In my case, when I started walking with a tight core, meaning pulling my bellybutton to my back and holding it for the duration of the walk, my back stopped hurting when I walked. ***Im not a medical professional, so I agree with the users here advising you to seek a medical professional for your back pain.

Do you pull in your core while walking? My lower back would hurt when I would walk on the treadmill, until I started tightening my core.

At the moment, I would personally do circuit training. I like full body workouts.
