  • I don't have a phone but I started a new job and was thinking of getting one so I could use Strava... This seems like such a cool thing to do, I love challenges and meaningless internet points.
  • I'm trying to run slower. Ran 5 miles in 50 minutes. I don't have a heart rate monitor so it is hard to tell if I was in my target zone of 145-155 bpm. I feel like I might have been in the low 160s. Hard to say, I felt good and energetic when I was done running though.
  • Rest from running today, I did workout though using a bodyweight fitness routine, pushups, rows, pullups (negatives but still), squats and l-sits. Along with dynamic stretching beforehand and some core workout to warm-up. I'm excited to run tomorrow.
  • @garygse Thank you for the advice and the recommendation I will check out the book. I don't think that will be a problem though because I don't plan at doing all my training at an easy pace (probably 3 easy runs out of 4), since I am currently focusing on the 5K. I also like to run a 5K every week or two weeks just to try…
  • Today was a full rest day. I think I might be addicted to running, I really want to go running. I won't though because my legs need the rest, I'm an overweight guy who runs 5-8KM as his workout, not an athlete who runs 10 miles to recover (yet). Tomorrow I am supposed to hit the gym so I won't be running until Tuesday.
  • Way to go that is awesome.
  • Went for an 8KM, my legs were killing me. Tommorow will be a rest day for sure.
  • Very interesting video on training at max aerobic pace https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n9wxuv0B50
  • Went for an easy 4K last night, I actually wanted to run 7.5 but I was pretty tired. Today I set out to run for a long time but as soon as I started running I found myself wanting to run as hard as I could, so I went for a personal best for my 5K and I did it! I reached a sub 25 minute 5K with 24:04!! I thought my heart…
  • I attained my first running goal, I ran a sub 25 minute 5K! 24:04 to be precise!
  • You might want to look for the June 2017 Running Challenge thread, people are participating in that one now. As for advice, I am but a measly beginner but I have read a lot of articles that speak of doing hill drills to really activate the muscles in the back of your leg, which are incredibly useful for running but don't…
  • Went to a local shoe place, got these after getting filmed running and seeing overpronation : https://runrepeat.com/new-balance-860 Not too expensive since it's last years model, they were 95 CAD before taxes or 70 USD for you Americans. I am looking forward to running with them tonight!
  • I'm in for 100 KM this month, let's do this!
  • First month doing this challenge is over! Went from having trouble even completing a 5K to running it in sub 26 minutes and now near the end of the month running 40+ minutes at 6.5MPH on my last two runs when I could barely run for 10 minutes straight at the start of the month. I think I'm going to workout with the goal of…
  • Ran 7.5 KM today, the longest I have ran since I started working out / dieting 40 or so days ago. The best part was how easy it was, I ran at a slower pace than usual (around 6.5 mph) and I feel like I could have kept on going longer but it's late and I have work tomorrow. I definitely discovered the joy of running longer…
  • https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/the-swimming-blog/2014/jan/02/learning-to-swim-fear-of-swimming Quote from the article : "I have taught people of all ages and from all walks of life. My oldest pupil was an 87-year-old lady who was also blind. She said she had always wanted to learn to swim but had never got round…
  • Well I agree about commenting but having a preference for non-fat people is fine.
  • Tonight I ran 5 KM after fasting the whole day for Ramadan. In the first 5 minutes I told myself I wouldn't make it but after a while I started feeling good and ended up beating my previous PB of ~0:26:00 by 15 seconds! My new record is 0:25:45! Getting closer to my first goal of 25 minutes! I am getting payed on the 31st…
  • Sub 26 minutes 5K! Did it in 0:25:45  Getting closer to my first goal of running a sub 25 minute 5K!
  • Today I ran only 3.75 Km (one lap around my area) because I did 10 minutes of technique drills beforehand. I also beat my personal best for a lap around my area which used to be 19m20s and is now 18m55s :D If I keep that pace for a 5K that would be around 25m15s which is getting close to my first goal of a 25 minute 5K! I…
  • Can anyone comment on my training plan? This is not 100% running oriented but running is a big part of it. It's aimed at 5K races specifically. I based it off various articles I read on the internet and fit it into something I would enjoy doing. I have 6 days planned but in practice I allow myself to train anywhere from…
  • Gif cuts off mid sentence, I'm triggered.
  • So funny story. I used a BMI calculator that uses feet. I took my height in centimeters and asked google to put that in feet. It gave me 5.74 feet so I put 5 feet 7.5 inches in the calculator. I realised however that 5.74 feet is actually 5 feet and almost 9 inches because inches are 12 to a feet and not 10 to a feet,…
  • Ran 5K today. I've only been running for around a month but today I added some dynamic stretching before going out. Didn't really feel a difference but the exercises themselves where fun to do and quite challenging. I felt like I was running well but I wasn't looking at the time at all. When I finished I was full of energy…
  • Anyone have advice on buying shoes? I never bought a good pair of shoes in my life. I'm only getting my pay at the end of the month but I might as well inform myself now.
  • Excel spreadsheets I guess?
  • Just ran a 5KM in ~26 minutes, a personal best for me. I'm going to buy shoes and some kind of timer thingy to help track my times / train when I get my next pay.
  • Was tired after my first day of work but still went to run! Went down another belt notch! Only one notch left before I switch to my smaller belt. :relaxed:
  • Completed that 5K tonight! (last time I had stopped at 4K) Had a full day of work and I still went to run at 10pm. It was 3 celcius outside (in May wtf) which is 37F for you Americans. My ultimate goal is to run a sub 20 minute 5K but my current goal is a 25 minute 5K. I don't have a watch or anything but my approximate…
  • I like ice cold water (and I mean 10 cubes of ice in a bottle ice cold), makes it really tasty in my opinion. A straw is fun, I second that idea.
