I'm sure UA (and their stockholders, to whom they actually do have a responsibility) would gladly accept your funding to pay for this research and the resulting software development costs.

When you say cop out, you're implying that they have a responsibility or duty to do more than they currently do. It's a free tool, and was not created using public funds so there is no responsibility to do anything more than the creator wants it to do. Simply put, they do not owe users a better free tool... they actually…

Where did you read that each individual bite you eat can cause epigenetic/nutrigenomic activity?

I am prone to anxiety or guilt over "missed workouts", so in order to prevent those feelings (because they usually aren't productive or motivating for me), I don't actually plan specific workout days. Instead I make it my goal to have a set number of workouts in a week. That way if I have a migraine on Wednesday, or…

I think it's too early in your journey to let yourself get too discouraged or to feel like you're "doing it wrong". You're just getting started, and you're going to have some missteps, so take this opportunity to practice letting it go and moving on. Just imagine you're taking a roadtrip... if you realized 2 blocks away…
I still don't understand why MFP hasn't taken the common misuse and misunderstanding of their tool and tried to improve it?
1. Because they don't need to. If it didn't work for anyone then it wouldn't still exist all these years later, and at the end of the day it does what UA needs it to do. 2. They do…

Like I said above, if it were the same people asking the same questions over and over it would be different, but it's mostly not and when it is it seems like people here call them on it. A good rule of thumb for online forums is "New users know nothing, including how to use the search function". Literally every forum on…

This is pretty much the way I operate. I usually do tend to over-compensate for a day or two after (or the week before, if I know it's coming like the Disney trip), just out of guilt. Like, I knew that I'd be eating literally a bite or a swallow of everything we bought all day long on our Epcot day, because they're tasting…

I think that the tools are there, but you can lead a horse to water... You're seeing the same questions and such on the forums, but I'm it's mostly different people doing the asking. There are LOTS of people who will not delve into features of a site or an app at all beyond the basics, and if faced with a whole process of…

I'm picky, so I would never weigh single serving meals (because I know there's always something I'm not actually eating, like the onions and all of the gravy attached to them) so a few calories difference isn't going to change anything. I don't weigh eggs, bread (which I rarely eat), or liquids. I don't eat condiments or…

Oh! I sort of know the feeling... it took over 4 years before I was diagnosed with MS when I was not quite 25. They never took me seriously at all until I told my Dr. that my hand had been asleep for 3 days, and if she thought that was all in my head too then she'd better just have me committed because I must be really…

Don't think of a slip up at 2pm as "blowing the day"... think of it as an overage in your weekly balance that you're going to have to make up for somewhere else this week. Is your commute by car, or public transportation? Do you have the option of walking one station/stop further than usual, or parking in the very furthest…

I'm glad you could relate to it... I know I find it hard to just accept "wisdom" if I don't understand the reasons behind it, and knowing what's going on helps me notice when I'm psyching myself out. It helps to know that your brain bio and psychology aren't set in stone, and you can always override it if you only pay…

I think maybe moving your mental goalpost from "looking/feeling the same as I did X years ago" to "looking/feeling better than I do now" might be a good idea. Trying to recreate history is never really a great idea. Focus on the reasons you want to lose 80lbs, and I think you'll see that you don't actually have to look the…

Seeing a therapist can really help with changing the way you evaluate yourself, because it will help you do it in a different way that could yield a much truer result. Seeing a therapist can also help you determine if you've got some chemical imbalance issues going on in your brain. I know lots of people are resistant to…

I used to have a banana or boiled egg before morning workouts (I eat nothing before afternoon or evening workouts), but then I was lazy and didn't get up early enough and got out of the habit, especially after I realized that it really doesn't change how I feel during the workout.

This: and this: are the truest things most of us will read on the internet today. Well said.

Have you talked to a professional? It kind of seems from your first few posts that you might be dealing with some depression, and a depressed mind is really good at beating itself up. I'm not saying you're mentally unbalanced or even really seriously depressed, but it can be really hard to deal with the disappointment you…

I tried Metformin awhile back and it caused some pretty awful gastro distress, plus I'd wake up in the middle of the night absolutely starving. I wound up stopping it because I just couldn't deal with being on the toilet all the time!

Hi! I'm going to join in, if you don't mind. My steps aren't always as high as I'd like (I have a mostly sitting job... I use a standing desk sometimes, but I don't get steps), but then I have a big day once or twice a week. I have a fairly short stride (I'm 5'4", but only have a 28" inseam), so I don't really use steps to…

Maybe your scale is broken. I mean, not changing by an ounce from day to day is pretty weird.

I'm 36, and have PCOS and MS. I asleep have about 80lbs to lose. As I type this I'm sitting in the parking lot at the gym, killing a few minutes before it's tinge to met my trainer... let's keep each other in line, ladies!

I'll second the suggestion of trying a different brand and/or curd-size... it's surprising how much that changes the taste. I also like that curd and liquid (is it actually whey?) are more distinct from one another in large curd. I do not like national brands, as a rule. I like Kroger band the best.

Orechiette pasta with chicken, tomatoes, basil and a little mozz and a side of grilled zucchini.

I usually eat 1200-1500 calories a day, maybe a little less on rest days. My calculated bmr is 1755 and my exercise calories (calculated by my Polar Loop tracker, paired with a chest strap hrm during workouts) are typically between 500-850.

5'4", just starting CW: 238, size 18/1X (2X if the calves are tighter... I have giant calves!)

I don't count general daily walking (for instance, I usually get <6,000 or so steps on a day when I'm not actually trying to get more, or going to the gym) but if I'm walking for an extended period then I'll have more steps than usual and I'll count it. Sometimes step counts lie though, because you won't get as many steps…

Obviously it's just an estimation, and not a hard and fast "this is exactly how much water everyone needs" rule. I think of it as more of a general goalpost that's a good amount for just about everyone... even if you don't need that much or could use a little more, it still isn't going to hurt to drink that much and it's…
