  • Youth is on your side and you need calories to keep up with your busy life and your exercise. What did MFP calculate as your goal? Stick to it and you will lose weight. 1200 calories is way too low for someone your age (and therefore metabolism). Unfortunately when you become my age your BMR drops below 1200 and therefore…
  • I've played around baking with both almond and coconut flours when I was experimenting with low carb. I found a few recipes that were tasty and reasonable with calories. Coconut makes a very soft dough so cookies tend to fall apart. I remember people liked the almond flour cookies and almond flour blackberry cobbler. I…
  • I'm home now, so I start my meal planning the afternoon of. Pick a meat/poultry/fish to thaw, decide on a carb side dish, decide on a vegetable or salad, and I'm ready to go. Only time I have to think early is if I use the crockpot. I usually buy what is on sale when I go grocery shopping, so that kind of makes the…
  • My calories are set to 1200 and about 1.5 lbs. pounds loss per week. I'm fairly sedentary and usually don't eat back too many of my exercise calories (200-300/day) so I'm able to lose 1.5-2 lbs. a week fairly consistently. I am pretty fastidious on my logging and usually keep within my allotted 1200 calories. Remember you…
  • How many pounds a week are you set up to lose? Are you eating back your exercise calories or subtracting them from your calories? It is frustrating when you swear you are doing everything right and the pounds just don't seem to move fast enough. And yes scales can be frustrating. Mine jumps around so much that I have to…
  • Why don't you leave your numbers where they are and slowly start eating back the calories you earn during exercise? Just a couple hundred calories rich in protein each day for a week should show you if you really need the calories or not. Personally I don't think it is healthy to workout that hard and not replenish your…
  • Last weekend I went to a party at Shakey's, so knowing it would be somewhat challenging I logged 2 pieces of pizza ahead of time. Then after I got there my kids talked me into ordering a pitcher of beer, and not wanting it to go to waste I drank 3 glasses. Then the food showed up and there was so much more than pizza that…
  • Of course theoretically the calories you earn exercising need to be replaced for more energy. However, I don't usually eat back my exercise calories (unless I'm wanting a dessert or glass of wine on top of my daily calories). The reason for this is that because of my senior age, I have a low BMR and being sedentary more…
  • It doesn't have to be torture, in fact it can become fun. It does work and once you start seeing those pounds coming off, logging becomes almost addictive in itself. All day long I watch my numbers and try to purposely choose foods that will get me as close to my goals as possible. I slowly add exercise starting with very…
  • I would recheck the setting for activity level. With the stats you posted, your BMR is 2028. If you chose moderate activity level that would be 2028*1.55=3143-1000 calories to lose 2 lbs/week or 2143 calories (which is close to what you are seeing). That activity level may be higher than you want it and could be misleading…
  • Edema is my guess too. Do you feel it in your feet and ankles? Did your doctor put you on a diuretic to lose water? I can gain or lose 3 pounds overnight with my water fluctuations and high BP. It makes it hard to really know when I'm losing or gaining.
  • Curiosity....After someone loses that much weight their BMR drops and therefore neat burn drops significantly (@ 600 cals I think). Does MFP calculate that in and adjust the BMR and lower the calorie intake automatically? Otherwise, should we be adjusting it ourselves every 30 or 40 lbs?
  • Hi, I'm Donna in California, am 63 years old, 5'6, and 195 lbs. I'm single and live with my Mom along with my son, his wife and kids. I retired from hospital work a few years ago....which is when my weight really started climbing. I just started dieting again this week after losing 30 lbs. two years ago, and slowing…
  • Last night we had a birthday party at Shakey's and I really slipped, even though I had "pre-logged" what I was going to eat. Once we got there and all the food and beer around, I just fell off both the food and alcohol wagon to the tune of about 500 calories! Today I'm back on track and carefully watching every bite plus I…
  • I'm starting off (again) at 1200 calories which is what MFP allows me with a sedentary setting. Most of the time I'm pretty sedentary.....over 60, retired, not much exercise and I like seeing quick results in the beginning which motivates me. It is a bit hard to stick to 1200 cals, so I use the award system. If I want to…
  • I also like the lemon and pepper cod filets that Costco sells and they are only 150 cals, quick to fix, and go great with a salad for lunch (or dinner).
  • I'm a second-time-arounder too. First try 2 years ago I lost 30 of my 50 lb. goal. I hit a plateau, then I got stressed and quit logging, then quit exercising, eventually I got depressed and went back to my old habit of over snacking. It took quite awhile to put the weight back on, but I did. Now I'm where I started…
  • I like to have a piece of protein and a salad of some kind with lots of low calorie vegetables and some dressing. Today I had a Tyson chicken strip and coleslaw with cabbage, celery, carrots, a sprinkling of cranberries which added up to 344. I used regular mayo, vinegar, horseradish and a drop of Stevia for a dressing,…
  • Good afternoon, I just joined this week and am trying to get organized. I used a similar site previously but a few things are slightly different. Most of the time I'm pretty sedentary, but twice a week I babysit two of my grandchildren....an infant and a 3 year old, and sometimes a 2 and 4 year old as well. They keep me…
  • My favorite substitute is unsweetened cashew which has a very mild flavor and lowest in calories, 25 per serving. I also use it to cook, Almond is good too.
