  • The Capitals are doing pretty well, Sara, thanks for asking! They are second in their division, just one point behind the NY Islanders so they are definitely in a good position with over 2 months left in the regular season. The temps are dropping rapidly here, with high winds. Hope our trees stay up! A good day to stay in…
  • Meant to go to the gym today but ended up talking to a friend too long. Ah well - sometimes the human contact is important balm for the soul. Will try again tomorrow. Welcome home, Lana! Gettingmeback, stay safe! Dinner looks delicious. Waves to Sara and all, Tess
  • Looonnnnggg day and week. So glad for the weekend. I’ve fallen behind in reading posts but in catching up, marvel at the creative ways folks here have to get in exercise and healthy eating. Inspiring! Cheers, Tess
  • Suzy, that’s so funny!!!! DC is a little bit like that but since we usually do get 2-3 snowstorms a season, we’re a little bit braver! We got 6” overnight from this storm, but it’s still drifting down so may add another inch or two by nightfall. DH and I spent an hour shoveling this morning - good cardio! Waves to all, Tess
  • Hey Lana - born in Rochester and raised just south of there. We would get double lake effect - off of Erie and Ontario - so I can totally relate to what you and your friend went through while at Fredonia! That is SERIOUS cold! Waves, Tess
  • Tofu Tacos sound delicious, Sara! Let us know if they are as good as they sound. Snow has started! Not a lot yet - just enough to cover the ground and roads so far, and make things pretty. We are hunkered down for the night. I made black bean soup (really more of a stew, since I let it thicken) and threw some diced cooked…
  • Hi all - Happy Weekend! We are supposed to get snow starting this afternoon between 3:00-4:00 and continuing into Sunday. Only supposed to be 4-6” at most, which to this WNY-born girl is nothing. But in DC, it’s a lot of snow. People are out and frantically shopping for supplies as if they are going to be stuck inside for…
  • Morning all - happy Wednesday! I’ve started the year out well with exercise and keeping my calories under goal....until last night. Crappy day at work meant emotional eating at night. At least it was intentional - I knew what I was doing. Ah well, “forgive myself” and move on to today. Congrats to Saltine on the…
  • I think “forgive myself” should be the motto for 2019. Gray Saturday morning in the nation’s capital. Having a lovely slow start to the day and plan to head to the gym for a workout before meeting friends for dinner at a Thai restaurant. Have done well with keeping calories under goal this week, even if I wasn’t…
  • Morning all - I know I’ve been absent for a few months (it wa a rough fall at work). New year, new resolve. I have over 400 messages to catch up on here (yikes!) so may just start fresh. Waves to all who know me and the new folks who have come on since I last checked in. Quick intro - I’m Tess, live in Washington, DC, am…
  • Happy New Year! Hope 2019 is a great year for all - filled with joyful surprises and challenges you can handle. Best, Tess
  • Hi all - Happy Monday. AOTW: No chocolate this week! And stay under calorie goals (bad week last week). Every day is a new beginning.... Tess
  • Went to my last baseball game of the season; since the Nationals are not for n the playoffs, there will be no more baseball in DC after September until next April. LOTS of walking yesterday and today. I also did some concentrated core muscle exercises yesterday. Only 15 minutes worth but my stomach muscles are very sore…
  • Happy Wednesday all! The sun is finally out in DC - YAY!!!! I pre-logged my food this morning including an educated guess on what will be on the lunch menu for a work meeting. That helps me see how much walking/exercise i need to do today. I was also inspired by those of you who pre-plan/prepare upcoming dinners on Sunday,…
  • Hi all - honestly, been in a bad mood for a few days. Just is. Had my first strength training workout in a long time last night, which helped. Still pretty cranky when I got home tonight so went for a long walk. That also helped — well, that and a serving of dark chocolate almond Bark Thins. Sigh... Sometimes life is just…
  • AOTW: after a rough couple of weeks of not feeling well, am determined to get back on the exercise wagon this week. Have a gym session scheduled for tonight and a walk with a friend tomorrow. Happy Monday all! Tess
