Whether smoking is a higher risk factor than being fat depends both on how fat you are or how much you smoke. The BBC reported some years ago that smoking is just as bad as being overweight along with the details of a study. The study found that being obese or smoking ten cigarettes a day increased the risk of premature…

Well said! Gen X faced all those same things...worst job market since WWII, stagnating wages which have decreased in real terms to below 1970 levels, high student loan interest rates (8.5%), High tuition, need for a degree for entry level jobs. Plus....just when we were finally able to get on the property market in early…

I liked the personal happiness item because they have linked poor physical health with poor mental health. For example a severely depressed person will not have the energy to even shower or eat much less exercise. This takes a toll on their physical health.

They already do, it's called the "self and family" rate of health insurance.

I live in the UK and the regulations governing organic vs. Conventional are very close. There is not the huge difference that you see in the US. This also means there isn't much of a price difference. In fact, there are several items I buy which are organic AND cheaper than the conventional choice. I don't buy all organic…

Yes I've read the CDC page and UK page you posted before. They both readily admit that they estimate the number of flu deaths and that the CDC doesn't know the actual numbers of deaths from the flu because of blah blah various reasons...so they take the number of actual deaths from flu and add in extra deaths from things…

I posted on this ages ago with lots of references. Basically, I am pro vaccination but I assess each vaccine on its own merits. It is not logical to assume all vaccines are effective or to assume they are all ineffective. The flu vaccine is a shot in the dark. There are over a million flu viruses out there and they…

Actually, the NHS is not tracking deaths from flu. They are estimating them using same process as the CDC. This process is based on simply counting up extra deaths that happen during "flu season" without actually looking at death certificates or anything. There is NO actual tally of flu deaths. They don't even know if the…

I can't speak for other countries, but I know in the UK that healthcare is provided to all legal residents. Non British but EU citizens pay the same NI taxes as British citizens to fund the healthcare system. Non British and non EU citizens also pay the same NI taxes PLUS an NHS surcharge of £500/per visa. The usual visa…

Actually, and this is speaking from a forensic examination I did of 137 skeltised remains, there are "big" bones. Skeletons come in a range of big (robust) to small (gracile). This is a separate measurement from length which you use to calculate height. Generally, you will find more robust bones amongst those who have…

Say if it is true, necessary and kind. If it doesn't meet those three things, don't say anything about a person's appearance.

Me first? When you are the one that suggested this ridiculous thing in the first place. How about I say one trauma for your one equal trauma and we go until the other one runs out. Please note I am ex-military and served in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan so you may want to reconsider before hearing my war stories. But before…

It's true it depends on the nation as different nations have different opinions on human rights and governmental roles. I for one think healthcare is necessary for both life and the pursuit of happiness and by providing the same level to all citizens, it is not unduly impeding the rights of other citizens.

Then why make the offer? Did I call you on a bluff? Lol. Poor you. You are too funny.

Citation needed. Police and fire have been public services since Roman times as best I know..courtesy of the vigiles cohorts. After that, the requirement devolved to the feudal overlords who ran their own governments and services within their lands. Eventually as nation states arose, it devolved to the monarchies. Where it…

Exactly right. The GMO labelling...whether labelling stuff with GMOs or labelling the GMO-free stuff...is not all about safety. Thank you for speaking up on this. Too many people think it's all a bunch of anti-science nuts that want some kind of label to know what's GMO or not GMO.
-
Hmmm I honestly don't think you could "hold your own" because it is clear you have zero understanding of trauma and absolutely no empathy for sufferers of PTSD. "Moments of sadness, grief and fear" indeed!
-
And yet csar is fine with everyone being entitled to the same level of fire or police services.....that's an exception to his 'you cannot demand services' mantra.

I wouldn't call the paleo diet "bunk" so much as an unattainable myth. There was no "one" paleo diet, there were hundreds of thousands of different paleo diets. Every population of humans in each different region had a different diet.
-
You might be surprised, but many advocates for GMO labelling weren't asking for it due to safety concerns but for religious reasons. Their religious leaders view genetic modification as playing God and therefore immoral. So they do not want to support what they view to be an immoral industry. This isn't different from…

No, obesity has been proven to CAUSE deaths. In 2015 four MILLION people died worldwide due to excess body weight. You'd really tout a high school lecture on correlation vs. causation as the authority trumping thousands of scientists and doctors worldwide? The science is very clear that obesity kills. You're deluded if you…

Some people truly are victims though and deserve care and therapy to put the pieces of their lives back together. Even if they tried to just get on with it, they'd end up mentally ill through repressing and failing to deal with their past traumas. I think your opinion is too dismissive of trauma and doesn't recognise the…

Yes! Me too. I'm actually allergic to them too. There's a movement of nurses trying to get "therapy dogs" allowed into hospitals such that each ward would have a resident dog or two. I'm really disgusted and against this.

I agree completely! I also take anti seizure medications that cause weight gain and suffer from physical disabilities but these are obstacles to overcome not fate. I am on 1200 calories a day to maintain weight... it's just my reality with my ability level for activity being so low and the medications. I've never let…

Just an add on. The agricultural revolution was 10,000 years ago, so around 8,000 BC. But even before the agricultural revolution humans were eating grains as part of hunting and gathering. Domestication of animals ( and milk and blood consumption) came before that currently proof as far back as 12,000 years ago. The…

I read a report that said that in 2015 worldwide, it is estimated that four million people died due to excess body weight. In addition, it is expected that this year deaths from obesity caused cancer will exceed deaths from smoking caused cancer. Because excess fat is deadly, I can never accept it as a good or desirable…

You're like the hobbits eating lamas bread.

You can keep healthy diet in recovery..just introduce healthy versions of food as allowed. Exercise, listen to your Dr and your body and ease into it. More is not better..I have been in a cycle of repeat injury/illness relapse due to trying to hurry recovery and it is self sabotage.
