In my experience eating low carb messes up your ability to eat carbs. If you are eating ultra low carb all week and then your cheat meal is full of carbs you will gain A LOT of water weight really fast. It’s really weird, but I could gain back 20 lbs in a few weeks after low carb and then eating carbs again. I despise low…

Put in your stats into MFP. Set your weight loss goals to 1 or 1.5 lbs a week. Set your activity level as sedatary and eat back 1/2 your exercise calories. Get a fitness tracker so you really know how many exercise calories you are burning. I bought an Apple Watch after I had lost 45 lbs and I was way over estimating my…

Vanity sizing for men is happening too. My husband has lost about 8 lbs. he’s not overweight, he just wanted to lose some belly and build some muscle. Today he tried on a size 30” shorts to prove he could wear them now. He is always a 32-33. He tried and they fit well and then he told me he swears they were 32”. So we…

What a wonderful son. I need this motivation today. Thank you so much for sharing.

Wow, great job! You look great!!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss! Everyone has plateaus, it will get moving again. I can do everything right and lose 0 to .5 lbs for a week or two when eating at a 600 calorie deficit a day. That’s when a diet break for one meal reallly, really helps to get things going again. . It’s usually every 4-6 weeks, so it’s…

How many pounds did you setup MFP to lose? I’ve lost 61 lbs. If I set my goal to lose more than 1 lb a week I would be starving and exhausted. Even that is too low in calories for me to enjoy life so now I’ve just upped my daily calories by an additional 100 and hope to lose .75 lbs a week. It’s been working. That’s about…

I can enjoy Sweet and Low added to a cup of coffee every morning and sometimes at night. It HELPS my sugar cravings. I like Sweet and Low more than Splenda or Equal.

I guessed low a lot of times. When I got a food scale I got to eat more than my guesses.

I was a kid in the 70s. I was overweight and so were my mom and dad. I have a good picture of the whole family and we were all pretty chubby. So everyone wasn’t skinny in the 70s.

I think pant sizes have gotten bigger, but dresses not so much, which is a little weird. So I’m an 8 pant and 12 top/dress. I went wedding dress shopping 5 years ago for our vow renewal and told the sales person I was a 12/14 dress (that was before I gained all my weight back again) and they said that would be like a 16/18…

Are those US 8 jeans? I’m 5’8” wearing size 8 jeans and I’m not as slim as you. A UK 8 is like a US 4.

I’ve felt the same way. I felt weird or really thin when I’ve lost weight in the past. I was at the top or just above a healthy BMI so I wasn’t too thin. I think I lost weight really fast so my brain never caught up to my body size. Then I gained it all back. This time it took me almost a year to lose 60 lbs and I don’t…

It may not be “vanity” sizing, but designers and manufacturers are having to make sizes larger so they actually fit the majority of the population. If we go back to when a 12 is like an 8 today, how would most people find clothes to wear? The most popular size is now a 12. Would that be like a 16 from the 80s? So what’s a…

Make sure you are logging everything. Be honest with yourself and you will find the problem. Log even a few bites of something here and there. It all adds up and then your deficit is gone. Also some people post they haven’t lost weight and then after asking more questions they reveal they have a cheat day or cheat meal…

I’m 5’8” and only a couple of people noticed when I lost 30 lbs. I’m a yo-yo dieter so I’m always up and down. So I pretty much look the same to people. It sounds like you may be the same. Everyone noticed when I lost 60 lbs. When I tell people how much I’ve lost they don’t believe me. They think it was 20-30 lbs. I show…

One KEY thing to learn about losing and maintaining a healthy weight is it’s not “all or nothing”. So you ate a fast food meal that’s loaded in calories, it doesn’t mean it’s all over. You can stop there. If you get yourself together you can eat normal the rest of the day or even skip dinner because you are stuffed. The…

1 snickers bar is not a cheat day. I can fit that in as dessert on a normal day.

My husband went for a check-up and weighed 1 lb in the overweight BMI range. He left his phone and wallet in his pocket and was fully clothed with pants, shirt and belt when he weighed. So a good 3-4 lbs of stuff. His doctor put a giant check mark on his paperwork that he was overweight. My husband was upset about it and…

I like nighttime eating too. All my weight problems are around the nightly overeating. I now save about 700-800 calories for the evening meal so I can have a nice dinner and a treat. I feel pretty satisfied when I do this. I do stress if I only have 500 calories left, but it’s really enough for dinner, just no treat. So…

I have seen people look frail after losing weight because they did it really fast with really low calories and no weight training. They look deflated because they have lost a lot of muscle with their weight loss. As someone else said, be sure to wear clothes that fit. The oversized clothes can make you look sick.

I was doing it once a week at our gym at work, fully clothed but before eating or drinking. I was too emotional about it to have a scale at home. I finally broke down and bought a scale for home. It’s downstairs away from easy access in the morning, so it’s too inconvenient to weigh every day. So I weigh once or twice a…

So did anyone’s perspective of what a healthy weight looks like change after you lost weight? Now that I’m close to normal weight I’ve noticed women at work being heavier than I thought they were before I lost the weight. Like larger bellies and bigger hips than I noticed them having before. So my perspective on what…

I gained weight with night time overeating. It’s a terrible habit I have. Even after dieting I would still do it once a week, but I logged all the calories. So over time the calories I was over eating became less and less as the weeks went by. It took about 7 months, but I finally stopped doing it. I found the feeling I…

Be careful with eliptical calorie burns. The one I use shows literally double that my Apple Watch shows. So it takes about 33 min to burn 150 calories, but the elliptical shows 300 calories in the same time. That’s a huge difference. The treadmill shows about the same total calories as my Apple Watch.

It annoys me too but the person that said it is on MFP so obviously not doing it on his/her own. Also I see it as a comment to upset people with no good evidence to support their case (aka troll)....

Yes I plan to log forever. I’ve lost and gained 60+ lbs 9 TIMES in my life starting at the age of 15. I’m down about 60 lbs again. Some crazy stuff I’ve done to lose weight too. Like eating every other day, low carb (actually starving on around 500 calories a day because I started hating meat), weight watchers (hated it…

Since you have lost over 10 lbs you need to reset your goals in MFP. It will lower the calories you can eat and still lose weight. I started with a goal of losing 1.5 lbs a week and then stopped losing, so I played around with my goals and changed it and changed it back and it lowered my total calories allowed. That was…

I got the series 3 AW in November. I like it for fitness tracking and for receiving and sending text messages and phone calls and meeting notifications. I also don’t worry that it’s giving me too many active calories. One thing annoying about how the AW syncs activity with MFP is how it gives or doesn’t give you extra…

How much do you want to lose and are you already in a healthy weight range and want to lose vanity pounds? Are you eating your exercise calories back? If you are eating those back, you may be over estimating the calories you burned.