  • Hi all - it’s been a while since I’ve visited so “welcome” to all the new people and “hi there” to old friends. Crappy week at work (including a demoralizing conversation with a colleague) + days-long sinus headache & fatigue likely due to this humid weather = TGIF. Hoping to be able to sleep tonight - insomnia reared it’s…
  • 8 hours until vacation starts...it’s been a long summer and I need some distance from the office! I’ve been much better this week on my eating, thanks to the inspiration found here. Whether or not it shows up in the scale remains to be seen (WI is only once a week). That doesn’t matter so much - just wanted to feel better…
  • Lana, hugs to you! And wise dog advice from Dawn, as always. Sara, wow - once again you impress with your generosity and skill. How wonderful of you to show you care to people who are going through so much right now. Glad to have Wednesday behind us - craziness at work. Need people to look at each other with humanity…
  • Welcome Lynn - and Maggie! Not only are we Serial Starters, many of us are animal lovers. (Full disclosure- I have two cats but also fawn over dog pictures.) No humidity in the Nation’s Capital at the moment although the forecast says that’s due to change tomorrow. Five days until our vacation in the mountains... Tess, in…
  • Eryn, congrats on the recent 2 lbs and total 8 lbs lost! Thunderous applause for you - and enjoy that spa day. Housecleaning and errands on the agenda for today. Hopefully a walk or some other exercise later. Dinner tonight for one of my friends having a birthday. Discovered that a couple of my favorite local…
  • Better send Leandro over to Dawn with some Mai Tais....Dawn, sorry you’re having such a horrible day at work. Kathryn, what a nightmare - I’m so impressed you were civil despite your justified anger. Good luck with the tests. Massages and drinks with tiny umbrellas by Lana’s pool for everyone. Nothing has calories…
  • That’s the spirit, Lana! Each day is an opportunity to try again. I love that approach. Are you still at home while the roofers are working? We had our roof done a couple years ago and I fled within the first 15 minutes! Waves to all - running back to work. Happy Friday! Tess, in sunny and humid DC
  • Happy Friday all! Just read this MFP Ask the Dietician blog on “How Do I Break a Cycle of Overeating?” The first point especially resonated with me and I thought of several themes emerging on this list - Appreciate Yoir Body. Accept your body, no matter what your weight loss goals are (or aren’t, at the moment). Look at…
  • Good morning all - at a conference today (and yesterday). 2,200 fundraisers packed into a hotel....the sessions are good and am picking up some good tips. I’m trying to track food as best I can (decided to forgo the hotel croissants in favor of a Nature Valley Fruit & Nut bar — NSV!). Also took the advice of several of you…
  • Welcome, lun4web! You’re among understanding friends here. Tracey, I’m an evening exerciser as well. I can’t handle early morning exercise and besides, my gym doesn’t open early enough for me to get there before my bus! And I still managed to lose weight and get more toned with evening workouts! Tess
  • Hi all - weather is warm but not humid, thankfully. Rain is supposed to return this week so am enjoying the sun while it lasts. Sara, excellent ideas for Dawn’s raffle/silent auction. Dawn, you have the #1 trait for a fundraiser - passion for the cause. As you’ve proven with Scentsy, you can sell a product (or cause) you…
  • TGIF! And what a week it has been. I jokingly emailed a friend in another part of the country, asking her if there was a full moon since people had been misbehaving so much at work. She replied that there was - with all the rain we’ve been having, I didn’t know what phase the moon was in! That explains a lot... Tracey, so…
  • Oh Tracey, this is so me! I love ice cream but apparently only between April and October. Once the days get shorter, I no longer want it. Right now, I have two cartons in our freezer (butter pecan and chocolate chip), and I’m still thinking we should “stock up” because there is a BOGO sale at the local grocery store! Dawn,…
  • Hi all - sorry I’ve been offline. Partly due to work and partly due to taking a few days off for vacation (for the baseball All Star Game which was in DC this past week). Wow! I’ve missed a lot of messages; took me awhile to catch up. Welcome to all the new folks (and Leandro, you naughty C-boy!). Those of you who had tons…
