Had a chance today to listen to an hour conversation on NPR today about drinking and what is considered norm versus too much. Quite interesting.

Thanks.. Updated.. I do everything at home, though, lately I've been working with a one-on-one Pilates instructor who is trained and certified in the Classical tradition. That has been a huge benefit. I'm a Pilates nut. I don't do "heavy" lifting, but what I do has paid off in spades (at least for me). Serious lifters…

50's here as well and my mind has shifted to what is sustainable long term. As you say, pounding stuff out may not work out so well. I've moved to yoga, weights and pilates and it has worked well. If you are thinking pilates, I highly recommend it.

Give em hell!

That's awesome that you are improving moderation! That in and of itself is a big victory. Like yourself, I don't generally equate alcohol with weight gain. I'm very active as well and I think that provides a calorie "cushion". I think I consumed much more before I began losing and when I cut way back, I think it became a…

Wow.. so many people have joined in. Interesting to see / know what portion is working towards more "sustainable" moderation versus abstaining completely. Also would be interesting to see what % of people are in the process of losing weight versus maintaining and if they are working towards abstaining or sustainable…

Hey all.. Just stumbled on this group. I'm a like-minded lush that moderates (or tires to) beer consumption. I did while I lost and I still do while in maintenance (2 years). Besides moderating.. I enjoy weightlifting, running, Pilates and some light yoga.

Wishing all of those that are trying to abstain from "Friday" drinks -a huge success!!
-
Went to a new brewery last night with a friend. Consumed my two drinks for this week, which means none again until next Friday.

Clear mind for sure… and within about 4 days I feel like I’ve shed the water weight –which feels equally amazing. Best wishes on the home gym! I love mine… I am a clarinetist also (or at least I try)… I wouldn’t say “too much”, but a definite noticeable change for the positive.

1/2 = none 1/3 = none For those that tend to have a drink not too long before bed - not to the point of buzzed or drunk - perhaps one or two.. Do you notice a much clearer mind when you wake up? Talking about a clearer mind. Again, not referring to a hangover - that's totally different.

What the heck.. I'm in for this month... Goal is to reduce to 2 beers total between Friday and Saturday.
-
I just don't get the "why"... WTF is the point???
-
I’ve lurked in this topic thread beginning last month but haven’t posted, until now. I find this an inspiring thread. Many personal points shared and no one getting slammed…. Refreshing… I’ve lost 50 lbs and have pretty much maintained that and did it mostly from moderation, but can tell you without a doubt… alcohol played…

I also think a mix of yoga and pilates is the way to go. As Joseph Pilates states: “If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. IF it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.”

It's been critical for me. It's easy to go through the motions and not do them correctly which does not yield the benefits.

Not free.. but a great resource... https://www.pilatesanytime.com/

All depends on the individual. Wife refuses to work out unless it's in a gym. I workout at home, unless I'm with a PT. Whatever works.

Various ways users express they are seeking motivation/motivating friends. In my opinion, someone may inspire but being motivated is personal responsibility. “I got this” or “we got this”. Annoys me.
-
Very similar situation with me as well. Helped reduce the dosage significantly... still need them.
-
Wowzer! Congrats!!

Try them all out over time. Also, what you prefer today may change in several weeks or months. Sometimes one thing leads to another. Just try what seems of interest and don't feel bad about not liking any of them and wanting to take things outside.

Once I began lifting and other activities not related cardio and felt like I was making even greater gains, I backed off on cardio a lot. I still do some, but not nearly as much.

Trying to play a role in aging well instead of the alternative.

I totally agree - yoga and pilates can be important elements in our life as we age.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNhUsA5wOGI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RKyaDmzsnw

Lol.... No.. I just seemed to have attracted some crazies here.

A very eerily similar thing happened to me here as well.. I no longer accept friends as a result.
