Welcome. I'm a newbie, too, with a chronic condition. I like the site / app. It's a lot more user friendly than anything I've tried so far. And you can link it to walking / exercise app or fitness trackers, which is really convenient. Good luck to you.

I did WW once and lost weight. I eventually gained it back, and did WW again, without success. I find that the points system is gimmicky and that the main thing it provides is accountability and support (which you can also get here). Everything else is common sense and you can do on your own.
