I workout anywhere from 7 to 12 times per week. Mostly cardio, NordicTrack ski machine, running, and walking. I also was doing resistance training but I injured my ribs in a fall and had to take it easy on the weights. As my ribs have been feeling a lot better I'm going to get back into that. I don't think strength…

I do not own a fitness tracker and have no intention of ever getting one in the future. To track my exercise I use the free version of Runtastic on my cellphone and I also accept that what it gives me for calories burned is not 100% accurate. I do not eat my exercise calories back.

Okay, thank you for clarifying your statement. When I made the comment about the human body consuming its own heart and you said "Actually, yes, it will." I interpreted that as you claiming the body will, in fact, destroy heart tissue in an effort to protect and/or rebuild other non vital muscle. Just to make sure I've got…

You could give it more time to see if this is just your body adjusting before dropping a few more pounds, and you can always up your calories and see if you start gaining. It's only been three weeks.
-
Jogging and cycling will help burn extra calories, for sure, and that should help use some of that extra fat.
-
Are you doing any cardio?
-
Sort of, however she's claiming the body will take protein (muscle) from the heart, thus weakening the heart, to restore other muscles in the body, and this is clearly not supported by any medical studies I've read. The human body will not weaken vital organs to repair non vital muscles. When a person gets to the point…

5'9" tall and 165 pounds.

I'm interested to see what it reads when I'm in much better shape and go a lot faster. I've noticed Runtastic tends to err on the side of time, so when I go slower and longer it shows a higher caloric burn than when I go faster and quicker. Personally I think I should be burning more calories pushing myself to run faster.…
-
Have you tried tricep dips using a chair?
-
Getting faster, but I think it's mostly because of the hills, there's an elevation gain of around 600 feet. I hope it's that and not that Runtastic is way off on calculating calories burned.
-
How fast do you want to drop the 21 pounds, and have you talked to your doctor about this?
-
That always feels great.
-
I think it's because you are considerably smaller than I am. That and the fitness trackers we're using are most likely not 100% accurate. Why do you think?
-
Walk, if your knee can take it, swim, or bike.
-
How much weight do you need to lose? Are you obese? You can still log your exercise, just don't eat more to offset those calories burned.
-
Why not? According to Runtastic I burn anywhere from 750 to 850 calories running 5 miles.

My intuition tells me to eat pizza, chips, and drink beer, so I need to count and keep track of everything. Perhaps after a year or so of tracking I will be better, but I can't do that at this time. If it works for you that's fantastic.
-
From what I've read it shouldn't make that much of a difference.
-
Nope, you're wrong. The body will not destroy vital organ tissue first. Obese people on a highly restricted diet saw less than 25% loss of muscle, none in vital organs, and people who performed resistance training saw no muscle loss at all. Instead of the body destroying vital tissue to rebuild muscles being worked, it…

Just the responses I expected. Thank you.

Weight training will prevent any major muscle loss while cutting calories.

I have an old NordicTrack ski machine. I've looked at spinning bikes and the high quality models are not cheap, some are in the $2,000 USD range. Perhaps go to some local gyms and see if they have spinning bikes that you can try out to see if you like them. Paying for a one day use at a gym is cheaper than buying a bike…

Muscle gains would be in the muscle groups being worked, in this case the legs.
-
Are you actually saying that the human body will consume its own heart to keep the body fat?
-
I've fasted in the past, the longest I went was a 40 day fast, something my ex was into at the time. Haven't done it in years and really don't have the desire. Try fasting for a day or two and see if it works for you.

I found I had plenty of time to watch TV, eat pizza, chips, and drink beer. I just switched that time to working out, and it's still less time than I spent watching TV.
-
I've done it a couple of times in the past, just cutting back on the snacks and increasing work outs.

The same thing has been happening to me since I started in mid February. I'll see steady drops for up to three weeks and then no changes for a week to ten days, or I'll even tick up a pound. Then my weight starts dropping again. Nothing changes in my diet or exercise, but it still happens. Try to just accept this is how…

I always run outside. There's a five mile loop around a pond that I run pretty near every day and it's hilly on one half, and then fairly level on the other. When I'm not running I use an old NordicTrack ski machine that I bought last year. I prefer my outside runs to the machine. I've run on treadmills in the past, but I…
