I love fat, and I love vegetables but they need fat. I used to drench all my vegetables in tablespoons of butter but now limit it due to the calories, although I refuse to give it up completely. Sometimes I mix lemon with butter so I have more of it to pour on and that is pretty good especially over green beans. I have…

Maybe "fat ought not to be villified", but 30 g, 9 g saturated in a single serving is excessive for anyone in my book.

Are those numbers from the product label? They must reflect the mashed potatoes and butter as well because it has carbs plus the fat is very high for chicken with or without skin. Sorry but removing the skin does not remove all the fat. When I boil a chicken for soup I remove the skin and still get a thick layer of fat on…

I cheat. If I'm low at the end of the day I throw a scoop of Fiber Dx (50 cals, 11 g fiber, 7 g protein) in a drink. Not the best way, but with 1200 cals it is sometimes hard to hit all the numbers.

When you were dieting were you actually using MFP or on some other kind of diet/s? How much of a deficit were you on? You may want to start at 250 calorie deficit/day and work up as your body adjusts. Also, don't make dramatic changes in your foods all at once. A healthy diet should have a balance of good, wholesome foods…

I've found that the macros are not always that accurate in relationship to the total calories (math does not add up correctly). Supposedly the ones with green checkmarks are verified, so I try and chose those when available. Anyway, total calories is the number you should focus on and use the macros as a guide just to…

I'm 63 and have been on MFP for 2 months and have lost 15 lbs. Two years ago I lost 30 lbs. on a similar site and put it back slowly after I quit logging and exercising. The hardest thing for me was realizing that with my age and sometimes sedentary activity level I will never be able to eat more than about 1500 calories…

Keto is a diet where you virtually limit all carbs except around 20 grams of vegetables/low sugar fruit which puts your body into a ketogenic state where ketones are produced by fat burning and used to supply your brain instead of the normal glucose. It is popular now and apparently works well for some, but personally I…

Although my fibromyalgia has been under control for many years, I give yoga the credit for getting by body into shape without a lot of pain at my worst time. As for meals I cook most meals in well under 30 minutes. You can put a variety of meats, potatos, vegetables together in a crock pot in the AM or pressure cooker just…

I quit nightly wine drinking when I started my diet change and don't miss it a bit now. I do drink a couple glasses of wine if I am in social situations, but skip the beer as the ones I like are very high in calories. My daughter brought me back a bottle of tequila when she was in Mexico and I did enjoy making a lime…

I try to stay under the 45 g listed in my diary, which although not an official number is close to what the government/health standards recommend for a 2000 calorie diet. I eat lots of fruit and vegetables and rarely go over that number. Sugar is the same whether it comes from a piece of fruit, candy bar, or sugar bowl but…

Its hard when you are on the lower end of the calorie scale. Maybe you are expecting too much too soon? According to your figures you only have a 400 calorie deficit per day so you would be losing about 4/5 of a pound per week. Water gain can mask that easily. Any inaccurate logging can put you near or at maintenance…

I think I have one like you are referring to. It is round and looks like the picture in the Amazon link above. I like it for one or two people. It has water that goes around the rim and grills small amounts of food nicely on the stove (I have a ceramic top). Some oil does leak into the water and spilling it can be a mess,…

Oops. Realized you already are a friend.

Hi and welcome. I'm a 63 year old female who started at a little over 200 pounds 2 months ago and have lost 15 lbs. with very minimal exercise (MFP does not require exercise to lose weight as it is based on a calorie deficit with normal activity). I have a bad back, neck, and abdominal muscle weakness due to multiple…

1. I'm confused what you are saying about your calorie goal? I don't think changing your end weight goal makes any difference in your daily calorie allotment. What does make a difference is what your current weight is (calories drop as your weight drops and I hear birthdays drop calories as well because you get older).…

Without giving any information other than being a male it is hard to say, but most younger, average size men eat in the 2000+ range. 1500 is the bare minimum for a man and even low for many women. Your calorie determination is based on your BMR (sex, age, height, and weight) times your activity level less your chosen…

I think I have a new favorite coffee drink under 40 calories. I added a few grams of sugar-free butterscotch pudding to my usual cashew milk, instant coffee, & cocoa drink and it thickened and sweetened it plus gave it that butterscotch taste. I had to mix it with a whisk although next time I might use my bullet.

For me peanut butter is a rare treat. More than a tablespoon puts me over my budget no matter what meal/snack I eat it at. Think I'm going to have a peanut butter and banana sandwich for lunch today. Yum! I'd never heard of peanut butter flour but I'm curious.

Actually your numbers are not just based on weight. It is based on your BMR (age, height, & weight), and your individual activity level. You choose the number of pounds you want to lose. People who have a lot to lose usually start at 2 lbs per week, moderate amount 1 lb per week, and just a few pounds 0.5 lb per week. I…

I prefer cashew milk which is creamier than almond milk and 25 calories a cup. I make low cal drinks adding coffee, cocoa powder, cinnamon, vanilla, and stevia. I squirt a little whipped cream on top when I'm feeling decadent. For under 50 calories I get my fix.

I'm hungry in the mornings also and sometimes have lunch before noon after eating breakfast at 8:00. If you are a morning grazer then work with it. Stick to low calorie foods so that you can eat more volume. Be careful of additives like nuts that are good, but for me not that filling. I only add 1/4 cup of nuts and super…

Everybody is an individual. That diet sounds like a 2 week failure to me. Forget shakes and bars and eat real food. Let MFP determine your calorie budget and start logging your foods. Go for healthy eating and stay within your deficit and you will eventually lose as much as you decide to.

Every time you go to the store vow to buy a vegetable that you've never tried before. We love stir fry of any kind (cabbage, Napa cabbage, Bok choy, bean sprouts, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms), sautéed kale or other green, grilled zucchini or Japanese eggplant, asparagus especially wrapped in bacon, cauliflower or broccoli…

What's overwhelming to you? I'm starting month 3 and feel pretty good about it all.

I pre-log at least a meal in advance so I know if I have to make any adjustments. I then go back and change amounts if necessary. I log snacks as I go and track both afternoon and evening snacks separately since they are trouble areas for me.

Welcome. I'm a type II diabetic and eat quite healthy (whole foods mostly-minimal processed foods). I do not follow a low carb diet per se, but aim for about 40% carbs and always stay within my 45 g sugar goal. I do like some sweets so use Stevia and eat other sugar-free Sucrolose desserts and drinks. My diary is open to…

You don't have to go to a gym especially if you have an aversion to it. That is only one approach. There are many ways to increase activity and do exercise even at home. MFP is based on calorie deficit through diet and therefore you can lose weight without doing any exercise, although I think most people find it helps to…

I didn't have a hysterectomy, but have had several pelvic/abdominal surgeries in the past 15 years that have left me with very little abdominal muscle strength. I do yoga or Pilates a few times a week to try and strengthen core muscles. They are stronger than they used to be. It has also helped my back which ended up…

Have you calculated out how many calories you are budgeted with per day? Being short means not being able to eat the amounts of food you see others eating. Even meats and vegetables can add up quickly especially when you include the sauces that Asian restaurants usually use. Find a way to figure out exactly what your meals…
