Decent beginner pace is about 2:30 per 100 m interval, including rest. (Front crawl) Fast people on our masters team are 1:35 per 100m. I'm about 2:00 per 100m but it took about 4 years of swimming 3x a week to get to that. I swim about 50 min during week 2-3x and 75 min on Sunday.

Don't give up! The weight will come off eventually. If you are losing inches, then you are making solid progress. Some weeks I stay even, other weeks I lose 3 lbs....and seemingly doing similar things??

5'6" SW 175 lbs CW 161 lbs GW 145 lbs and fit easily into size 8 pants. Currently eat about 1400-1700 calories a day- depends on exercise.

I'm about 15 lbs down and already my hips and knees are feeling better after jogging.
-
We were all wearing fins so pretty much equal on that front.
-
2400 m with fins, mostly 100m intervals on a pace time of 1:45 including rest. My lane mates are normally faster than me, but today they were having trouble keeping up. Maybe losing 15 lbs has helped me??? Has anyone else had the same experience?

When in town -Swim 615 am with a master's club Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun. Gym Tuesday/Thur before work- usually 25 min run, 25 min weights and abs. Sat is day off or slow jog or walk around the neighborhood. I travel about 50% for work. While on road, walking or jog on treadmill in hotel as much as I can.

Burrito joints like qdoba or Chipotle. Skip the tortilla and get a burrito salad with lettuce, meat, beans and salsa.

I agree with you re eating "real food". Keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the tips. I hit the gym this morning, had a very small breakfast and lettuce salad plus modest portion of flank steak for lunch. So in good shape for dinner out and a drink. The conference room is so cold today, I'll probably burn an extra 100 calories shivering

I wouldn't worry about it. The more important thing is to get back on track today and not beat yourself up over it. You should be in this for the long haul, so a week of staying even is ok too!
-
Stayed even this week but happy about that - I had a 6 day business trip with little time for exercise, lots of drinking and nice restaurants. I did a good job avoiding apps, bread and desserts. Goal this week is down 0.5 to 1 lb. I plan to make up for last week and exercise daily for 45 min+. Starting weight- 170 lbs.…

2.5 k this morning

Yes, you can lose weight! I dropped about 20 lbs a few years ago.
-
You could try changing your evening routine and break your snacking habit. Snacking while watching Netflix is an issue for me- I have switched to reading in the living room, going for a walk or looking through these message boards for inspiration.
-
I'll add you! I mostly swim, but I try and hit the gym 2x a week during the winter.
-
Nearly the same as you. 5'6" and 165 lbs. I'll add you.

Cut down on the portion size. No one expects the females to keep up with the guys for drinks or food. The food waste used to bother me, but I figure throwing out half a burger is better than me being overweight.

24x100m. Mix of distance per stroke free and IM. Swam most of the free at 2:05 per 100 including rest which is pretty fast for me.
-
Quick 2.1k today. 50m, 100m, 150m, 200 m x 4 and warm up. Swam in a faster lane today so I am now exhausted....

For skipjack: I suffered from excema on my hands and feet for 15 years or so. Doctors and dermatologists we1re of little help and just prescibed ever stronger steroid cream or similar. After some internet research, it looks like nuts, dairy and wheat are often the root cause of skin issues. I have been skin issues free for…

Current clothes are fitting better or getting too big!

I stick to the shorter distances -mostly 5k due to a history of plantar fasciitis when I started training for a half. So I run 15-30 min 2x/week, often on treadmill. Swim 3-4x/week. I still manage a decent 5 k race time despite lack of training..I think I get plenty of cardio at swimming. I lift weights 2x/week - mostly…

30x100m with fins.

Starting weight 169 lbs Current weight 165 lbs Goal weight 155 lbs by Christmas I am awesome with exercise. Mostly need to avoid unhealthy grazing after dinner. I just picked a bunch of apples, so plan to eat one after dinner if hungry.

Your online counter is close to MFP. I guess that explains why I'm only 15 lbs overweight despite lots of overeating!

Agree re shoes. As soon as I get a twinge in my knee, it means time for new shoes.

How often are you running? To put up a decent time under 30 minutes, you probably need 4-6 months of 4 runs/week of 4 to 7 k. Intervals are a good idea. You could start with 2 min hard running, 1-2 min walk for 30 minutes once a week. The goal on the fast run part is race pace for a 30 min 5k. You could also add in a tempo…

I swim 3-4 times a week with a masters team. Average 2.5 k and 1.25 hrs a session. We have a few very overweight long-term regulars in our club who are decent swimmers...so it seems as though calorie reduction is critical to weight loss despite all that swimming. The people with big shoulder muscles and six packs tend to…
