Drink it BLACK you HEATHEN! (just kidding, of course) Honestly my best tip is to find freshly roasted coffee, and if possible, grind it right before brewing! Makes an absolute WORLD of difference to the flavour. I go to local coffee shops rather than chains for the same reason. Although, if forced to go to a Starbucks,…

OCD here and former bulimic (two are v much linked). I have deliberate monthly cheat days to break up the obsessiveness of my logging - similar to the concept of deliberately sabotaging yourself that someone mentioned above.

No *kitten* leave me alone

Sounds perfectly normal to me! I think this might be an English vs. American thing, though. From what I can tell, Americans tend to put mayonnaise on sandwiches rather than butter. At least, in savoury recipes... I don't have a strong memory of childhood, but I do remember that we had Nesquik milkshake powder in the…

Yes, always! Seems like a waste not to.

I got down to about 46 kg...still thought I was fat, so I don't know if you'd call it a success, but I did reach a ridiculous goal. Eating disorders: not even once.

Thank you for the clarification! :)

Could you clarify what you mean by 'move the goalposts'? Do you mean it'll be easier to reach your goals because you'll retain more muscle mass, leading to a more athletic body type after loss? Or something different?

are you sure you haven't been blocked? when I've blocked people in the past, it has told me that they will not know they are blocked - they will still be able to send messages, but the blocker won't receive them. which is a relief, given how many creeps abound on this site :(

Insomniac and PhD student here. I'm currently in this situation, and will be for the next week at least (why am I on MFP?! back to work soon...). I eat at a deficit if I can, but I'm trying not to stress about being at maintenance if that's what I need. I managed to fit in a run the other day, which actually really helped…

I find that robust, soupy meals like lentil soups or bean chilis freeze very well. I just seal in plastic bags so not sure about air exposure. You can defrost overnight in the fridge, yes. I would say that certain green veg like broccoli and asparagus don’t always freeze well (they can sometimes end up mushy).

That’s...not how digestion works

Bit of a strange way to put it, but yes. Lots of microbes, immunology, and epidemiology in the department, amongst many other things...!

PhD student in infection biology here! Been working 70+ hour weeks in the lab until this week, so would appreciate friends who also understand the challenges of cooking/working out when you have little time to sleep, let alone take care of yourself :D

A Gambian friend of mine has mentioned enjoying this: https://www.daringgourmet.com/domoda-gambian-peanut-stew/ I am yet to try it, but I think the recipe looks really tasty! Also, satay/peanut sauce in Thai dishes - like this http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/thai-noodles-with-spicy-peanut-sauce-99918

I think this advice is a bit too extreme, verging on ridiculous. Lots of people find that their diet is more sustainable when they incorporate foods that they enjoy, as long as it works within their calorie goal. It's perfectly reasonable to have 'tempting snacks' in your home, if you find a way of eating them in…

if they provide an important macro, how are they 'empty' calories? I don't really understand this expression -whoops, I just see a tonne of other people asked as well! sorry to dogpile!

I mean can the tone really get much lower here?! hahahah

Sorry, guess it just didn't come across via text!

* Make sure your running form is okay (you can find tips for this online, e.g. don't slouch over, lots of people find heel striking hurts their knees, keep your pelvis in line) * Stretch after your run! I like to stand with my heels on the stairs, toes hanging off, and dip my toes downwards until I feel a stretch in my…

You can get 'No VPL' knickers, though! I've never had an issue...

I feel like it's kind of gross not to wear underwear - nothing 'prude' about it. Discharge is a thing, yo.

QUEST QUEST QUEST QUEST The Scimx ones are also alright I’m not really one for chocolate bars like Mars bars etc, but I DO like protein bars. Fulfils my sugar craving, takes a while to eat and has enough protein to be satiating. I kind of don’t want them to taste like a chocolate bar - they fulfil a different need for me…

You could take a look at low FODMAP vegetables - they are low in certain oligosaccharides that cause bloating in some sensitive folks.

Maybe a stupid question, but are you more active in general? You should have seen my shins when I first started with deads...

Fresh gnocci with pesto, mushroom, and green veg...maybe some pancetta if you have it on hand. Mmmm. I also eat salmon ALL the time - bake in foil with lemon, lil bit of butter, dill, sea salt, pepper. I just have green veg with it but stir-fry or pesto pasta would work, too.

I think this argument boils down to, quite literally, "don't try to run before you can walk".

When I am in weight loss mode, I actually lose my taste for fruit and veg. I eat far more ‘healthily’ in terms of fibre and micros when eating normally. When losing weight, though, all I want is protein, sweet foods, and more protein - I have to force myself to bother with veg, which is not like me at all (normally I love…

Words to live by: pancetta makes everything better. Worth it if you have the spare calories.
