I started so I would be thinner for the cruise I'm taking with my granddaughter next month. So far down 35 lbs and hoping for another big 10 off....but at least I look and feel better than when I started. I want to find a new goal now....maybe another trip!

Hello, I was just wondering how you are doing? I'm 69 and back here to lose weight again and hopefully this time keep it off. I'm assumming you used the tool to calculate your calories. It does get tough because every year the number drops as we get older and also slow down, and of course it is based individual body size.…

I am on my third weight loss journey here at MFP. As usual, I lost 30 lbs relatively easy over 2 minths on a 1300 calorie plan for my age (69) and the slightly active category I chose, along with daily yoga exercise and physical therapy. Then I plateaued for about a monrh as I always seem to do. I finally decided to switch…

I've been struggling trying to find my happy number as well. I have my calories set at lightly active which gives me 1310 per day, and then add my 2-3 yoga workouts on top of that which gives me another 150-200. I'm trying to keep my calorie intake around 1400, therefore only using half of the exercise calories. I'm a…

A simple blood test will tell you if you are anemic due to lack of B12 or folate (or more likely iron). If not it is nothing more than a placebo. B12 does not supply energy but is used to treat a disease called pernicious anemia which usually is caused by lack of something called intrinsic factor which prevents the…

Eat a balanced diet choosing a variety of foods from each of the food groups. Start with the macros provided by MFP and see how you do. Each macro has a purpose in the diet and eating a balanced diet ensures that you will get enough of each and the correct amount of vitamins, mineral, and fiber as well.

So ridiculous. It is amazing what people can sell. Blood type is nothing more than a simple molecule (antigen) or lack of on the surface of a blood cell. What on earth does that have to do with what you eat?

Although I let MFP do the math and calculate my daily calories, I found this chart very helpful in understanding it all in the beginning. https://us.v-cdn.net/5021879/uploads/editor/76/8kn2ubmrqx6s.jpg

USDA...dept of agricultural sets guidelines Here is a nice reference table by sex/age http://www.nationalacademies.org/hmd/~/media/Files/Activity%20Files/Nutrition/DRI-Tables/8_Macronutrient%20Summary.pdf?la=en

I have nothing against them, but never have had the flu and haven't even had a cold in probably 20 years so I don't bother getting one. Maybe someday I'll sing a different tune.

I'm a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist, and until multiple, controlled studies have been performed these are not facts. Do some Internet research and find the studies if they exist.

My condolences to you for the loss of your son. As a mom, it is hard to even imagine a loss like that. I went through some stress with my son a couple years ago, and that was enough to mess up my good diet intentions. Now I'm back trying again. I lost my Mom last week and finding it real hard to get through the week and…

I think you might be eating at maintenance, especially if you are less active than entered. The BMR calculator on this site says your BMR is 1320, which sounds more accurate.

Obviously we are all different in what works for us. For me I like to eat breakfast and with only 1200 calories a day I only get about 250-300 each for breakfast and lunch since I save some for snacks and eat a slightly larger dinner. For breakfast I like a variety of breakfast foods and mix them up. A large 2 egg omelet…

How do you plan on measuring BF? I'd start with weight and body measurements which are easy to take, and then if you want add a measurement for body weight, choose a method/calculation you plan on using and check it maybe once a month for another indicator. However, when you start losing fat the scale will drop.

I like to keep my weekly numbers looking good. When I have a high day, which is rare and usually a special occasion, I even it out at least some the next day by eating lower calorie vegetables and low fat protein meals and reduce snacking. Plus I exercise and don't eat back those calories. I don't even notice the…

Haved you actually looked at what the free MFP offers both on web and app? I'm not sure why you would need or want something else. MFP will calculate your calories based on BMR and NEAT and then gives you a running total of all your macros, which you can personalize, along with your daily calories. It has a large database…

Good to you for making so many healthy changes. I slowly have changed my food habits over years replacing ones like you list with healthier choices. I still eat plenty of carbs although my numbers have naturally dropped some since I no longer eat refined sugar and little white starch. I primarily eat foods I like, try to…

Be sure to eat back at least some of your exercise calories. Some people rely on their numbers off fitbit and eat them all back and others go for half (lots of threads on that), but looks like you didn't eat any of them. That is way too big of a deficit. Your deficit is built in the calculation for calories all ready and…

Don't get too worried about one day, but you can't do it everyday. You will bounce back if you keep to your numbers on a regular basis. I went over about 400 calories, which I expected, and so ate wholesome, light foods yesterday, added some exercise, and logged in under 400 calories which is something I rarely do. I was…

Let MFP calculate. Those numbers do not like right. Assuming the low BMR is correct since age isn't stated, 1348 x 1.25=1685. Therefore at a pound a week, 500 deficit, would put her below 1200 calories, therefore MFP will drop the deficit another 15 calories. Eating calories below BMR is sometimes a fact of weightloss life…

Are you still logging your calories? I quit once during a really stressful time and ended up putting 30 lbs. back on which I'm now trying to lose again. So my advice is don't quit logging even in maintenance, and find healthy foods that you can make work for you during this stressful period. I do a lot of stir-fries of…

I looked at your diary today and see you changed your headings to match the macros. I think you may be making it more difficult on yourself for several reasons. First most foods contain two of more of the macros so you'll be guessing where to log it, secondly using the headings as proposed by logging meals as they occur…

Coming from a Chinese restaurant hard to know what it was marinated/grilled in. Could be garlic, ginger, hot sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil...I use all kinds of things to marinate in before I grill or actually stir fry shrimp in my wok. I used to use butter and garlic a lot, but now usually just season the wok and use a…

Working in a hospital all my life, I have a hard time supporting something as unnatural as purposely putting oneself in a state of ketosis. I'll feed my brain glucose not ketones. Besides I found it very hard to reduce my carbs low enough to even stay on a very low carb diet for long, and the high fats raised my already…

Don't get too discouraged yet. All those carbs you were eating may still be causing you to hang on to some water. The scale can be stubborn sometimes. I'm a little confused about your numbers. Where are you coming up with the 1500-1800 calories number you are using? If you are truly eating half what you used to you should…

As others said there is no way to target stomach fat, but you might want to add in some "core muscle" exercises like Pilates or yoga to strengthen the muscles underneath the fat. It will help tighten the area up and reduces stress on the back muscles. I've had to have a lot of abdominal surgeries due to medical problems…

I'm not a dietician, but I am a lifelong medical biologist and chemist, and I agree with the above comments that "cleansing" diets are not necessary, and possibly not healthy depending on what macros you are getting and what unregulated supplements are included. Fruits and vegetables are great as long as you get plenty of…

I consider any food that offers nutrition, with some vitamins, minerals, and fiber a healthy food as long as it fits in my calorie budget for the day. Refined sugar is pretty much the only thing I don't eat, and I cut back on white starches. I try to watch my fats somewhat as they are my weakness and add calories…

[quote/ It's okay. You made me realise it will take 6 months o.o Oh my...I changed it to 0.5kg a week. Let's see if I can handle 1230 cals a day. [/quote] Do you add exercise calories to your 1200 calories per day? I too am on 1200 calories which sustains my 3 balanced meals but need the extra couple hundred or so calories…
