlighted in blue. Bottom is my data, same first “mile” (actually only .67 of a mile according to his data) highlighted in blue. You can see how mine…

10k on Sunday at the park around the lake - soooo many people. And all of them with no trail etiquette whatsoever. “On your left,” elicits no movement, just people slowly trudging four and five abreast, like herbivores grazing. Sometimes they would stop, all across the path. And turn to look at you, like “What?” as you…
