  • It's funny how often people just defult to the "get a food scale and weigh your food" answer, even when it doesn't help answer a question
  • I remember someone asking this same thing about why popped popcorn has less calories than the unpopped kernels in the bag. It seemed to be the consensus that the unpopped calories includes all the butter in the bag, while the popped calories takes into account that a portion of the butter ends up sticking to the inside of…
  • You sync your fitbit to tell MFP how many steps you get per day.
  • She definitely meant the day of the week specifically haha. She specified in her OP that she usually did leg day on Saturdays, but was doing it today (this was yesterday, Thursday) in order to confuse her body. Then I specifically asked if she really thought her body knew which day of the week she worked a particular body…
  • I agree with both of you. It annoyed me that I knew if I tried to argue with the girl further, everyone would go "well look at those legs, clearly she knows what she's talking about" As though she got those results from periodically switching leg day from Saturday to 2 days earlier on Thursday (think about that lol), and…
  • Girl. I'm 27, 5'2 and 122lb and I -wish- my body held fat as aesthetically pleasing as yours. I give my body a break since I've had a kid so my tummy could never look as flat as yours. But I would actually consider you more on the side of "thin" within the normal range. I think you could really benefit from putting effort…
  • The MFP articles are sadly pretty woo-filled most of the time. While I love MFP and happily pay for pro in order to support them for providing "the real deal" with all essential features for free, it just goes to show everyone will spew the woo to make a buck :/
  • I definitely don't know the science behind it, but basically you're muscles are capable of becoming more efficient (i.e. stronger) without actually building mass. With that being said, under the right circumstances it is possible for people completely new to weightlifting to gain mass in a deficit. I started a progressive…
  • This too! The first time I saw someone say that it really hit me. A lot of people want to lose X amount of weight in X amount of time, and think it's a failure if they aren't losing that quickly. Which again I think really contributes to the "I'm either in losing weight mode, or I'm not" mentality. I personally would like…
  • One thing that helped me was to stop thinking of it as "starting over" every time you have a day or a week where you don't hit your goals. Just think, well that was fun, but fun is over and it's time to get back to it. Don't beat yourself up over it either! You didn't RUIN your goals, you just prolonged it a bit; and by…
  • I look forward to seeing you're daily updates, good luck!

  • I make a point to save 200 calories for after dinner indulgences. It differs with the type of wine but an avg for a 5oz glass of red wine is around 120 calories. While you can't totally indulge you can definitely find a way to fit that in!
  • I'm 5'2, started at 127lb and barely noticed a slight difference just looking at myself in the mirror after 5lbs down. However, I took progress pics and there was definitely a noticeable difference compared to my starting pic (I actually posted my pics in the success stories forum if you care to look). Currently down to…
  • I was speaking in more general terms, since I took your original comment to be a general statement as well. The OP is definitely not obese, but I would assume the exercise 5-6 day/week is pretty new, judging by the weight gain and her wanting to get back in shape would indicate she hasn't been. Though she hasn't specified…
  • I don't think that's necessarily true, as I understand it it's still possible to gain muscle while in a deficit for people who are very obese, completely new to strength training, or those who are getting back into strength training after a long hiatus. It would obviously be a much slower gain than eating at maintenance or…
  • I have the alta HR and I love it. Can't speak to how accurate, on the dot the HR monitor is but I can say it definitely knows when my heart rate is increased vs when it's not, so that to me is a better estimate of cals burned than just looking at steps. I also find the TDEE estimates to be fairly accurate, and use that to…
  • I do the same thing, pack breakfast/lunch with 2 snacks. I find that I am often feeling like eating a snack because I'm "bored" or rather, just want something to do while I do X thing (desk job as well), so when I'm about to reach for my lunch box, I ask myself why I want to eat and 100% of the time the answer is "just cuz…
  • A bit OT but what is mybodygallery? is that on here or a different site/app?
  • You look awesome, definitely see a big difference in your face! Keep it up!
  • You should never use the microwave to cook raw chicken, so yes, I would say you cooked them wrong. 30-45 min at 450 sounds like a reasonable amount of time for a normal chicken break, however you described them as "giant" so maybe it wasn't long enough. If I get a particularly large breast, I butterfly it (meaning cutting…
  • I'm just over the age limit haha but would also love some new friends similar to my age/goals! I'm 26, 5'2 and trying to lose those last 10ish lbs
  • I would say to still log the meal, even if inaccurate (better to log something than nothing) and just accept it as a diet break day. I think just ignoring the meal/day like it never happened would make it easier to get into that "eff it" attitude and lead to it becoming and easier rule to break. But by logging it you are…
  • Ohhhhhh...that makes total sense and seems very obvious now haha wasn't thinking about the extra cal you get for exercise. Thanks!
  • I get the "Enlightened" ice creams. They are a complete rip off of Halo Top (or vice versa, not sure which one came out first), but from the flavors I've tried I like it better than Halo Top. The Caramel Oatmeal Cookie is seriously one of the best ice creams I've ever had, even compared to regular ice cream. It's one of…
  • I'm a late night snacker and get a sweet tooth an hour or 2 after dinner. I get the Yasso bars, which are frozen Greek yogurt popsicles. They are only 100 calories and have some protein in there, are surprisingly delishious, and they actually satisfy my hankering for a snack. There are a few different flavors, my favorite…
  • Hm, I haven't actually read the book yet and am just going off what was in the Amazon.com preview. So may be my fault for not getting the whole story. Thanks!
  • Thanks Sardelsa and Eric! I did feel that that amount of protein was a bit high, considering I always make a point to try for a high protein diet, yet rarely get 100g, let along over that. But figured since I would be in a calorie deficit that amount would be necessary to build muscle (side note, I do know of the…
  • Someone on the forum said this and I really liked it, if you were making a cake and accidentally dropped an egg on the floor, would you throw the whole cake away? Or would you call it a loss, clean it up, and continue on what you were doing? When you want to lose weight we are talking about the rest of your life here, and…
  • He definitely didn't mean it as a minimum but I agree, it's just too low for me so I think I'm going to try to stick to around 60g of fat, try my absolutely hardest to stick to his recommended 150g of protein, and just fill the rest with carbs. Thanks for all the advise everyone, I feel much better about making this…
