Here is the thing - depending on the culture of your office, realistically taking 20-45 minutes three "lunch hours" a week is not going to seriously impact your work flow. Indeed, you might find you are MORE productive on the days you exercise. If you're not going to get in trouble or be looked down upon, I really…

I download a podcast I can't wait to listen to. I tell myself that if I'm still hating it after X time (10 minutes if I am feeling run down, 20 minutes if I'm pretty sure it's just a mental barrier) I can quit. I almost never quit. I remind myself how much more energy I have when I'm finished, and how grouchy I get when I…

Try a pair of trail running shoes. They are suited to some wet, intense terrain, but may provide more cushion than a pair of hiking boots. If the lower cut is a problem, get some leg gaiters to help. Try different sock layering options to reduce friction too.

Just for today, I will track everything I eat.

I gained weight leading up to my wedding because wedding planning is busy and stressful at the best of times. Buy a dress in your current size at the time of purchase, with enough time to receive and alter the dress but not too far out from the date. Many dresses can be altered down a few sizes if need be; ask about your…

It's okay to be ridiculously slow (I am!). Find a C25K app that focuses on time intervals, follow it as far as you can, then add minutes until you reach 5k at whatever is a easy, slow pace for you. I'm pretty new to running myself, and what I'm learning is the harder I push, the harder my body rebels. The key to running is…

It seems we moved past the original observation that all runners drink diet Coke, but just wanted to say that must be a regional thing? I'm a runner, and I just see water and/or sports drinks around here. And coffee seems to be the pre-workout of choice, and the post-workout social drinks of choice are coffee or beer.

Procrastinating some phone calls. 23 minutes until I can leave for my run.

I have been struggling for sure. I'm 32, mom of two. I have been very successful, losing just over 2/3rds of my total goal and becoming a runner. I reached kind of stalemate in the summer and have been struggling to bust through - it's all mental, though. Just yesterday I decided to stop overthinking it and just do it.…

One of the biggest reasons I wanted to develop a physically active lifestyle is because my family is like a testament to what happens when you don't make activity a way of life. Heart disease, frailty, osteoporosis, sedentary, arthritis, dementia have all had a part in claiming both quality of life and actual lives of my…

Add me! I'm 32, mom of a 6 year old and 3 year old. I work part-time, and have a military spouse who is often away for long periods. I'm pretty active on my personal profile and my blog on MFP. So far I've lost 43 lbs, worked up to running a fair amount, and am currently digging in to break a plateau (it's a low effort…

I just re-read the original post with my mouse, going word by word and no, she doesn't mention anything about clothing fit. She said she doesn't see a difference in her body. I think it's more a perceived body image thing.

As far as how I felt about my body/form, progress photos were so helpful to me! There were a lot of times I felt there hadn't been any changes for weeks, but the monthly photos I took told a different story. Body measurements in inches can help, too. If you're not feeling much improvement as far as energy levels and…

I don't like that the only thing or person I have to blame when I'm not making progress is myself. Also, that the only thing that can change that is...me. Just gotta keep on the grind.

I weight less than my husband by 15-20lbs (We're the same height) It's the first time in about 7 years that I can say that I weigh less. I guess that's kind of a scale victory but I just realized it yesterday and was agape.

For training for a long distance run like that, I think a watch is worth the investment. Much easier to monitor the data you will want to see than whipping out a phone to check. I liked Strava before I got my watch. You can't make a training plan on their free log-in, but if you pay for extra features I believe you can.

When I am very active with cardio-based activities (like your cycling class, high walking mileage), I need to eat carbs with every meal. If I don't, I am so much hungrier. You mention eating a lot of protein and veg (soups, salads, chicken, eggs) which is good, but likely your body would do well with some quality carb…

That's so great!! I'm hoping to follow in your foot steps this coming spring - man it's hard to stick it out and build that base, so I greatly admire how hard you worked and how well it paid off for you.

Pretty sure you're my new favourite person, and not JUST because you used the hashtag douchelarouche, but it sure helped! Awesome progress too.

THANK YOU for this reminder! My scale hasn't gotten much use all summer - not surprisingly, my body mass scale hasn't moved much all summer, either.

I had the blaze (with HR monitor) for a year or so, and I found it accurate enough to trust the calorie burns it synced into MFP, and lost weight on average as I projected using those values. For me it was a valuable tool that helped me gather a lot of data about my body.

My running goal for the month was to complete my first 10k. Last weekend I did a slow and steady 10k, no walking, in 1:27. This weekend I did a race using 10:1s (hot/humid; morning after a 5k race) in 1:22! So now I'd like to hit 75kms by month's end. I'll be starting some HR focused base training for fall so I'm aiming to…

WOW! That's so inspiring. Thanks for sharing! I bet you'll be high on that achievement for days on end.

I started in February just to see if I COULD get to the point where I could run 5k. I fully expected to hate it and then move on to something else but I loved it. My advice: - Try changing things about your running routine. Try playing with pace (when I found my true 'easy' pace, things really clicked for me! The absence…

When it's a nice day and my spouse is home to stay with the kids while I go for a run. That makes it really easy to get it.

I ran 8 freaking kilometers with ease the other day! Who even am I?!

SW: 219 CW: 178 GW 160 I've had a few moments like this: - When I hit the 20lbs lost and was finally back in onederland. Then getting anywhere in the 100s above 150 started to feel within the realm of possibility. - When I officially got below the lowest weight I had seen since giving birth to my first kid (184lbs) - Now…

Wow, your hard work is very apparent! That's a great NSV.

159 lbs. It's the very upper tip of "healthy" weight for my height, but I have two kids and I felt good last time I weighed that before I had my children. Once I reach 159, I plan to hit maintenance for a while, working on my fitness and seeing how things go. If I feel a need to take more weight off, I can decide that…
