First of all, I am sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine. My question is are you hungry or just not full? There is a difference. Are you drinking enough water with your meals? Try eating "volumetric", meaning eating lower calorie, high volume foods --- veggies, fruit, broth based soups, etc.

I find the best way to preserve muscle while operating in a calorie deficit is to lift weights and keep my protein intake around 100 grams a day. My new workout partner has combat related PTSD and only two weeks into our arrangement has already "ghosted" me. To be fair, they gave me warning that this was an issue in the beginning, and if it happened, it had nothing to with me. Just didn't expect it so soon!
