Probablyvwhat would have been best was to not assume you understood what I meant and then come out with both guns blazing. There was no straw man and their was no false dilemma. And actually I thought I had already explained what I was saying. I dont have time to look through the thread right now, so will have to do it…

I included it to include the greater context in that small section of a much larger artcle. However, focusing on that part you bolded misses the bigger picture. You obviously didn't bother to read it or the article that followed it if you're worried about the age of the first article.

I made no such suggestion, hence you are simply perpetuating the straw man. Which is exactly what I just did with you. Not in the slightest.

Yet, lunaticfish7 is absolutely right. Eat less calories is only part of the equation, an important part, but only a part. And is not just about losing weight. The reason to lose weight is to be healthier. It's a fallacy to present health in such a narrow manner.

I probably shouldn't bring this up, but that's exactly what the guy from FatHead did for a month, and was healthier at the end according to the general tests than he was at the beginning. I have to disagree with that, for the final chapter in these lives have not been written yet. I don't want to be healthy just in the…

Ive read that they probably ate from over 250 different species of plants, so a little bit of this, a little bit of that.

Mayve this was said already, but with each new habit, to focus on its repetition for 30 days before moving to the next seems to be the best way to develop and reinforce them.

Knees i can understand, but elbows?

How do you eat fast food with both hands on the wheel?
-
Driving a stick shift didn't stop me from eating in a car.
-
Washington state just made it illegal to eat and drive for that very reason. The only safe way really is to eat something small like nuts, etc. Easy to handle, and if you drop them, it's no big deal.
-
I don't either. I think all that is needed is what to eat, what to avoid and portion size along with ensuring there is enough activity. I think counting calories just adds a level of unnecessary stress to their lives unless there is a genuine, compelling reason for them to do so.

I was at a Costco and there was a guy there demoing the Vitamix, and we got into a discussion. He was so vegan that any thought of meat or animal products was anathema, and he told me, with this weird gleam in his eye, red meat was going to give me cancer. I felt like I was talking to a fanatic.

Exactly how I view this. Diet helps, but it doesn't replace your medication. Not yet anyway and maybe never.
-
I eat a little chocolate almost every day. :) Have you tried the blackout dark chocolate bar? I eat 2 squares a day usually, it has a rich creamy taste for being 85%.
-
I agree, which is probably why we dont have something yet for akkermancia.

I don t think self managing such a problem is very wise personally and that was the farthest thing from my mind.

The topic of the thread is about diet affecting mental health. I've provided some research regarding schizophrenia and how research shows it can be affected by diet. Never once have I said someone with schizophrenia should treat their illness with diet. The info was presented to address the topic of the thread only. Why…

The title of this thread is "Can diet affect your mental healrh?" The answer is definitely yes, it can indeed affect your mental heslth. Arguments that focus on arguing diet can't cause or cure mental illness are red herrings deflecting off of the fact that diets do affect mental health, for reasons I am having difficulty…

You're entirely entitled to question. I have absolutely no relationship any kind with the author or the book, or anything to do with it. It is listening to people like you that prevented me from reading anything he's written before. It was only on the recommendation of someone else that I even decided to take a look at it.…

If you could care less about his precession, why did you make an issue about It? "Peter Smith, is a Naturopath. Yeah. Totally credible" Methinks he doth protest too much.

The problem is though, cooking, looked at just in a general way doesn't quite cut it. First, you can't destroy or get rid of all the offending lectins by cooking, some resist all methods. For those that can be significantly reduced by cooking, you would need to know which method to use and apply it correctly. Some need…

Thank you, I'll take a look at it later.

Classic tactic is to create strawman arguments to attack. Proper response is not to engage the strawman, but point out the error. If The person really is interested in understanding, then they'll seek further clarification. If not, they won't.
-
Or why not just have something hot to drink, like a cup of chamomile tea, which is also relaxing. The hot tea should help take away any feelings of hunger, and the chamomile should help one fall asleep.

Context seems to be so easily dismissed in these discussions.
-
No, you're just not understanding the use or context, trying to fit it into a box of your own making.

As a medical professional (now retired) I find it practically unbelievable that there is still so much ignorance regarding supplements among those with advanced education that even such a claim in regards to supplements, that somehow, by their "very definition, cannot prove effectivenes," as if this has any bearing on the…

If people sharing ideas and thoughts, that run so counter to your own that they bother you, is "instigating," then the problem doesn't lie with them.
-
Of course not, or at least I would hope not lol. However, that really has nothing to with my original comment.
