My OBGYN commented at my appointment last January. After years of holding my weight steady I had creeped up into overweight BMI. She asked me what was going on and told me that she uses MFP to monitor her food intake so here I am :)

^ regarding joints. When I get too low with my fat intake my hip joint aches. I up my fat and take fish oil and the joint pain goes away. It is like magic!

My DH is a professor at state U in the MidWest and food insecurity is a huge problem in his college. Fees for in-state students are around 12k (6k a semester for tuition) a semester. There is no "free three meals a day" - there is a $4,500 semester room and board fee. This is due at the beginning of the semester so many…

sweet peppers dipped in hummus and the Yoplait french style yogurt that has popped up in stores recently (so decadent and yummy!!!).

I regain if I don't check in at least weekly and I keep my weight super consistent when I log daily. I was all right through the end of the summer but winter comfort food is my weakness so I'm starting to log again in preparation for the cool weather food.

All people are different and @Akmauser is definitely right that not everyone needs their gallbladder removed. Trust your surgeon but also ask questions. My gall stones led to pancreatitis and I had to have an emergency removal. In my case it was life or death so I am very thankful that removal was an option. However, I…

I did not have have a c-section but carried two large babies (9.5 and almost 9 pounds) for 42 weeks each. I'm three pounds from goal and my tummy is still not pretty - my pooch looks like an upside down heart and I don't love it. But, It is what it is.

This happens to me too! I don't know what it is about swimming but I actually gave up training for a mini triathlon a few years ago because the swimming was causing me to overeat and my weight started to creep up.

seconding (thirding? fourthing?) playing around with your macros. You can see from this thread that people are pretty happy eating very different macros - toxikon and amusedmonkey eat on totally different ends of the scale but both have success :) I eat around 40 carb, 30 protein, 30 fat and find that it keeps me more…

Just posting because I'm dealing with this right now and am having a hard time adjusting to it. I am very sedentary during the weekdays (work from home and must be at my desk/connected to phone comp 9 hours a day) but on nice weekends will hit anywhere from 15k-20k steps a day. I end up feeling starving on weekends and…

That is interesting to me! I grew up in the 80s and almost never ate scratch food. We ate a ton of hamburger helper, hot dogs, french fries and canned soups - the exceptions were pot roast with scalloped potatoes and chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes:) And my parents were actually pretty thin until the early aughts.…

I would like to respectfully disagree with this with a caveat. I'm sure I could eat more cheaply and lose weight - BUT - I would be starving and wouldn't be able to maintain weightloss. To feel both full and healthy, I find that I need to eat "healthier", made from scratch type food which costs more both in time and money.…

I have to admit - I assumed that the study took NEAT into account. Coming at it from a personal place, both of my parents work essentially the same jobs that they worked in the late 70s early 80s with the same amount of desk time and I work a similar job to my father's from 35 years ago so was assuming that the researchers…

Thanks for the link to the Study!

I agree that self reported survey data isn't perfect - but don't studies usually correct for confounders and over/under reporters? I thought I remember reading an interview with Colin Campbel where he talked about having to correct the data in the nurses health study. I also agree that CICO covers most weightloss - but I…

Not retired (only 35 years to go!) but I am married to man who has the metabolism of a hummingbird, loves to eat, and loves to eat as a bonding activity. He would rather me eat with him than lose weight so it has been an interesting 6 months for me. I still eat a little of everything that he eats, but I also fill my plate…

Carbs - keeping them below 40% of my daily intake. If I go much above that I find they set off cravings for me. Otherwise I tend to let the fat and protein fall where they will.

I think it was more about re-establishing gut flora because it might be so inter-related to our whole body. She'd say things like "Make sure he eats lots of fruits and vegetables and yogurt for the next month, you don't want to mess with bad microbes, we're going to be talking about guts a lot in the next 10 years." And…

Great links! We actually had a great but slightly hippy-dippy pediatrician who I think bought into microbiome/autism link. My oldest son had chronic ear infections and she really stressed feeding him healthy gut foods every single time she had to prescribe antibiotics. While this is a tangent from the food/mental health…

There is definitely correlation between certain nutrients and mental health - Vitamin D, Omega 3, and Magnesium are the ones off the top of my head and I think they all relate to anxiety/depression as mentioned above. But who knows if there is causal relationship.…

^ this. I run deficient in D, A and skew iron deficient if I'm not careful so I take those supplements and a B (to help with the iron). The vitamins themselves do nothing to help with weightloss but they make me feel better and when I feel better, more energetic, etc then I'm more likely to be active and not comfort eat.

Some Nordstroms brick-and-mortars also carry smaller sizes as well. I always buy during the annual sale - I usually buy the Natori brand and wear a 32DD and never have a problem finding it in store.

I work from home so I'm a bit of the opposite - I have to really stop myself from going to the kitchen when I'm stressed. But I'm out and about all weekend and while we tend to eat out on weekends, I'm not really hungry and I don't graze because I'm too busy getting stuff done. But yes - home = food for me.

Very interesting! I live in area I think of as incredibly walkable - within 1 mile (with sidewalks) of church, grocery, pharmacy, gym, elementary and middle schools, library, several parks, a half dozen restaurants etc - my address has a score of 65. My old address, in a sketchy city location, had a score of 78 - but I…

5.5 (and a half) and I started at 155. I'm steadily losing on 1490 a day. I lose between .5 and 1 pound a week. I usually eat between 1350 and 1550. I'm very sedentary during the week but never sit down on weekends. I'm having a binge-y week (average 1700 cals a day so far) so we'll see if I'm able to maintain.

@sgfwinters - amen to your post. We eat lots of fruits and veggies at home, white milk and water to drink for the kids, etc. We teach our children about "always/green light" and "sometimes/yellow light" foods. Their daycare feeds them snacks twice a day, which I would be okay with if it was an apple or carrot sticks - but…

plus one-ing all of the quoted. Additionally when my Vit D and Iron levels are low I find I am always hungry. Being exhausted (physically and mentally) and constantly starving is not a good combo for me. Getting my levels to within normal ranges helps me stick to CICO and stay sated from a hunger standpoint. But - don't…

We tried Blue Apron but have kids and the meals weren't a huge hit with them. We did recently start using a meal prep place (that pre-preps so I just need to pick up the food). I use Super Suppers because they let you upgrade to hormone free meats and "better" grains (brown rice, quinoa, etc). I really like it. We are in a…

50 pounds with my first, and I ate super healthfully the whole time. With the second I thought "well if I'm going to gain 50 pounds I may as well eat what I want." and then I gained 60 pounds with that pregnancy (I even tried to right myself about half way through but that damage had been done)- oops. I had big babies - 9…

Am adding in my favorite frittata fixings- thinly sliced purple potatoes, spinach and feta, I also sometimes use beet greens with feta in a frittata (adds beautiful pink color in the eggs:)). I also like to throw frozen green beans, sliced turkey kielbasa and diced potatoes in a slow cooker as a meal.
