Hoooly crap, only four months? You look incredible - nice work

I think movements like fat acceptance are important to diminish the shame and stigma around being fat - I recall there was a study a while ago that showed that shaming obese individuals did not help their weight loss outcomes (and possibly even worsened them, but I don't recall). Weight loss should be for the sake of…

I always put sunscreen on if I'm leaving the house for any reason! Better safe than sorry, IMO (I do, or rather did, have a relative who had melanoma, though, so perhaps I'm more careful than most). Also, I'd rather be fit and look old than be obese with a young face.

if it's annoying to pee so much, why not drink less?

Yeah you can 100% still lose weight regardless of your macros if you're in a calorie deficit. The macro suggestions people are making are just to help you feel a bit fuller, as sometimes more fat/protein in favour of less carbohydrate will depress your hunger. They can also help with specific athletic goals, if you have…

YMMV, but I find that eating more fat helps me a lot, especially at the end of the day. Fat is associated with satiety so it might help to replace some of the carbohydrates you're eating with fats.

It's really dependent on your own situation. I feel ill often, so right now I'm having trouble sticking to a workout routine because I feel too sick or am in too much pain to work out (even though I enjoy exercise). Calorie control is a 'foolproof' method to lose weight. It just depends if you'd rather be hungry or active…

@amusedmonkey our gym calls those trap bars.

Yeah, but then if you have your meat well-done/chargrilled, you have Trp-P-1 and cancers to worry about...you just can't win ;)

Yeah, it's a completely different ballgame giving probiotics to someone who does have a digestive disorder/coming off antibiotics, who might need their gut repopulated (or 'repoopulated' as so eloquently described in this study, haha) to other individuals for whom those bacteria may not take effect, as they would have to…

Houmous sandwich with baby spinach and julienned carrots.

'if it fits your macros' i.e. eat whatever you want, don't think about 'clean' eating, just pay attention to whether you're hitting your carbs/protein/fats for the day (by extension, you will stay within your calorie goals bc macros make up your calories to varying degrees).

Yeah, I mean, you could corset train for 20 hours a day (with a proper steel-boned corset, of course, not one of the waist trainer things) for weeks if you want a smaller waist, but unless you're a corsetry hobbyist, I don't recommend the discomfort of tightlacing...all it does is impermanently 'squish' your waist, you…

Banana blended with frozen fruit (usually berries) and a bit of almond milk. Iced coffee! Almond milk makes it even less calorific. Make the concentrated stuff in an Aeropress and it's really rich, you don't need much if any sugar.

@AnnPT77 Thank you for the patient and comprehensive reply, it helps a lot

@mom23mangos Thank you, that's helpful, and your photos are really inspiring!

I'm following this thread because I'm similar-ish to OP - which lifting programme did you use, out of interest? And protein/carb/fat ratios? Sorry to bother you :)

Artichoke hearts! I loooove them. Pork pie or mince pie?
-
Thank you, that's helpful!

Baby spinach leaves! Would you rather have tabbouleh or Caesar salad?

Have you got some proper walking socks? They're a bit expensive, but they're worth it for comfort imo.

Beans and legumes are a good, inexpensive protein source although they're also high in carbohydrates - not a problem for everyone, but something to bear in mind. You can make a variety of soups and stews with those. Tofu is really great in stir fries and very versatile. If you eat dairy, Greek yoghurt is probably my…

It's currently on 'lightly active', as I normally walk for at least an hour about 5 times a week as part of my daily activity. I did slightly increase my calorie intake manually, though (from 1340 to 1500), because I think it will be easier to sustain, at least for now. Not sure if that complicates things.

Yum! I think...never tried 'em. Blueberry clafoutis.

7lbs is a pretty scary weight loss for just a week. It would also be remarkably difficult to do. Is it possible you were retaining water before, related to your B12 deficiency, and this allowed you to shed the water weight to reveal your existing weight loss (if that makes sense)? I also agree with another person that the…

No, the reason the science is young is primarily that large-scale NGS approaches are only just coming into their own, so we need human longitudinal studies on massive metagenomic datasets to assess the interactions and functional consequences of huge communities...that takes lots of time and money. NGS is getting cheaper…

The evidence supporting pro- and prebiotics is much weaker than most people think. The functional consequences of differing microbiomes is poorly understood. You can eat more fibre to support the growth of various groups of POTENTIALLY beneficial bacteria, but that's about all, and it depends on you having a diet low in…

That sounds excellent. Might try that this weekend, thanks!

It's better when heavily seasoned, as others have mentioned. If you can put it in a sauce (like in a chili or in stuffed pepper soup) or season it heavily (e.g. to make soboro), you might have a better time with it. But YMMV. If you don't like it, it's not like it's a requirement for weight loss.
